Due to rain I only got to the 850 today. The front pads actually looked alright;

There was a wee bit of pad stuff broke off one so decided to change then anyway. Caliper sliders and boots were all intact but everything's a bit crusty looking so will keep an eye on it. Set of rears to do as well so we'll see.

Whilst doing the offside I found this;

Quite impressed as it wasn't clonky or anything. ECP only had the one in stock and by the time I'd gone to fetch it the light had gone so that's tomorrow's job.

Not sure if a full on grump but I feel slightly bad, coming to worn this morning, had a conference call at 10,and would just make it. Came To the m40 and 2 cars had smashed into each other on the slip road, one in the middle of the road. I stopped and put my hazards on, as a car came from the opposite way and drove around it all.

I looked around and everyone seemed OK, there was a kid with them but he was say on the crash barrier ok his Gameboy, 3 other cars had stopped and were walking over to see if everyone was OK (hadn't long happened)...

I carefully drove around it all and booted it off up the sliproad. If there had been no other cars there I'd have of course stopped, but felt I'd just be pointless since others were there, and I didn't want to be late for work.

Was that bad of me? I don't think so, but I did worry about it for about 10 minutes.

Try one - you might like it, or you might not. I would have thought they would be likely appeal to someone who likes Rovers. There are similarities between the two car's emphases.

Cheers, I'd love to try one, but that's easier said than done. They don't come my way. When I don't have the spare cash, there's loads of 'em, when I do, they are nowhere to be seen. And this has been happening for ages, so now I'm not interested. Besides, I've got more important stuff and ongoing difficulties to worry about.

The Xantia failed its MOT today... on ONE thing.

A leak from the fuel filter housing. I know precisely why it's leaking, too. I replaced the fuel filter a few months back, and couldn't get the lid quite all the way back on. I didn't think it was a problem at the time, it's not like it was pissing all over the place, and the car still runs fine.

Now the lid is in a stupid state where it's not on properly and won't come off easily. Of course it's not threaded, but it uses a springy metal o-ring and lugs instead. Stupid bastard of a thing. Oh, and it's plastic, and has a hex bit on top to put a socket on. Guess what happens when you put a socket on it. It slips and rounds off the corners. I distinctly remember not using a socket the first time round.

I finish work at 3 tomorrow, so I'll have a couple of hours of daylight to look at it. Handily, Halfords autocentre say they're open this Sunday (for the first time) so they can't take bookings on the computer system, but if I ring them I can drop past and they can check it. It looks like there shall be 4 of us going to Errol in the BMW 316 on Saturday though.

We had a spate of those filter types where the new seal was too big to fit properly.

I always took the whole housing off to change them as if you slipped it was rather too easy to snap one of the plastic pipes off of the lid.

Nothing you could add to the situation. Basically the French first responder law is quite good. If you're first on the scene you must stop and render what help you can. Be that a fire extinguisher, first aid kit etc.

That was my reasoning. I'd have got out, asked if everything was OK, been told it was, shrugged and got back in the car. Was a 2 people tried for the same bit of road job with an mx5 nd golf at fairly low speed so looked awful but probably wasn't. No airbags deployed that I could see etc

I'd've driven off. I've stopped where I've either thought myself a vital witness to what happened (twat on a motorbike got taken off by a car that couldn't possibly have seen him), or because I saw what happened and was the first person to stop and call the ambulance (twat on a motorbike failed to make a corner).

I have seen car collisions as well, to be fair (twat in a Freelander smashed into the central reservation of the A1139 in Peterborough, then swerved off the side of the road - turns out he was the biggest twat of the lot as he was pissed). I called the Police, then wondered if they'd need my assistance. Waited around for ages, watched one copper needlessly try reversing the Freelander out of a bush (with three wheels left on it), then got told to get on my way as the pisshead was loaded into a Police wagon. That was on my birthday.

Not at all! Plenty of people there to assist already, no point adding to the number of people/cars in a vulnerable position either.

The 2CV had an FTP today. Battery utterly dead. I grabbed my tiny jump pack. It managed a slow churn before that packed up. Haven't charged it since the Omega caper, and I fear I used rather a lot of battery. In the cold. While waiting for the car to be worked on.

So I grabbed my old Halfords jump pack, but that was not interested in providing power either. I think it needs to see voltage before it'll actually deign to provide any back, though it also has a really shit connection to the jump lead bit. Pretty crap all round really.

So I grabbed a starting handle, but that wasn't doing much. I fear that the points-assisted ignition needs more voltage for everything to spring into life than standard points.

So, I grabbed the jump leads instead.

That worked! I then drove 12 miles into town, by which time the battery seemed to have recovered. Certainly, when I went to drive home again, she fired up nicely. I fear that battery hasn't coped well with the two years off the road though, even thought I disconnected it.

I did enjoy the drive though.

So annoying that the BBC travel news website has been shut down, one of the most useful services from auntie. And no other travel service is quite as good.

Exactly. I've stopped to offer assistance when no one else has stopped yet. But too many cooks etc.

last time was not an accident (yet) but a newish Nissan stuck on the side of the a322 nr home. Older couple standing on the grass verge, so i pulled over in front ( in my elderly Mercedes) and asked If they were ok. Was told yes, they've called the aa and thanked me for asking- I was the first in 30minutes!

I thought you lived in that hilly country?

Ben

I do. The gathering of my cars is at the bottom of a hill...

I pushed my Bonnie 9 miles down the A38 once & only one person stopped to ask if they could help. Only took me about four hours of walking on a busy main road...

I'm thinking of putting my Civic up for sale here...

Anyone be interested in a 2000 Civic Aerodeck 1.6 that looks 'Oh So Scene'? Coilovers & wheels (With good tread all round) as well as original alloys & Suspension thrown in? No MOT (has't had since 2014) but failed it again a few weeks back mostly due to emissions & it using oil somewhere! (Self diagnosis, worn stem seals). Also has No V5 as I've no idea where I left it although for the sake of it I'd see about getting a new one finally.

Will put up a thread for it later if anyone cares. :)

Does it have a chrome driftland sticker and unnecessary sound system? Might be good for out-yobbing the delivery guy for the Chinese next door.

We were given an unwanted raffle prize of dinner bed and breakfast at a local hotel, which we used last night.

I expected to have the oldest and scruffiest car in the car park, but no...

London achieved, despite the best efforts of the fucking hopeless robot gearbox on the coach. Now about to descend into the depths of the tube.

You might remember my late grandad left behind a 52000 mile 306 xud sedan. Well it's going to find a home with one of my cousins who lives in France and works as a carpenter. He's coming over for the funeral and will be exporting it then!

These new tube trains go OK. We were doing 57 on the GPS a minute ago. I can still hear myself think too, which is a major improvement.

The number plate pervs amongst us might want to know of an alternative 'period' plate supplier to DMB that I found on e bay. His listings indicate more of a BL/ARG/RG/MGR leaning rather than DMB's ford fixation. Ordered a set for the pre production 75, and despite having to order in the wierd 75 rear size I insisted on, they arrived within a week....

Good work!

Did you meet the welsh guardian?

Nope, but I met your brother, briefly, he pointed me in the direction of the keys.

Going swimmingly so far, made it to the A11, and the computer is showing 64.9 mpg despite the fact I'm not exactly sparing the horses.

Proper impressed - it's a brilliant motorway car, and seems to pull better than my last TDCi. Good stereo too. It's going to be taking over daily duties from the Hyundai for the foreseeable. I've dumped it at work for now to take the Toyota home - looks like it's going to be a nice evening so I'll probably cycle back to Norwich this evening to pick it up.

I have purchased a bottle of spray liquid wax. Oh, and a tube of red touch up paint. My life is so very exciting!

And bloody Halfords overcharged me on the wax shit but trade discount so, m'eh!
