A small detail……

IMG_6050.jpeg.400fcd46f2f8880368cd308f24de7517.jpeg

Tax due back when a scruffy looking escort mk2 was often seen at the supermarket car park….

IMG_6048.jpeg.ecb613a85e1e7c36f6163794a640ee9a.jpeg

Ive removed the spoiler which had been stuck on (not very well) just need to tidy that.

One supermarket related bonus is that the extra weight having gone from the boot lid means it now holds itself up.

Must admit that's very nice looking.  I bet there's a queue for dibs! (If not, I'd best start one)

@HMC. I really want to believe that the old ford thing is bollocks (as can't afford). Please tell me that it's a miserable wooden old thing to pilot.

Gregor just dropped off the wheels.

I had them next to a neighbours car, and they look like little toy wheels by modern standards!

Ill fit them tomorrow so for now its the last of the MOTORSPORT vibe on the old rims

How about the chrome trim rings as well? Or was that an aftermarket thing?

Standard on Ghias, dealer accessory for anything else. Aftermarket things always looked shit, often plastic.

Not driven anywhere yet, i presume the wheel bolts need to be different steel vs alloy wheels?

Looks that way, yes.

Much nicer on the steels - good choice!

That looks a million times better than the Capri alloys!

There are different wheel nuts. The alloys nuts are a bit bigger and usually have a tapered washer type thing on them. Nuts for steels are usually a longer closed end type nut without the washer. These are usually chrome plated and sometimes come with little plastic nut shaped caps for the ends.

This sort.

Im not sure it’s absolutely essential to use them though, as long as the taper and thread is the same it shouldn’t matter. The proper steel wheel nuts are slimmer though and do look better.

Lovely Escort that. I was brought home from hospital as a newborn baby in a brand new signal yellow Escort 1.3GL 4 Door. YVN882T. Think it soldiered on to the early 90s. Dad traded it for a burgundy Polo breadvan, but was soon back in Escort (car) after that.

This 'Scrote is like the plain girl in glasses and unflattering clothes in a Hollywood flick. The new wheels are the equivalent of the glasses being removed...

Technically a 1979 4 door saloon, and a 2009 2 door saloon.  Sort of.

I'm not sure I can recall ever seeing a MK2 with an oversized rear plate...  Now that I  have, I can say it suits it!

It also sits lowers. Jr_HMCs are suprised how “low” it is to the road as usually they are in a toureg or a big skoda equivalent when with ex-frau-HMC
