Here it is- it is - in its slightly battered glory, with fully functional a/c and parking damage…

Very nice, I love the Exeter Rover numberplates, I worked* there in their very small in-house bodyshop on work experience in 1993 when it was under the Sewards group. What used to be there in Honiton Road is an electric bicycle showroom now.😢

* - when I look back now, I was a lazy little waste of space who likes cars.

620gsi news

the drivers door window regulator was broken- So whilst the weather was dry and the window half jammed open, i decided to replace the regulator. The weather membrane wasnt there - any suggestions for a suitable replacement?

Anyway, electric window sorted.

Its got 56k on the clock and the mot history backs it up. Im getting a giffer owner vibe- one who didn't drive big distances but often hit objects.

EDIT

A lady owned it at this address in Weston Super Mare from 2007 to 2026 with one owner previous to this (google street view 2012- even then it had the offside roof gutter trim missing)

Rover 620 news

This accord in drag was very loud. Turns out the back box was corroded on top and was venting and resonating up against the body shell. Hence a new back box is on order.

It was an emotional rather than rational purchase,  rather more like a rescue dog on death row that has survived beyond its usual life span. That it was from the vendor “BARGAIN CARS CARDIFF” says it all.

Although its doesnt make financial sense its quite satisfying  to give TLC to a car thats lasted longer than Rover, or even Honda intended.

But to most normal people its not rational. I cant lie that its also because its from a dead British manufacturer, even if much design and development had been outsourced.

Maybe you've had this discussion further up the thread, but is TA plate suffix = Devon (Tavi)?

I'll tag @LightBulbFun but there will be others who know

actually I should correct myself here, in this particular case TxxxSTA is Exeter AFRL issue (Automated first registration and licensing system) aka the system that dealers had to directly register new vehicles with the DVLA

I fully understand where you're coming from.

My MO for buying cars for the last 30+ years has almost always been swerve the excellent examples, set the budget a bit lower and buy the slightly sad looking example which needs a bit of tlc to bring it back to its best. Why source your dog from the breeder when there are plenty of old mutts at the rescue around the corner?! 😂 I enjoy tidying up my cars, especially when it prolongs their lifespan.

The 600 was always a handsome beast and I reckon they've aged really well. I wonder what remaining numbers are like?

As a 600 owner, I can probably only think of 2 other examples I've seen on the road in the past few years. I've seen far more R8's, HH-R 400's as well as 25/45/75 but the 600 definitely seems to be more 'endangered'

I think the 600 was the car that scared BMW into buying Rover. For a brief moment it looked like Rover was a credible rival to BMW.

I remember the launch - it was quite a moment. The Rover-Honda mash up worked - Honda bought the slightly dull base and Rover provided the panache. Both companies suffered from the break- up. Rover to oblivion and Honda losing their clever partner and exiting UK production.

One if those (many) sad moments in the psychodrama of the UK car industry.

The Honda-Rover partnership made sense, unlike some others (Nissan-Alfa...). It's a shame it ultimately didn't work out, and it is interesting to imagine what would have become of Rover in the 21st century, had they been able to continue on that path. There would have been no Bini, obviously. Rovers with hybrid tech shared with the Insight? We will never know.

It doesn't look rusty. These were an excellent car - but Rover / Honda had little image. I liked ours very much but being an early car - January 1994 - it succumbed to rust.

These are great cars. Mines on 155k now and still doesn’t use any oil between services. It is stupendously reliable. It gets me where I need to go and never makes a fuss doing it, yes it’s 28 years old but I don’t really have any interest in replacing it with something newer. Mine has the same engine as yours but it’s a manual Si model. I do like the wood door cappings and the GSi wheels.

They really are very unloved (apart from the Ti which has a decent following) no one seems to want the SOHC Honda cars which is a shame as they are a great engine. I agree they are now incredibly rare. I have seen no others in the time I’ve been up in Lincolnshire. There were a few at the BMC/BL day at Gaydon last year but most seem to be in enthusiast hands now.

What sort of job was the window regulator and where did you get it from?
