How goes the 406? I found a new thermostat and another key for it the other day and sent it over to you in a really tiny box - forgot to tell you. Hope it got to you ok!

I sold the 405 to a local mechanic who was going to work on it (mainly the welding) in his spare time.

Looking good. Not really a fan of german cars but this looks understated and not shouty. What engine does this have? Good luck with it. Love the colour

It’s the 2.8 and fwd rather than 4wd. With 193bhp it’s nowhere near as rapid as the v8 Quattros but it’s not particularly slow.

Thats still enough, Nigh on 200bhp is still plenty in the real world. I can see the 2.8 badge now. Was on my phone so couldnt see. still looks a nice car though

Another D2 owner, excellent. Without wanting to ruin the party, make sure the gearbox has been serviced and google for "botangs hole" (can't promise all results are sfw). You will thank me later.

The 2.8's are definetely better as front wheel drive I drove a 2.8 Quattro a few years ago and it felt properly slow.

Yeah the previous owner was on that, thankfully.

Nice! My old man had a 4.2 Quattro for a little while. I remember it being very big and very fast. Is this just about the last Audi that’s big and fast that could still be owned by a gentleman?

Going to view an old jag tomorrow and a fiat. One has 2 cylinders, the other 8.

Could go either way.

  • HMC changed the title to HMC motors- 8 vs 2 cyl FACE OFF

Problem is the Jag is running on 2 cylinders and the Fiat........

In the end I decided to buy an old jag with questionable styling and a daft engine.

Nice Lincoln LS. Legend* has it the 'R' was created at the behest of Powertrain chief Ron Lee, who wanted something faster than the standard V8 for his company car.

Oh, I had one of those about 10 years ago, very very very  fast, very very very fragile.

Great fun though.

I had a ride in one of these once - when I bought the Mitsubishi Delica the seller picked me up from the station in his S-Type R.  I remember it leaving a tailgating Audi for dead on the M40.

It’s got a button to electronically adjust the position of the pedals. Sort of like a posh Marcos without the fibreglass.

Probably less of a maintenance headache than a Quattro too?

Even though at this age and size I'd thought it would be a proper Quattro rather than the Haldex lark.

There was an element of risk with this supercharged s type as it was - for one of these- cheap. And had limited service history. Nevertheless, I failed to be put off and it’s now my daily. I don’t cover big miles so the fuel economy isn’t really an issue. These Devon B roads are fun despite or perhaps because of the limited grip that’s available at times if too Much of the 400bhp is released at once. Still if I should need assistance, I do have a Motorola car phone to summon it from.

Well the jag continues to be low key and amusing, and the rover p4 remains with a local garage being tended to between jobs. What a heap of shit. Hopefully it will repay me by being a nice little runabout once it stops and goes properly.

Meanwhile the minor found a new home for a healthy profit. I’ll take that as it can help pay for the p4 rehab bill.

Following brake failure in the jag (scary), and with the p4 still waiting to be fixed I became carless. Careless. After considering offers of loan cars from friends (a Sirion or a Range Rover classic I used to own) I nearly bought a 2001 v70 from a long term owning friend; but I just didn’t really feel the love for it. It was the 2.4 petrol which I thought would be slow for how thirsty it would end up being. Prejudices creeping in?

Instead I ended up with a 9-3 convertible. It’s the car that put floppy into floppy top. im not really a fan of wobbly cars, but curiosity got the better of me, I’ve not owned one, and under mild duress I am now owning a tidy ish blue example with tan leather. £1000 bill last year that the recently deceased owner footed for having the bulkhead welded up at a Saab specialists helped clinch the deal.

Looks nice.  N/A, LPT or FPT (boost gauge)

What happened with Jag? Full on failure or just on a car park?
