Sad to hear via FB that the long-standing AS member known as oldford has sadly passed away.

I didn't know him personally, so apologies if I'm speaking out of turn, but I couldn't see any mention on here.

He owned a Sierra and a Cortina that were both immaculate, and which, for me, epitomised the ethic of using older vehicles for the purpose they were built, utilising sensible upgrades and preserving them for the future, and for the benefit of other car enthusiasts.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad to hear. I'd never met him but spoke to him a bit on here on various threads mainly about our common interest of old Fords!

His cars really were stunning and clearly were his pride and joy.

RIP oldford, best wishes to his family and friends.

If you read the grumpy old man thread I had posted about it on there, he was a good personal friend of mine and it was devastating seeing him go down hill so quickly, in the last couple of weeks after being told that his cancer had won and was in his bones he just nose dived in a matter of days having two strokes and being pretty much comatose. I went to say goodbye last week after being told he only had a few hours left to live and he was just a shadow of his former self.

I'm raising a collection for Macmillian at my car meet tomorrow night on behalf of him, the nurses who look after the suffers at the end of their days cover such a large area and really do a fantastic service at the most tragic time in people's lives that I just want to give something back.

Sorry Trigger, I don't go on the 'grumpy' threads, so missed it. Hope you have a great turnout tomorrow and raise a good few quid.

If you stick a link to donate up trigger I'm sure plenty on here will want to donate.

RIP oldford.

I saw Trigger's Facebook post yesterday, but I'm in Sutherland at the moment with limited internet speed where we are staying. I did take a ride out on the bike to a crossing of the River Brora and dipped its tyres in the water - it was too high to consider cycling across.

RIP oldford.

This is very sad news, i didn't know he was ill. I met him at Essex shitemeet and he showed a keen interest in my (not Ford) car, and quickly diagnosed a couple of problems while they were still minor. A kind, knowledgeable and thoughtful bloke from what I could see, which makes the news all the more difficult to hear. I'll raise a glass to him this evening.

Cancer is a cunt, the dougie mac nurses certainly do a fantastic job, A glass will be raised to oldford, I didn't know him but he sounds a fantastic bloke.

Rip oldford

My fondest memory of Oldford was at the Jaywick meet a few years back. He made a few choice and very witty comments about what he witnessed.

He'll be dearly missed.

+1 on the link if you're setting up an online donations pot, Trig.

I can only echo the sentiments above. He was a lovely chap, a pleasure to spend time with at Shotley, Jaywick and various other local shows and meets, and his cars were always immaculate:

It's a testament to his enthusiasm that even in fairly recent times he was still improving them despite his illness. The Cortina looked particularly good when it was at Shotley earlier this year.

I'm not exactly local at present so sadly can't make it tomorrow night. I'm sure he will be in everyone's thoughts there just as he is here for me.

Macmillan do a fantastic job and support entire families in need, I'd be happy to chip into a collection in John's memory if you post a link up Trigger.

Sorry to hear this, I met him at the Stondon Museum meet and like all the other guys there he was enthusiastic and could usually find something to make a joke about. Sad to think he won't be around any more.

Condolences to all who knew oldford and counted him as friend or family.    I think of Autoshite as a virtual pub and there's an empty glass in the house.   RIP.

Sorry for everyones loss.

Very sorry to hear that news.  I can only echo the others in that on the couple of occasions I met him he was great company.

Here's his starring role in the AS Stondon photo.

(Edit: Just seen that Trig had already posted this photo in the Grump thread but, well, it always deserves another look I think)

John had a very dry sense of humour, he was a really top bloke, and allegedly the harshest MOT tester in East Anglia, he even failed his own Sierra, going to miss him

I had a collection at my car meet tonight on belief of Macmillan, all of John's family was there too which was nice. We have raised over £550 in the evening which I don't think is too shabby!

Triggs if OK, I will drop in a few bob when I'm next passing to add to the fund, well done to all the ECR members, that would have put a smile on John's face
