Surely there can't be many 2 door escorts left now that haven't been given the OMG REARWHEELZ RALLY POWERSLIDIN RETRO treatment.they will simply run out of them! shame though as I doubt even one beige popular will survive for posterity

To be honest, I think the world only needs a few beige pops.I fully suspect that after I've finished restoring the Sport, someone'll buy it and it'll end up looking like a Vatenen replica within a year or so.

That Cortina looks lovely - and it's being sold by a mate of mine! Must go to fund silly Citroen purchase...I wouldn't mind that actually, but I think I've got enough on my plate at the moment. I really should be out playing with the Bond's rear brakes...Maybe after dinner.

You'd have to hit the scenery at great speed to make it a proper replica! :D:D:D

That looks a nice example, and it's close to me! There's a couple of nice ones on e-bay now, the price that minter fetched the other week has obvioulsy brought them out of the woodwork! Optimistic expectations with the pricing though, I think.

Not eBay, but this is sat opposite work in Norwich. It looks bloody lovely, and doesn't appear to be full of plod. The arches are getting a bit frilly (and one door has bubbles), but it's obviously been loved. 90k miles.

Seems like a reasonable price too with full ticket...

Interesting old Escort. Couple of queries though - did the "L" spec have those skinny steels as stock? No trims?? And the plastic head restraints with a hole though? I thought L-spec got you cloth-trimmed ones with no hole, certainly the case later on, looks much more 'popular plus' to me.

I thought all that changed on the B plate. I remember A plate ones with the see through headrests etc. In fact, the first 'prefix plate' car I went in was an Escort pretty much identical to that on 1th Aug '83.2nd was an A reg Pug 305.

You're probably right P-M.Confused myself as the Pop Plus Mk4 I had a few years back started out with those wheels and seats (though later gained XR3 kit, seats & wheels, but retained the dreadful HCS engine & 4-speed gearbox. GR8 4 traffic light embarrassment)

Thinking of local cars for sale, there's a B-reg Cavalier 5dr LD I pass regularly which is up for £350 ono. Should be a pic about a year or so back on my Spottings thread. Solid dull green colour, little bit tatty but looks solid enough, only a 4-speed 'box for added purgatory. Facelift model with the egg-crate grille that had been used previously on the CD.PM me quickly and I could get you the number, failing that I passed it onto Wuvvum so he might be able to find it if you're interested. I'm away for week or so.

Yep I had 1983 A plate 1.3L estate, had grey see-through head restraints and those wheels. Swapped thge wheels for capri GL wheels with 185/70's on and bought a centre console from 'Alfords to put my CB in. Classy. This was 1989 though....

Bien sur! Nice to see cars like this in France. I thought mainly the Dutch went in for the staggering restos of boggo cars.I have to admit, I'm really feeling the love for these at the minute. Maybe a sud de la France LHD peach is teh way forward? I had a quick squizz on the Finnish equivalent of eBay (because I read they were manufactured in Finland for a time) and I found a front wing for sale!Mark.

What we should do is have a whipround and get a car transporter (a really rubbish one) then send it abroad and scoop up all this cheap France-based tat that Mr B keeps posting. Then I could get my own stacklight 929, instead of giving him grief about his every day.

Those Alpines are lovely. But particularly the last gold one. Mmm.That Escort L looks the spit of the one my uncle had up until 3 years ago. Those wheels and headrests will be right for an '83MY car - the '84s got trims, cloth 'rests and also rear badging in the Sierra font, if that makes sense.

The Alpines are lovely. I suppose they're a Maxi equivalent over there or something so chances of finding a good'un still pretty high.Hasn't M. Bolleaux already got one IIRC?

That Escort must be slow, with a '1.3 cc' engine...:roll::roll::roll:
