Will update the thread as soon as I hear any news from the owner. She's going to call back PC Bruce at Harrow police station tomorrow morning, to find out what the situation is with it.

cheeky bastards even had time to fit a tow pole,no mini i ever owned had a towing eye,so did they make something up to do the job?unless minis of that age have towing provision.

It's not clear in the screenshots but it was just a rope.

Nice Mini, so glad its back with the rightful owner. Hope the car is OK, Mini's have feelings too.

We'll they had better hurry up and comply or the fine will kill them

V5C has had that part removed for a while now

Is last keeper change date identifiable information?

V5C has lost the last owners name and address - which obviously is for GDPR reasons - but I can't think there's a need to remove a date.

You never know, it might come back in better condition! (I can hope)

My parents once told me that when they lived in Newcastle in the 1970s they had a Volvo estate stolen. It was found a few days later with a full tank of fuel (it only had about quarter in it when it was nicked). Turned out it was used to shift stolen caravans because it had a tow bar.

My father-in-law once had his Escort van nicked. Some coppers spotted it and asked the bloke who was near it if it was his car. He said 'no,' leaving a surprising number of tools in it. He did quite well out of that one. That might have been the same van that had broken down at his work unit, so he left it there, taking the battery with him to charge it up. The next day, he came in and went to fit the battery, only to find that someone had fitted another one and tried to start it!

Found a couple of pictures taken before the theft - note the correct steel wheels and hubcaps still present! Grey grille too.

Very nice, unusual to see an un-messed about one. I might be unusual but I like the 80's ones with the thin 12" wheels, I think they look very handsome. It's similar to one I sometimes see near work:

The owner has spoken to the PC who left the voicemail for her to ring. Apparently the Mini was stopped while being driven in Cambridgeshire. The driver and passenger were arrested for multiple offences, and the car seized.

She's awaiting a call back from a DC with information about where the car is being kept etc.

It's going to be interesting to see how this one pans out.

Sounds like good news to me! I'm curious about what the multiple offenses are. Driving a stolen car is one but what could they be doing in a stolen car a year after it was nicked to both attract arrest for "multiple" offenses I'm not sure.

Don't know but could easily be no licence/insurance/handling stolen goods, maybe some unrelated stuff too.

Possibly ringed and sold on? The unsuspecting new owner could then be busted for no insurance/stolen goods etc?

Posted

Maybe the coppers were actually being proactive and checked the VINs after stopping for other reasons.

Handling stolen goods is the only thing related to the theft of the car that I can imagine. No insurance / MOT / tax / license are not arrestable offenses.

Well I don't fucking know, maybe the back seat was full of stolen garden gnomes or summat?

Whatever the outcome of this, fingers crossed the owner will be reunited with it, and the 2 cretins nicked have a nice holiday just outside Haverhill

You're right.

Haverhill would be worse than prison.

(Yes I did just Google Maps that and no, I didn't know that place actually existed before hand but hoped it would)

Can fit a lot of cocaine in a Mini boot...

On one of those cop shows the police spotted some tit in a golf weaving in and out of traffic at speed on a ring road late at night so they pulled him over, nervous, smelled of cannabis so they asked him to open the boot which he was reluctant to do

Thousands of pounds worth of it in there

You'd go down the M6 to Wales if you were staring in Carlisle. The joke did not specify a starting point.
