Renault 20TS automatic for sale

Hi folks,

having recently acquired Mouseflake's old Renault 30, I am looking to move on the Renault 20 in order to free up room in the garage for the R30! Those who have checked out my sporadic project thread will recall that I rescued this from an old guy's garage in Buckinghamshire where it had been stowed off the road since 1990! I have enjoyed working on her, and would like to do it all again with the R30 - for me the pleasure is in the project, not driving the finished car

I have lavished the following on her:

New cambelt

New battery

new headlight bulbs

new genuine Renault back box

NOS wiper motor

reconditioned starter motor

4 Amil alloys

New rear brake cylinders

New brake master cylinder

ATF change

Engine oil change and new filter

New air filter

So what's left to do for an MOT? Not a lot! The brakes need bleeding off, and there is some welding to do on the OSF B pillar where it meets the wing. The NSR wheel arch has been cut away and needs replacing with the on-hand repair panel.

Anybody feel like giving her the final shove toward roadworthiness? If you're handy with the MIG, you could probably do it for zilch spend! Car is located in Shipley, West Yorkshire.

Price wise, it owes me about £2.5k, but I know I'm never going to see that again! It's the only TS Auto left in the UK IIRC. Shiter's price Â£1200

Thinking about it Skizz, it's a good job you were in the Lancia rather than this when you broke down today.  With the current state of high alert in that London and the Renault 20's well-publicised connections to terrorist organisations, you'd probably have had an SO15 SWAT team pinning you to the ground and pointing sub-machine guns at your head rather than being offered tea and sympathy by a rich bloke.

Oof, nice. Not far away too.

A project for twelve hundred though... that's like the rest of my fleet put together. Can you tell I'm Yorkshire?

It's a lovely old car, but the camera does lie too - cosmetically, it's bloody scruffy! The price is a scrat compared to what it's drained me of anyway, so if anybody has fair offers to make, pm them to me.

  • 1 year later...

It went off to live on a farm in the end.

It's happy there  :-D

No seriously, it did

The plan was to restore it, but he's never done anything much with it after acquiring a R20 TX which is having money lavished on it.

I should go get it back really, I think he's lost interest. But it was just such a ballache of a project!

The last Renault 20/30 I saw would be about 10 years ago, occasionally one used to be outside the Derbyshire Lane MOT place in Sheffield.

Yep, that was the black one that was rotten as a pear iirc? There were some photos of it on here many moons ago...........

It was dark but can't remember what shade exactly. What became if it?

Bought for scrap money sight unseen back in 2006, there was literally nothing worth saving on it. SCRAPPED.

"How Many Left" says at the end of last year there were 17 R20s and 7 R30s taxed in the UK.

Sounds about right, they actually have a better survival rate than other much more common  cars in the UK. At least five thousand still in France I would think, always a couple of dozen for sale on leboncoin at any one time. Not a rare car by any means, they just never sold very many over here

It must have been bad!

Absolutely snookered by all accounts - it had been parked outside and not driven since 1995, and must have been well and truly on it's last MOT even then!

Think I've spoken to the current owner on the phone at work, he phoned up after some rear wheel cylinders and confirmed he was the owner of the 'very rotten brown one' as I twigged. Chap's name is Edward IIRC. I'm sure he said he had three 20/30 series.

Yep, he got all 3 off me. He's really going for it with the 20TX at the moment, spending a fortune on it, which is great to see.

I don't know if he'll then get the TS restored. I might go get it back if he doesn't. The R30 is almost in checkmate bodywork wise but he would never scrap it, that's why I let him take it.

Well time will tell, but he's certainly the sort of bloke that unloved cars like the R20 need - not afraid to spend money on an old car just because he likes it. Hats off to Edward, he's going to be driving something genuinely different to the shows this year

They are going to be restored afaik.

He's going all out with the 20TX, then he's starting on the 20TS, and the R30 is last in line. It's just a question of time and funds permitting I imagine - isn't it ever
