My local house clearance auction had this through today.  They only do cars as part of deceased estates, so sometimes a bargain is to be had.

Today it was this.

Lot 1.

SILVER BMW 316i COMPACT THREE-DOOR HATCHBACK, N845VDV REGISTERED 24/04/96, 1596 CC PETROL, ONE FORMER KEEPER, 39,432 MILES, MOT UNTIL 10/04/17 (KEY AND LOGBOOK IN OFFICE).

It had a few giffer scrapes most notably the nearside wing mirror, The osr wheel arch was quite crusty and I reckon least two new tyres and an exhaust needed for MOT.

I was in the room when it went through, how much does the team think it was worth and what do you think it actually went for?

£150. No more than that, you can pick these up for practically nothing. Rev blue jeans sold one recently on here, really tidy for £600 I think.

I think this is going to be the other way round.

I reckon it's worth £250-300, and it sold for £650.

Do we go higher or lower?

Going by the fact its lot number 1, based on all the Solent Shiters visits to the Southampton Hall of Broken Dreams I will say £10

My guess:

Worth: fuck all

Sold for: too much.

But I'm still bitter about these things.

Just to confirm, this is not a bid. I reckon with a whole week's MOT it's got to be £195 plus buyer's premium plus VAT. Either that or it didn't get a bid and got put with the next lot, so somebody ended up with a 1960s oak veneered sideboard and a BMW for £17

I think you might be surprised at how fucking mental classic car investors/speculators are.

If you got two of these morons fighting it out for a one owner, low mileage 20 plus year old BMW,it could, conceivably get over £2000.

£ 840 fecking quid!

That's the thick end of a grand with commission.

Unbelievable.

Did you see the buyer?    I'll bet it was some enterprising old duffer who fancies himself as a 'general dealer'; the sort you see at car boot sales with a stand full of optimistically priced garden hand tools refurbished* with light blue hammerite.

He reckons BMWs are valuable cars; anyone who offers him less than a grand is 'trying to pull a fast one'.  They won't catch him out, because he 'knows what these are worth'.

Bloody hell.

There was a very honest looking example ont' bay last week for £600 BIN which caught my eye, I'll see if I can find it...

Retail value x2.

Stupid old fart. These things aren't worth a cup of cold piss. Worthy, yet worthless.

Quite a few E36 compacts with low mileage are turning up on eBay at the moment..post-9282-0-06523100-1491342575_thumb.pngpost-9282-0-78615800-1491342607_thumb.pngpost-9282-0-50715400-1491342655_thumb.pngpost-9282-0-82302300-1491342697_thumb.png

It looks like the days of a good cheap low miler are over.

But I did see a nice straight one with about 70000 on the clock in Boston green the other day for £895.

If I can find it I will put it up
