Alright gang, I've just been and towed this hime with the A-frame THIS VERY EVENING:

IMG_20161013_195127194.jpg

Won it off eBay a week ago for £85, but I have made an offer on a house this week and its been accepted today, so I now feel like I have got far too much on already without getting embroiled in this! Just not gonna have time.

Its a 216 cabrio with the Honda DOHC engine, 122bhp. It runs and drives and actually seems to look fairly presentable, (noting that its a black car and I have only seen it at night) Engine pulls well certainly.

On the downside: Failed its MOT on welding, I have not had a proper poke about down below so can't give you chapter and verse on that. Exhaust blows, battery is utterly paggered and the hood is a bit past its best although its not got any massive rips in it and the back window is still intact. 110,000 miles.

I paid £85 for it and spent £20 on pez towing it home so anyone fancying it can have it for what it owes me. Its in Uttoxeter.

If its too rough for you these D16A8 engines are actually quite sought after, (certaily sell for more than £105 on ebay)  theres no VTEC on em but they are quite a screamer still. Would be great to chuck in a 416 estate to soup it up a bit without going berserk.

I have only got page 2 of the logbook now, but I guess the whole logbook will come through to me in a week or two in my name.

PM me if you fancy it, I will bosh some more pics up tomorrow.

I'm sure Tam will come along and snap this up. He only has about 10 of them at the moment and none are soft tops.

Congrats on house, hope it has a big drive. A framing a Rover with what looks like a Laguna has to be a 2017 calendar shot.

Posted

Yeah I 'framed it with the Gooner. Towed very well to be fair to it. Cost me £150 to have the towbar fitted by the local garage though.

Congrats on the the forthcoming mortgage ( aka death pledge)

Will it have a large barn attached, or are you getting married ( snigger)?

Posted

No barn, but it does have a nice big driveway with a car port and a detached 1.5x std width brick garage with a flippin chimney!!! It's gonna be amazing.

Sounds like that's your best bet TBH.

Stick it on Facebook or Gumtree, just for LOL's and offers of £62 or broken playstations.

Posted

Put it on Facebook, some lad has asked me to ring him about it cos he hasn't got any credit on his friggin phone!🙄

That's almost predictable enough to be a wind up from a 'shiter.

I actually thought about it as I need a Honda 1.6 engine! 680 miles round trip with Defender and trailer works out somewhere between  Â£150 - £230 in fuel.

Blimey, I'm right in the middle of the country, where are you that's 330 miles away??

I've had a bit of a look at this, its got some rot in the inner rear arches like my 600 (only worse). Otherwise seems pretty solid TBH. But you'll defo need to be handy with the MIG to get it back on the road!

if that was red, a coupe and a hyundia i would of brought it

ROLL UP ROLL UP, no-one tempted by this honk of $hite? PERFECT 4 WINTAR, ideal Xmas present for someone you don’t like etc etc. As its BLACK FRIDAY I will attempt to induce a punch-up by reducing the price by ONE POUND to just £104 as well

Posted

Tempted, yes.  I have nowhere to put it so I've let the R8 club know about it, someone might want it.  I know someone was after a set of the alloys this one wears so it could be useful for them.

Been tempted by this very car in the past as it is a bit of an eBay slut assuming there are not two early convertibles in black still doing the rounds. These R8 convertibles are getting quite scarce and having owned one it's a shame to see it scrapped for an engine, surely someone with welding skills on here could take it on as a winter project to give them a spring profit.

Posted

Sorry to say, but these R8s are so unloved, it's hard to give them away. My 214 SLI was up for I think £120 on here, with a month's ticket left, too. Nobody wanted it even at that price, so over the bridge it went! :(

FFS I could insure that. Easily. Of course, I've just spent more than £105 on a fuggin bike.

Rover whore is needing some new boots, just saying like  :-D

And panties?

Yeah, I'm moving house soon so I think the landlady of where I live now will insist I shift it sadly

I just flogged this old shitter on a local FB group, 9 hours from advertising it to standing watching it drive off with £100 in my pocket
