Not quite. The Volvo small thing and Renault Midlum share the same Renault-designed cab, which shares pedigree with the old Renault Premium cab. These cabs are all made in a factory in Caen, France, and those for LFs are shipped to Leyland for final assembly. The LF is otherwise generally of British component origin, using Cummins engines from Darlington and axles from American Axle Co in the old Albion factory in Glasgow. LHD LFs are also made for export. Only RHD CFs and XFs are made at Leyland for the British and presumably Irish markets, but pretty much all components are again imported so for these the factory is pretty much assembling CKD kits.

That has now got me searching for De Rooy transporters. They made some weird stuff over the years!

My Mum bought this recently to potentially replace the Ifor trailer depending on how she gets on with it. It was due its first use in anger at the weekend so here it is as I pulled it out of hibernation ready for a short warm up trip to find out how big the fuel tank is.

It's done a couple of miles, but the old school diesel in it still runs beautifully.

I would prefer it with a tilt and slide on the back though 😅

I belive so. Certainly when I was dealing with them  (briefly) 17 years ago Renaults were my least favorite truck/tractor as there was usually some mechanical malady to them. Certainly  the Premium Tractors would fail to hold air overnight and require a good 2-5 minutes of revving the nuts off them to build enough air pressure and thus free off the brakes.  Tho they had their uses as I'd use one to block off our yard

There are spark ignition systems but I've never read of a dual fuel one, most systems use compression with a small squirt of diesel along with the gas to light the fire as the cetane value of gas is rubbish.

Do not know how much Czech truck brand Tatra has been talked about here but I am fascinated with these. All-wheel drive and with special suspension and chassis make these really unique.

Tatra Phoenix with Daf cabin and Daf / Paccar engine. Available in versions from 4x4 to 10x10 and has been in production since 2011.

 

 

Tatra TERRN 1 (815) has been in production since 1983 and is still in production. These are available from 4x4 to 12x12 have had both air cooled and water cooled engines from 310 to 590 hp and from V6 to straight 6 to V12 engines. And has won the Dakar Rally 6 times.

 

 

They now also have 2 other models in production.

 

Tatra Force (815-7) based on 815.

 

And Tatra Tactic (T810).

Will also include the Tatra 111 which was in production from 1942 to 1962. And was known for being extremely reliable even in Siberia and helped rebuild Europe and the USSR after the war.

 

Here, Tatra's special chassis is clearly visible it had 6x6.

 

 

And the engine was air-cooled V12 diesel.

£20k plus I recon. It still ran like that. Must have been 60/70 litres of creamy engine jizz in there. Sump removed and it ran sweet as a nut. Until yobbo put full acceleration and it ground to a halt almost. 
 

had it been mine, or fleet, or owner driver I’d have cleaned as much out as poss and ran it on red for 5 mins. Drain and refill with 5w30 and see ya in 6 weeks.

There's one of those Lonestars in the UK, owned by Neil Yates Recovery who have a liking for obscure Yank stuff. Haven't seen it myself but there's plenty of photos about and it really is a strange looking thing.
