Ruffgeezer's Dat Sun Fun.

Mike hasn't long left, the slave battery I brought home was beyond shagged and one of the brakelights doesn't work.

Other than that I think I'm pretty happy, but it's dark and I haven't had a proper look at it yet... here are a couple of teasers;

Not shown in this pic, smoke appearing from the slave battery which was swiftly dispatched hedgewards.

I love the front end of this.

Yay it's staying in the Autoshite family! Loving old Datsuns, Paging DollyWobbler to the beige courtesy phone for a featurette

Obviously, I'm going to offer my heartfelt congratulations as a fellow 1200 owner!

Good luck with getting everything sorted. I look forward to hearing how it progresses. I'm sure you'll have it looking like this soon enough:

To be honest though, given that many of them looked like this by the end of the '70s it's remarkable that any have survived:

I'm aiming for mechanical overhaul first, do you have any good contacts for parts?

Eddie Ratley (Ratdat) on the East Coast, or Will Lightburn(Datman) down south in East Grinstead, would both be good places to start.

If they haven't got it,one should be able to point you...

Both highly recommended.

Thanks for the info Nigel, this one was living with Ed up until a few hours ago!

Yup, what Nigel said. Probably Datman more for service stuff. Also eBay, including sites in Australia and Japan.

In that shot it looks like a scaled down Ital with a tailgate that fits properly.

Love that front end, hoping to get some crystal 7" H4s to replace the broken sealed beams.

That looks bloody awesome! What's it like rust wise?

It looks great as it is with the old battered paint and surface rust, but are you planning on painting it?

Posted

That looks awesome ruffgeezer.   Your car obviously but wouldn't the crystal lights look a bit out of place?   Or is that the point?

Yours still has the radio blanking plate too, excellent!

Looks like it was originally this dark green colour?

Sadly those shots are nearly 20yrs old, so no chance of spares there.

Amazingly, this thing lasted until 1982. I can't imagine doing 2,000 miles a week in mine - I bet the drivers caned it mercilessly just to give some light relief to each journey.

What a lovely, lovely thing.

Must not paint at all. Just 'clear coat' it :)

It's going to be difficult, there are some new panels with it that will have to be painted in the original green, the front wings are a horror of hammerite, wob and fibreglass.

Great project.

Love the bird shite patina.

I had a 180B in the eighties. Mechanically bulletproof but sadly more filler than steel.

You can obtain Lucas sealed beam units readily, old stock, and the light output is still very good. I think they were rated at 55/75w

Yeah we probably have some sealed beams at work but I'd prefer to update even just to H4.

I should be getting some ramp time in a few weeks so I can assess just how much fresh tin it requires.
