Tyreleader offer all manner of bizarre tyres in sizes that are right, but wrong.

I've never heard of virtually all the names that come up, and almost none have reviews. However, I can get 4 brand new, notionally legal tyres for less than a hundred quid. incredible, especiialy since they've gone round half the world before they've even been fitted to my car.

The Almera takes 13164433_592633520924889_236521539524166

And the above site undercuts even Tyreleader for this size.

Result :)

Puma needed a new set of tyres so I got ditchfinders from my local geezer - they are surprisingly good (although they weren't the cheapest I've ever seen). Have had Chinese death rings on previous cars and they were proper scary, but these are OK, and certainly better than the "quality" that was on there - 4 different quality brands including one that may have been an original.   They even seem OK in the wet.

Fuppin hell, thats bigger than the wheels on the Saab! Good work!

Had a quick look, I thought their 195/50/15 rainexperts were cheaper than tyreleader, but they're about the same with postage included.

The cheapest tyres they have are £17.99 a corner for Kingpins in 165/65/13 - cheapest in this size on tyreleader currently is 21.87 but the bangerboyz postage is 17 quid a set - you'd be a pound better off with the HiFlys from tyreleader, although you are guaranteed to end up in a hedge either way.

They are used for racing because of their grippyness; the cheapness is probably reflected in high wear.

If its a banger bloke running the site don't ask to have them fitted as they will: not be balanced, fitted with a tube (not necessary the same size as the tyre) and have a gaiter made from a second tyre.  All of which may negate the road legal claim.

Treadxtyres are  a pukka outfit who can fit and balance tyres as good as anyone. The problem you will have with the tyres is not grip but wear. Kingpins and Alpins are really sticky but wear quite fast and Alp4s are the best tyre I have ever used in the wet. They are also great in the snow but they are not suitable for everyday motoring.

PS they are in Newcastle Staffs and not Newcastle upon Broon Ale

I'm normally a bit of a tyre snob, but I just put a pair of cheapo Delinte Ditch Hunter 2's on the stopgap Golf to replace a couple of ancient, worn out and cracking Toyo's. WCPGW?

Why do so many chinese tyres have shit names?

Sailun/Wanli/Linglong - none inspiring any confidence.

The winner must be infinity- because presumably thats how long it will take to stop.

I'm pretty sure any new tyre will be better than the 5.20 x10 colway remould crossplies I've had the pleasure* to drive on!

Joking aside - wondering where to source tyres for less than a million quid for the AMC.  OE were crossply but it's currently fitted with 195/14 (front) and 205/14 (rear) van tyres.  Fairly sure this was done to get the tallest profile possible, however they are the tyres that were fitted when I bought it 10 years ago so probably due a change, and the ride is pretty harsh for a Yank - some of it is scuttle shake due to being a bendy convertible from the olden days, but I reckon the tyres aren't helping.

Places like Longstone have old fashioned 14" radials, but it's a long way to travel and far from cheap.

Infinity might be how long it takes the teflon-based tread on the tyres to wear down.

I used black circles - got 4 x toyo proxes for the focii (195/60 15) for £200 fitted.

I got a set of cheapo tyres put on a breadvan Polo, over 20 years ago. Brand new, but like I say very cheap, something like ten quid each. Almost immediately, the front wheels went badly out of balance, so I went elsewhere and got them sorted. Happened again a couple of weeks later. It turned out that the tyres were mainly vinyl and were actually "slipping round on the rims, mate". That, coupled with poor grip and the notorious un-servoed brakes made life interesting.

Imagine what they'd have done if you'd had brakes - you'd have worn the tyres until they dropped off the rims on a particularly* fast corner.

I got Technic tyres for my Samba, also cheap and the same tread pattern as Pirelli P600. They were pretty good grip-wise, but didn't last long. 195 65 13. Binhoker of this parish will remember the man I got them from, Tommy McWilliams. Tommy also banded my 3 stud steelies for me for a tenner.

Are Nankang tyres any good? Ive been told they are crap, but read reviews saying they are good and balanced, but not on a fast car as they didnt prevent my hedge interface.

If anyone is after 16" tyres with a load of tread, i have four of these.

Posted

They used to be a joke, but seem to get the odd decent review nowadays. Probably perfectly fine for run of the mill lowish powered stuff.

With rainsports and bluresponse's being so cheap I can't see the point in buying Wan-Li Super Expert Extreme Sport Dark Horse's.
