What shite car-repair jobs are you curently putting off?

I really have to replace the petrol tank on the Vectra. Its becoming a tad incontinent at anything approaching 1/2 full.Other than the cost (£375 for a Vaux one with the required internal baffles) I have no excuse for putting it off. Got a week off work in April, a garage, even the exhuast that has to be removed first to get the tank off is nice and new and bolted on.Just the thought of arsing about under the car, turning the air blue, after last weekend makes me want to reach for the beer!Anyone else putting off annoying jobs like this on their shite?

Yep, I need to replace the damaged head on my Astra Pineapple. I have all the bits, it's just the mojo that's missing.

rover 418 tourer gearbox, its noisy but it keeps going, was going to do it last summer but ended up working on the house instead. It just looks like a lot of things to take off under the bonnet. Also lower engine mount, driveshaft gaitor and the rattly gear selector, I really need to just take it off the road for a bit and get the whole lot out in one go but just keep driving it instead. secondly welding up the sills/floor/inner wings on the XR3i another job ive been looking at for months but not got started although I have a lot more enthusiasm for this than the rover gearbox. Thirdly dashboard out of 306 XRD to fix leaky heater matrix aaarrggh

There is a crusty bit on the Jelly Mould's rear N/S sill, which I think, if I catch it now will probably save me a welding job, but then I look at it and think, if I give it a swift tap with the knockometer its going to go "boufff" and WILL become a welding job so I keep putting it off, knowing that the longer I ignor it the more involved the repair is likley to get and its right next to the fuel lines (also a bit rusty) too.

A bit like Torsten-Transit- replace engine, reardoors. front door reskin, new rear arches, seats, sills, paint, MOT....has to be done for end of MayDiesel Cortina- weld rear sills, new fuel tank, convert to 2.9iCustom Cortina- strip it out and sell/give the shell to anyone that wants it.Mk3 Cortina GXL- refit interior, rebuild carb, MOT, sell.Mk3 Cortina 2door- fit new running gear, engine, doors, wings, bit of welding, interior, MOT.CortinaP100- new rad, custom exhaust, weld, weld, weld paint, MOT.Orion Diesel- remove good bits and scrap.Micra- remove FT's bits and scrap.Mondeo, fuck the gearbox swap....too much work, remove bit and scrap.Oldsmobile, weld up cracked manifold, service, fit nitros kit.Sierra P100- fit reversing lights, wash.New car- who knows depends whats wrong with it after a couple of days.and other than that I have 4 people wanting me to rebuild Cortinas for them......and I dont have my garage any more :cry:

I'm with Thorsten. Its just toooo loong, tooo depressing

Err...certainly not as long a list as some.405 saloon - fit new rocker cover gasket (ooh I hate oil drips, me), inspect front-to-back brake pipes and hopefully get away with sand down, Jenolite, POR15 then Waxoyling. Front discs and pads to be changed. And then Waxoyling the whole car. Although 200k mile service will probably come first.405 estate - change blown dash bulbs behind heater controls (not critical and a fiddly job but it bugs me, y'know?), Waxoyl whole car. Ooh and a gearbox oil change.Accord - discs and pads all round (probably leave this to the local garage as I have a fear of buggering the ABS), anti-roll bar links front and back both sides (reckon I can do this), fuel filter change. And then guess what? Waxoyl the whole car.

Pull out dent in rear wheel arch. Put off indefinitely because you all know what will happen the day after I do it

R4 - New handbrake cables, repair & repaint front apex panelR11 - rear brakes, inlet manifold, refit interior, repaint bonnet, new osf wing, couple of tyres, welding osr chassis leg. I could go on but its depressing me!Alto - Service, cambelt?

Galant - Could do with the diff oil changing, but I bloody hate the smell of the stuff and I just can't be bothered so I'm waiting until a mechanic becomes free. Also need to put some of the interior back together properly, that's not too big a deal. Might do it this weekend.323 Wagon - Requires welding on the rear quarter bottoms, not my job. And an exhaust fitting when I've got all the bits, again that's not my job - crawling around on the floor, sod that! Need to remove the rear bumper for that, might get around to doing that at some point. Also some cosmetic work.Stanza - Fit all these nice trim bits I got from Manchester. I need to get the rear carpet out because it is a tad damp at the moment. I've figured out the final step of the process so this weekend it might be sorted. Also repaint the bottom half of the car in a crazy brown colour.Charmant - Pump the tyres up a bit and charge the battery. All I can say is at least the weather is getting better, not much fun trying to sort out a car when it's absolutely freezing cold.

On the CX - the rear 1/4 window is de bonded and I've been meaning to get at it for yonks. I believe the plan was to get it 'before winter'Also could do with getting the mould spots off the headlining

Posted

Paint bonnet and rear wings, bleed brakes (need expensive large cap for eezibleed), and finally make the car start.

I'm off to try and figure out how to remove the roof console from our Espace so I can try and dry the central locking receiver! Bloody wife and her list of jobs!

BMW E30 325i Sport, Been meaning to replace the starter motor for the last year so I don't have to turn the key fifty times to get it to start.VW T25, wanted to clean up the seams before they get really bad.Mini Cooper, must get round to looking at the knocking noise coming from the front offside and replace the rusty doors.Instead of having one car whereby lots of works gets done I have lots of cars and nothing gets done.

My Triumph 1300 has been in need of an engine and gearbox rebuild for a few years but I can't bring myself to take it off the road! It still runs along pretty well but is using a lot more oil and becoming much noisier. Gearchange is very notchy too.I just love driving it too much though!

I've done this already, but I've been putting off removing the gearbox from the Starion in a 8 foot wide lock up. A Pinto has tipped over and has spilt it's oil over half the floor and gearbox fluid will come out of the prop shaft. Whatever happens, I'm going to be washing various fluids out of my hair. And it's not like it couldn't be avoidable, I've put the clutch release fork in WRONG THREE TIMES and had to remove it THREE TIMES. And I've now broken it so I have to buy a new one.

You haven't lived if you've never removed a RWD gearbox, it's a fucking awesome job. :(

I took today off work to make a start on servicing the Land Rover. It needs:- the rest of the service doing (i.e. all the nasty jobs I couldn't be arsed doing today, which probably amount to another day's work)- a bit of welding to the rear crossmember, again- PAS and alternator belts changing - new radiator fitting- investigation of where the oil in the back axle is disappearing to - investigation of where the oil in the air filter housing is coming from- a new cambelt (sometime soon)- hundreds of other jobs that I'll discover whilst doing the aboveAlso, my E23 7 series needs a new flywheel (ugh!), and a new radiator and exhaust fitting - both of which I bought some considerable time ago.I used to think working on cars was fun, but now I'm not so sure. I can tell even the few hours I've done today is going to make me ache like buggery tomorrow!

Sorting out a bit of rust on the bottom of the front wing where the winter salt and grit has blasted away my previous superb effort (red oxide & blue smoothrite). Might even paint it over properly afterwards! As soon as Seth starts his Ford paint coded gaffer tape business, getting some in Amparo Blue and taping up rear bumper

Austin sprite, took engine out 2 years ago to replace release bearing, needs a respray as well, Vanette, been waiting 2 years for me to mot it, might actually happen now as I've just insured it, old Taxi, been waiting about a decade for a bit of welding to boot floor / body mounts and needs a respray, Bristol, been waiting about 5 years for panelling up and a respray, Rover, in dire need of gearbox / overdrive, might do it this week, Austin 1300, weld up hole in sill, been waiting nearly a decade, Saab, needs a once over / mot, probably unviable.I'm not sure that was a good idea to list them all, looks daunting.I have to set a target, time to don the big boy pants and make an adult decision, like whatever isn't done, or well on the way by the end of summer, has to go, no arguments, no more faffing around, they go, time to move on and accept that if it hasn't happened thus far then it probably never will. That's what I say every spring.

This is just a shite job whine. It's 1am and I've just finished removing my oil pressure release valve, which like a cock I forgot to do before putting the engine back in. What would have been a 30 second job with the engine on the floor took nearly an hour of loosening the mounts, removing the alternator, then jacking the engine up a couple of centimetres for clearance.
