The Autoshite holy grail is now one of us!

I can see us at Chumley this year. 40 of us, that Sierra on a plinth, a crap DJ set up with a pair of woeful mahogany* encased speakers blasting every godawful track with the word base in it that we can find.

Then when that twat in the concours competition wanders round we can ambush him and each shout a line from buttery biscuit base at him until he gives up and presents us with a trophy or something. I've not worked that bit out yet.

Needs a DMB dealer set IMHO.

I might buy it one if the crowd fund doesn't happen.

edit. Ghosty beat me to it

Not wishing to jump the gun but if there will be a demand for the DMB graphics plates then I can supply them the correct period artwork for the Busseys/Spruce Howlett dealer plates and dealer stickers. I've even got two Spruce Howlett tax disc holders which I am prepared to donate to the car.

The reason why anybody would buy such a car, IMHO, OS for the challenge of fixing and/or restoring it, steady as she goes, until the next challenge presents itself. Which is a given.

Shite is as shite does. And shite is in the eye of the keyholder.

Hardly any Merkur XR4-TI's left on SoCal roads, so looking forward to the Autoshite pool car collection thread.

P.S. This place ain't as good as it once was.

But it's as good once, as it ever was. [/Toby Keith]

Great work boys! Shame I never spotted it before but there is some great shite parked up in North London.

When is it being collectioned? It will be a proud day for Autoshite.

Given the forum input I think you should fill out the V5 new keeper as 'Autoshite c/o... *whoever it's going to*'

That way this amazing moment is for the ages.

Tomorrow at half eleven. As long as the underwriter accepts that I'm not really famous and give me the policy. It's never been an issue yet, but they were shut when I called the broker at 7pm.

I remember seeing this car on Flickr about 5 years ago but completely forgot about it.

Very excitable.

So, crucially, who's organising the matching 'Sierra 1.6 base' blue fleece jacket and woolly hat combos for the shows then?

Shame again that I can't say anything that's not already been said. I can't contribute any money (I'm officially a housewife now) but tons of time so if I can help out in any other way, particularly swearing I'm the one to call.

Can only agree with how significant a car this is, and how good it is that it's been bought. I must admit, though, I would be torn between bringing it back to mint and keeping it exactly how it is.

Anyway, top work, shiters. Sorry I can't be of much help, but skintness in both money and time are issues at the moment.

Woah guys.  I'm genuinely astounded with the way this story has unraveled - this entire forum thread must be printed and archived in the Sierra Base's eventual history folder too, along with the results from a V888!  You guys are absolute legends.  I've been wincing at the thought of who may acquire this old beast next.  I just had to resurrect my seldom-used forum account to read the full story here - I normally stay within the facebook and flickr circles (Sean Greenwood / SeanRG).

It's been gutting not being able to buy this thing for myself in order to keep it preserved - several people have linked it to me being the MK1 fanatic I am!  Seriously though, the only reason I haven't bought this Base is because last month I bought another MK1 that was heading to the scrapyard.  FYI it's a 'secret Sierra', I don't post about it on facebook because my parents would kill me if they knew I've bought another!!

I know we all love to talk about "someone needs to save that" without doing anything about it (myself included) so it's great to see action being taken. Due to impending redundancy I can't really contribute, but hope to see it in the flesh one day

I've still got my Sierra, don't ask life got in the way! Anyway it started life as a 3 door base, dangly mirrors and possibly a grey grill, hard to tell as the guy who built it got a cossie grill binned the original grill and lights and fiesta style seats and then changed his mind and then realised he was building a sleeper and bought it all again! So colour coded. I picked up some spare parts from a chap reselling his cosworth with a similar base model. And this spare grill actually has paint drip run marks! So I bet that was grey. I love the fact mine is minimal in features it's theme is stripped out and simplicity and light weight though it's an extreme right now while in bits.

This 5 door is a true survivor with real patina and battle scars and clearly a real history, seems like mechanically and structurally is in good shape just the actual shape cosmetically is battered (like my 22 year old daily that's come close to the chopping block each year). Ford and retro tax probably from scene beardy youngsters getting into retro cars has added a digit to prices that and they are a decade closer to being real classics now too. I'd say it's worth £995 but I'd be tempted more if it was much cheaper. Good luck to anyone who gets it it's a special old clunker. Most people won't get it but just needs TLC on the interior really. Would actually suit a props man, that's ripe for 1980's TV drama.

Welcome in/back/along.

I'll be happy to throw in a few pence to keep this alive, disappointed in myself for not having the balls to buy it. (Buying a Nissan Prairie to make up for it)

Ain't gonna happen this year. Deadline has passed and the general consensus seemed to be that folk weren't up for it. We must find other shows at which to do this. Mirrors still attached to wardrobe doors would be a nice touch.

Great result here for Autoshite and for the big dirty stinking Base:
