Have I gone chod blind??

This is a weird situation. The Sierra is up for sale, I have one chap who is keen to swap for things car related such as a Terrano 2.7 dizzler LWB or a TX1 with a short MOT (July) and a slightly leaking steering box (MOT advisory last time). I have another chap (friend of a chap on here) who is a very sound chap who seemingly has Ford Motor Co stamped on his birth certificate as place of birth.

The trouble is after owning over 325 cars in my lifetime I have become car blind. I simply cannot work out what I want next.

The Mitsu is ace and useful. The i10 is well, an i10. The Amazon was a 50th birthday pressie, so will also stay.

The Mitsu needs nowt apart from a reasonable spare. The Amazon needs a wheel arch repair and an MOT.

The i10 needs a rear wash wiper and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I am at a loss.

Theoretical budget of 800 quid and no will to buy something! WTAF

If you don't know what you want then stick with what you've got.

800 should cover all of those.  If there's any left after that, get yourself something really left-field and silly from a fellow Shiter.  We're good at left-field and silly.

325 cars, good effort!

I'm with skattrd, stick with what you've got until something comes along that tickles your fancy... Ooer.

PBK? What's the Sierra like on fuel just out of interest?

Sadly I don't have much in the way of pics. It just wasn't what I did then. Not like now,

Daf, Like em but have owned a few. Spares are available but can be pricey. Maybe one day I'll get another 44.

Billy, the 405 looks ace but the Mitsu can carry stuff, is automatic and comfy. The only difference is that it is petrol powered and a huge diesel load lugger, even a really tidy one like that would be wasted.

Never had a Citroen before. Hmm. Ok, left field and silly! What ya got then Shitters?

Sorry, mpg. Errrm, 50 quid took it from JohnK's place up North a bit and then down to me in North London. Still had a 1/4 tank left, maybe a tad less.

Once the alternator is fixed, my comedy Favorit is back up for grabs and tested til December

Time to look back over the 325 motors, and pick THE ONE.

You've played the field. Now pick the keeper, the one that is YOU.

The one that does it all and does it your way.

The one to drive to the end, till death do you part.

I feel like we're living in a bit of a parrallel universe ken, I too have an auto people carrier in my Sedona, does all the lugging of peeps and stuff, an Atoz, which does the city stuff, small parking etc, and our Lass has a luxo barge Kia Magentis, mile muncher extraordinaire, faultless (ooh and my old transit converting to a motorhome) - but something is missing - yet all my boxes are ticked like a motherfucker in theory!

I was considering posting my own conundrum on here, but you seem to have done it anyway :-D

My thoughts are that maybe I need more horsepower, ranging from considering a diesel auto fire engine, chop all the weight and shit off, and have a camper of sorts with more torque than God, or a quick win and purchase some stock motor, maybe sports car or luxo barge with a massive engine, but not stupidly complex or fragile, so Jag v12's  are out, and I've had one which wasn't much fun to own. I seem to remember Merc do a ladylike coupe with a huge engine that trickles down cheap to shiter level?

just some musings from a chap obviously in the midst of a life crisis :-P

Fuck. The ONE out of the many. Hmm, the 110 Landie, the white Daf 44, the FX4 Taxi, the MGF, the Morris Minor, LWT, Rover 820, the silver EssDeeOne BMW, the BMW 320, 1971 Saab 99 (chrome bumper model).

So, exclusions:

110 - due to cost, the Moggie also due to cost. The MGF due to shit back issues (otherwise my green one would still be here. Taxi - possibly cost/condition. LWT - doesn't belong to me anymore, so that's out.

Maybe's: BMW, Daf..... not sure, kind of going up in cost. Rover 800 series, kind of done Rovers.

Never had's: Merc of any kind, probably out of my price range. Alfa. Citroen. Lexus.

It is a weird nagging feeling. Spot on. Utterly spot on.

This is harder than I thought.

Also, the One cannot do everything I have convinced myself automobiles need to do for me, so that is out of the equation, as I'm sure it is for most shiters - a sports car cannot take a suite to the tip (well, not without some lateral thinking!!), or carry seven adults to a wedding or whatever.

Prices of vehicles are constantly changing, as are spares prices, so the cheapie chod you can pick up locally for a snip this year may be the next sought after classic in five years time after the scrappers have had their fill, and so become conversely comparatively dear to run.

I have come to the conclusion my collection will always be fluid and have to move with the times and fashions (in a kind of opposite direction to the norm), and I will need to be flexible and creative to satisfy my motoring whims, or get a well paid job and plough loads of dosh into buying new or nearly new- and that ain't an option right now

When chod blindness sets in, it can leave you vulnerable to a potentially ruinous condition where you become a Lagunatic.  Many members have been afflicted so far.  Be careful.

there may be some truth in this, where one has purchased chod well, and one's current fleet is not leaving one with a feeling of impending doom when setting off on a journey, short or long!

I must be missing this, hence the illogical desire to purchase some mad shit which will unquestionably ruin me financially and mentally - a state of being I have become happily accustomed to over the years, damn you reliable Korean shite

This.

I really don't know how some of you lot carry on going through cars this quick! I've got to say, how can you possibly own that lovely Sierra and want to swap it for something like an MPV or a Terrano?! Keep it and make it the best it can be. Just my opinion of course.

Dont buy anything if you don't know what you want. Maybe you don't want anything else? I get like that sometimes. It's OK!!!!

Another confused Shiter here too with a 300+ car count ..... I have the daily PT Cruiser an obvious choice and one you may like to consider.... which although bought because everyone hated them continues to delight in ways I am still surprised about, I did over 400 miles in it at the weekend and enjoyed every mile even the Grandchildren were impressed.... I have my two long term projects, Allegro and Austin 1100 and the Saab (just in case) After 35 years I have actually stopped looking for other cars.... and just spent, for me, a small fortune on a Daily!!!!!!

May be its time to consolidate spend some time sorting your present fleet and wait as the "right" car may be not yet ready for you. I am a great believer that cars choose us, a bit like cats.

Have you got a car bucket list of sorts.

I've done a list of:

engines- 3 cylinder, 4 cylinder, 4 cylinder boxer, 5 pot, V6, straight six, V8, Still go to do the V12!!

body styles - 3dr hatch, 5 dr hatch, 4 dr boot, 2dr convertible, 4X4, 4X4 conv

Engine capacity, but that sort of links with engine layout as above.

I dread to think how many cars I've owned over the years, but still to own one with pop up lights.

I've now started to look at the main manufacturers and realised not yet owned a Merc or Volvo, so a 480 would tick two boxes  :-D

It is easy to become bored or jaded with cars, especially when you have had a few! A case of : been there, done that. So, when faced with this situation my advice is to buy something thoroughly fucking horrible that will bore you to tears and make you wish someone would nick it or it would spontaneously combust!

Faced with the above, you will rapidly discover a whole world of cars you are desperate to own!

You've subliminally answered your own question.

Budget is 800?

Answer:  An 800!
