vehicles with just a scrapped marker will still show up on the DVLA with whatever their last tax due date is, its only vehicles that have explicitly been issued a CoD that will vanish off the public facing checker (and those who have been voided ie if it is found you have a ringer etc)

That's interesting, I know of quite a few cars sold to scrap yards that haven't been nuked off the database but show as untaxed on the date of informing the DVLA. Do you know of any free tools that show the scrapped marker in the case of it still appearing on DVLA records?

Aren't all scrapped cars issued with a COD? So literally anything scrapped in past few years shouldn't appear on the record?

they should do, but as you say CoD was only introduced reletively recently, I think around 2005ish? so anything scrapped before then will just have a scrapped marker on it and nothing more, outwardly they just appear as "untaxed tax due xxxx", also cars that are a major write off seem to still get scrapped markers against them when the write off is applied, but no CoD (unless the vehicle is then actually sent to a scrap yard etc)

Not many nice ones left, many you see are absolutely gopping on the ends of the sills, boot floor etc.

Rather like this one I saw in the MOT queue yesterday.

Looks like Mistral Blue or Cuirass? The slightest hint of hose-pipe pressure is going to blow all the blue paint off that used-to-be-black grille.

Best place for that is going round the banger track. Strip the useable bits off and send it on its way!

Beat me to it! Just about to come on here and post that.

Early build, February 1993.

The Ghia estate though……..oh my goodness. April 1993 build so it’s one of the very first. They weren’t launched until August 1993 which would have put them on an L-Plate.

Definitely needs to be saved!

It was in the greengartside data, but didn't have pictures, thanks. It actually has an MOT!

Looks too dark to me to be Cuirass, that was more of a silvery blue IIRC

I think it’s called ‘Petrol Blue’. Here’s a screenshot from a brochure at the time.

Two in my local scrapyard right now, both V6 Ghia-X’s.

The P reg mark 2 in the MOT queue does look very well polished. I've just noticed the Ford badge on the (British Gas Blue) grille is weirdly oversized, like it came off a modern-yo Transit, Ranger or something. I think you're spot on about its colour. Thinking about it, there are some hints of turquoise up the door pillars and on the roof, so it could definitely well be Petrol Blue, well spotted. Nice colour as well, it replaced Cayman Blue on late mk1's in 1995 I think. But FWIW, I've never seen one in Astor Grey or Samakand, I'm sure they were very beige inside, like some of the early mark 4 Fiestas were.

I think the MK2 does show a slightly blander set of colours coming in as it did for all cars in the later 90's, when earlier 90's cars still had a bit more 'cars in colour' about them.

Liked for the great looking scrapyard not the demise of two more Mondeos. I haven't seen a scrappy like that, where you need to take your wellys for years.

This is very true, using Škoda as an example, because it's what I know, the difference between the Favorit and Felicia colour charts is very noticeable. Apart from Pacific blue, a bright blue metallic, it all gets quite subdued.

@Yoss yes, one of the very last ones where you’re allowed to mooch around. Both Mondeos are still here as of this morning.

Makes me think, as I need a new upper window frame on the driver's side, as mine has rust bubbling - as these might be in better nick?

I'm so glad Peter's fallen into good hands now. I used to be absolutely gutted seeing him getting dirtier and more dented when being driven through the agony that is Exeter. Hopefully, it's all forgotten about, and from now on will be onwards and upwards for him. The car's looking fantastic now.

I hope the engine stays standard, so few unmodified 1.6's running about.

Me three! The 90bhp 1.6 is a very quiet unit that suits the mk1's character IMO.

Do you know what's weird? When I had essentially an updated version of this engine in my 2002 Ford Fusion which had a bit more power, it didn't ever feel quite as smooth (although always better after an oil change), can't quite put my finger on why, except the Mondeo, even though it's older had better NVH characteristics.

Did we ever find out where the estate is and is anyone planning on buying it?

I don't know. I've never spoken to Jude Currie so don't know where it is. Obviously it would be as tragic as Eva Green popping round for dinner and not hearing the door bell if it got scrapped.

Wouldn't it just! Should definitely be saved for the nation in some form

@KWhite did you ask on Facebook if it was for sale and/or what they planned to do with it (if anything)

I explained to Jude the significance of the car, how it was probably the only K Plate Estate left and how it had been magazine featured. I'm unsure as to whether or not it is for sale, Jude never said he had spoken to anyone about it when he took the photo.

Trouble is, MK1 Mondeos are still a bit in no-mans land - so there's no club that swoops in and saves them (yet) and maybe there never will be tbh.

What I mean is, if a club could leave a note or knock on the guys door it might have a bit of weight, but otherwise as an individual looking to buy a Mondeo that hasn't moved in a decade, more than likely just get the owner's back up.

If you ever get the opportunity please do ask, although if it's made it this long it's clearly in the hands of a loving owner
