Brodders Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Very nice. Is this one a keeper (once fixed), or are you selling it on again?
Cavcraft Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 I think it's ane SE5, or something like that. Plan is to keep it for a while and just roll round wih my excrement off the freedom from the occurrence or risk of injury, danger, or loss. Brodders 1

vulgalour Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I misread the odometer there, I thought it had done 488k. 188K for a Calibra is pretty good though, normally they've been claimed by rust/lamp posts/tree/moron owner (delete as applicable) long before then! Split_Pin Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Only 8 of the available 16 are required as far as old 4 cyl Vauxhalls go- well played! Cavcraft 1
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Tamoretti sold as well, and to top it off I've just won £120 on a £3 football bet. £120 you say? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Cavalier-LS-TD-Spares-or-Repairs-/252490824422?hash=item3ac9a03ae6:g:8DYAAOSwZVlXpkXA SiC, AMC Rebel, Cavcraft and 1 other 4
Laseraligningfoofooflanges Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 The Good/Bad list is not guaranteed and other Good or Bad bits may be found.
Cavcraft Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 Well, a partial success, I suppose. Rocker cover gasket changed, oil changed, oil filter changed. Engine jet washed, it was unbelievably rammy Left the engine running, it started dropping off so I revved it then it died and won't start again!Try again later or tomorrow methinks. Skizzer and Coprolalia 2
Skizzer Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 'Like' for the cleanage and oil change, not for the not starting again bit, obv. Cavcraft 1
Pillock Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Water in the dizzy? An over enthusiastic mobile valeter once did that to my Polo, drenched the whole engine bay. Got a full refund mind, sent him packing and then WD40'ed the whole lot and left it for a few hours
Cavcraft Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 It'll be something daft I expect, have sprayed penetrating stuff over it, might give it until tomorrow and see what happens when I try again.
fordperv Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 have sprayed penetrating stuff over itLeave you alone with a calibra for 5 minutes fnarr anonymous user, Cavcraft, Station and 3 others 6
RobT Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I've managed to miss this somehow, but the Calibra looks a winner Billy. Reminds me I need to replace the gasket on my 8v Cav, as it's pissing out oil again. Cavcraft 1
Station Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Leave you alone with a calibra for 5 minutes fnarrBrilliant! Deffo distributor full of water. A good way of testing is to place finger tip gently on metal dizzy part with engine running. If the result is you instantly smashing the back of your head on the bonnet catch, it'll be that. beko1987 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Ha! I've just spat my porridge over a now very upset 9 month old child reading that! Station 1

Got a full refund mind, sent him packing and then WD40'ed the whole lot and left it for a few hoursMy brother's mother-in-law had a similar problem after washing her car. It was quite a few years ago when she was recently widowed, her husband had always looked after the cars, so for the first time ever she washed the car (Cavilier Mk2 CD) including the engine. It took quite a while for my brother to dry it all out and get it running. She also got the tar spots off the metallic paint, using a brillo pad. fatharris, Vince70, purplebargeken and 1 other 4
Cavcraft Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 It's all good in the hood now, my lad whizzed the distributor cap off and dried it out. I also used the money earmarked for my wife's birthday present to buy this car, and have 7 days to rectify this situation. I'm also tempted to exchange it for a Transit van or a better MX5. KruJoe Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 What‽After nursing the megahorn for another Calibra for yonks... are you not falling in love with it Billy?

Cavcraft Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Guess what? It's 2 car Saturday today, no new thread because modern-ish.No. 1. Year 2000 1.2, not too bad for one of these and obvs. for saleNo. 2 (how apt) is a stupidly cheap 2005 1.8. I didn't even bother viewing it, the vendor told me the price and I wasn't going to argue. It went from being advertised to being at my house in about 12 hours as it needed recovering because the HG has gone it is believed. Haven't worked out why the roof isn't coming down yet, but that's for another day... Brodders, RobT, Vince70 and 5 others 8
SiC Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 There was a thread on here about one of those roofs not going down. I seem to remember it was something like it's the boot switch or something similar that fails and the roof computer says nope. Cavcraft 1
Dave_Q Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Yeah I remember that one, I'm sure the chap won in the end by swapping some electrical bits in or something, I'm sure it was sutty2006 but my search skillz are letting me down. Cavcraft 1
Dave_Q Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Matty, not Sutty. http://autoshite.com/topic/23284-vauxhall-teccy-help-wanted-tigra-twintop/?hl=%2Btigra+%2Broof+%2Becu Cavcraft 1
Cavcraft Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 I've downloaded a manual for it, there is a 'beeping' sound when you press the button, so power is getting to that if nothing else. I've a feeling (hope, more like) it's something daft that I haven't done like released another catch or whatever.
Jim Bell Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Convertibles in England have more sense than to open after September 30th.Try again in May. anonymous user, DeeJay, Craig the Princess and 1 other 4
SiC Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Lies. The best drive I've had is in a mk1 mx5 with the roof down on a nice crisp, still winters morning with a light frost on the ground. Jim Bell 1
cobblers Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Yeah oversteering off into a hedge is the best way to really enjoy an MX5 billyboy406v6 1
Cavcraft Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Also as that was happening I popped out and bought another convertible SiC, The Moog, Jim Bergerac and 9 others 12
