gordonbennet Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I've always liked twin 5" round headlights, never sexier than when fitted to the front end of 280 Capri. mercrocker 1
mercrocker Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Generally, I prefer round headlamps, especially in twin 5 inch guise (as above!) Really don't like Federal lash-ups like the Peugeot or the stacked Merc "solution" though, and I never took to the XJS with them either. Roundies have to be DESIGNED that way.... pshome 1
mercrocker Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 See! That looks like some hellish kind of safety prototype... Stanky 1
derskine Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Have to say I much prefer the round lamps on mk3 Cortinas. eddyramrod and brownnova 2

Also, this Jaaaag looks even more caddish with one of each... a bit like a tomcat that's been fighting again. Jags look better with the Fish tanks though. I really like them - they're bright too.
MiniMort Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 The escort mk2 had round headlamps on all but the Ghia model however in 1979 they all got rectangular lamps which apparently didn't shine as brightly.

Normally I'm of the opinion that round lights are always better but USDM OMGSAFETY versions of European cars are horrendous and should be round up and burnt or forcibly converted it EU spec.
Alan_Green Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Rover 75 obv. Controversially I prefer facelift square. Probably cos I had one.
Ghosty Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Mk2/3 Capri units are interchangeable aren't they? VW T25. VW Derby?
Des Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Choosing round headlamps should really be as obvious a preference as the current long standing trend toward round wheels. mercrocker 1
vulgalour Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Doesn't seem to matter what they're on, I tend to like both. mercrocker 1
Junkman Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Most definitely better looking with rectangular headlights. Craig the Princess, forddeliveryboy, Magnificent Rustbucket and 3 others 6
sporty-shite Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Alfasud Ti. Round lamps are for winners.

Split_Pin Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I prefer the later Gaz Volgas with the big square lights mainly because they are ugly! Junkman 1

You can swap headlights, grill, bumpers etc to make a mk3 look like a mk2.There was a pic somewhere of a guy in the states who converted his US spec mk2 into a EU spec mk3 using euro parts. I don't think the US got the mk3.
Hertz Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I always thought I preferred the square headlights on the T25 but I now prefer the round ones. mercrocker 1
alfetta Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Saab 99 looks nice with Federal spec lights

xtriple Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Round are for 'sporty' cars whereas square are for 'luxury' cars: Bentley round, Rolls Royce square. The discussion is finished. No need to thank me, oh well, if you must.... Magnificent Rustbucket, eddyramrod and Junkman 3
Tamworthbay Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Round every time, that Peugeot on page one is gorgeous with twin rounds.
Lukas Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 JDM Pajero V20 SWB: EUDM Pajero V20 SWB: I have to say I don´t like the round lights on the JDM-version. It does not suit the styling of the car in my opinion. The square-lights suit it way better I think. Junkman 1
Timewaster Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Ref Pajero vs Shogun I never ever noticed that before. It's so obvious!
