Midlands massive man down

Just think, if it'd been a Zafira it might have caught fire too. So there's that to be thankful for.

Made me lol did that.

News just in...Vauxhall to recall 27,000 dry stone walls.

I'm not sure if subframe or rad support. It's a manual so I'm sure it stalled. I'm going to check everything over when I can. Couldn't see no gouges on the underneath or dents etc but I couldn't view it properly

If it stalled when you filled your pants early on before all the oil fucked off that may be a good thing

Chaseracer and Andy here (well andy on route) but more than welcome to come and point and laugh if you like?

Would join you but I'm working this afternoon.

I'm too far away, too encumbered with children and too useless to be of much assistance but I'm very glad you're not badly hurt.

Be prepared for a sort of crushing malaise of misery to settle in over the next couple of days as the reality of it all hits you.

Shit man, glad your Ok though Bub.

Mate, honestly, don't dwell on it too much. I've had my Merc smashed into some months back and being as bloody minded as I am, I am determined to see it back on the road, or get another Merc...

Determination, and a "fuck it, shit happens" attitude to things going wrong can help.

The Midlands Massive really do help, they've helped me out so many times

I've got a Cheap Xsara Picasso coming in next week mate, Mot until june next year (serviced around the same time).

It is a 1.6 manual with a dented boot and a lot of miles, but I'll be putting a fresh starter motor on it before sale.

This topic is almost as exciting as that interesting baking programme ! Glad your ok !

Horrible. As has been said, sounds unlikely that it'd brake itself, and more likely that the traction control light came on to report scariness in progress. On that sort of a road, you've no room at all to actually do anything about a slide and as you say, knowing a road well is not always a good thing! I'm having to keep reminding myself of that fact as I hoon around Wales on roads that are now very wet and muddy...

Kudos to the Midlands Massive. Hopefully it'll all be alright and just become a good 'down the pub' tale.

Fook! Well done on not getting dead. I don't think the Vectra will be so lucky though...

Good job you were only doing 40mph and not 200mph Bub

Just got home and read progress, I only have internet at home.

Fair play to chaseracer and co ☺

Personally I would try to get some oil in it then drive it. It may not hold water but you can tell if it drives straight within 20 yds and that won't be enough to cook it

Fingers crossed, it looks saveable

Bad luck fella! These country lane are muddy nightmares at the moment, had a 4 wheel drift near miss myself this week. Hope you get it all sorted out ok!

biker friend in hospitla due to shit on roads in ireland 10 broken bones and fractured vertebrae

bub - is this so billy couldnt claim it :D

glad yer mostly ok

you need a aixam or similar no big roads :P

Could you inflate the flat tyre,  fit the spare and tow it on a length of rope?  Would that be enough to tell if it's bent or not?

Big ups to the midlands massive,  one day I'll have spare time again.

Posted

Glad you are ok bub and hope you fix her up ok . Might be worth looking at tyres too . I'd be very surprised if it didn't have jinjus or some other awful Teflon shit on it . Every vectra I see seems to have sub budget tyres on

Posted

The verdict is all vauxhalls are not so shit. New sump, rad and cable ties and she should fight another battle. No damage underneath, looks like it's slid over rocks and down hence taking tyres off the beading.

Posted

Good to know Bub. I really like these Vectras. I know they are 10 a penny but if you've put a lot of work into it, then you know how much it's really worth to you.

Posted

Could the sump be welded or glued together with that stuff in a tube?

Posted

If it's bashed in, I'd change it. Too much risk that the oil pickup is touching the sump.

Posted

I thought you had a Focus auto?? Am sure this would have certainly cured its oil useage issue anyway. Glad your still in one piece and its only your pride thats dented.

80 quid for sump and rad new from ecp. Few cable ties and should be good to go. A big thanks to dave for his towing prowess and Andy for the loan. Means the world to me. Great fellas. And thamks to everyone for well wishes and the giggles too.

I fucking hate them, but am nevertheless glad to hear that this one is apparently saveable.
