I pulled a (totally unintended) wheelie while two up at an indicated 170!  Hit a dip/bump in the road and the front just lifted. I was ashamed at how slow my mind was to react. That was a Yamaha R1...

Did 150 in an XJ-S along Slapton Sands when a stone hit the windscreen wiper and it exploded! Very lucky...

Used to race myself (when I was young) from Looe to the Torpoint ferry with a digital watch strapped on the bars of my LC350 Best time was just over 8 minutes...

Had several GPZ1000RXs (yes, the ugly unloved bastard) and they would do 150 anywhere, any time... so I frequently did...

Did 100 mph on a Husky TE450 on a green lane  and that was scary!  I just wanted to see if I could...

Of course, none of the above is true, just the ramblings of an old man....

Got clocked at 67mph between Barry and St. Athan on my push bike. I was slip streaming a coal lorry going to the power station. I was about 6 inches behind it. My mate from work was in a car behind. Massive adrenaline rush I remember. Stupid young twat. I guess lorries were not restricted then?

Quickest I've been was whilst on run with a few lads over the Denbigh Moors

Get to the end, turn left and head down towards Barmouth on a nice looooong straight

I'm on my Gsxr750,with a mate alongside on his Fzr1000 and we are pulling 140-ish when another lad on a Zzr1100 just breezes past the pair of us......

And he had his mrs on the back...

Quickest trip I've had was back when i had my TL1000s and used to run between Oswestry (N Shropshire)  and Cardenden  (Kirkcaldy,Fife)

310 miles done in a shade over 3hrs 10 mins,including 2 fuel stops

I remember my dad doing an indicated 107mph in his Nissan Bluebird chasing a twat in an Ambassador who'd honked his horn as my dad was trying to park. "Don't tell your mum!"

I remember doing an indicated 110mph as a passenger in a Land Rover Discovery V8 prototype on the same stretch of road. On school work experience! The Hollywood bypass is also where I took my dad's Rover 414 to an indicated ton - my first time being so stupid.

On the M40, I once discovered that a Daewoo Matiz hits the engine limiter at an indicated ton, and that a Dyane at an indicated 90mph scares the shit out of people. Then I got old and sensible and don't think I've ever driven faster than an indicated 80mph since.

I have driven along the autobahn flat out in a vehicle, but sadly that vehicle was a Citroen H van and 60mph was all it had. The speed differential as people hooned up behind us was TERRIFYING.

Whatever speed the limiter comes in on a Honda Blackbird.

An indicated 720 somewhere over the North Atlantic, but there was a hell of a tailwind.  What?  Oh...

I got my clapped out 1.7 Ital estate up to 100 on the M5 once years ago. 4 lads going camping in Devon, egging each other on. It would get up to 90 but would only crack the magic ton with the choke out...

I'm especially proud of 17mph...surfing down the face of a 5m swell in a 7 tonne yacht :)

90 in my 998cc miniMetro was an achievement, but also rather unpleasant. Poor old thing was shaking like a bastard and it made me grimace, but had to be done.

My mate is an awful driver, but freely admits it. He once did 50 in first gear in his Mk4 Escort, which like a chump I subsequently bought off him for 50 quid. But the gearing being so tall meant it would easily cruise at 100 in fifth and it did me a years cheap motoring.

Not done 200 but I've been timed at 187 mph @ Bruntingthorpe.

XJR did 158 (Germany)

E320 CDI 143 (Germany)

I like the acceleration but high speed just makes me shite myself. Too much to go wrong .

I once did EIGHT TIMES the speed limit.

Nothing too exciting. Never had a decent car (performance wise). When I was regularly doing the run from Birmingham to the South Coast I'd feel like I'd let the side down if I hadn't hit a ton at least once. This was in a 1.8 Laguna 1. On one memorable occasion I had the thing loaded down with boxes of heavy shit (we were moving house) and eldest (14 at the time) in the passenger seat, had hit the magic hundred a few times, only to realise that she had been unrestrained the entire journey. Bricks were shat and mothers were never told.

All of this is a mere fruity fiction of course.

The current Wolf barge has a limiter at 100 (which I've never hit officer) and requires revving right up to the redline in each gear and favourable road conditions to even get there.

Bikes are useful at speeding.

Obviously this was on a closed road or private test track.

I once dreamt I was going to work at 6am on a blackbird. Tucked in behind fairings,170 was seen appaerntly. Then i dreamt I shit myself, lifted off and sat up,and nearly had my head ripped off my neck.

Scary thing was, going back home after work in this dream,i had a back tyre blowout at 30. Thank god it wasnt real.....

I'd never try to justify speeding by saying that triple digit speeds are legal in Germany as that's like a paedo saying it's ok to shag 12 year olds as that's legal in Alabama or somewhere.

Oddly, my Sat Nav reckoned it'd clocked up 175mph at some point. I've no idea how or when.

I have done 30mph in a Trojan on solid tyres. Eat that, losers!

40mph in an early Austin Seven, with an SU carb and still with uncoupled brakes is still my ultimate DANGER drive I think. Slowing down was mainly accomplished by aerodynamic drag I think.

120 in a Corsa D, can't really recall why. I think because the speedo ended at 120.

100 in a Yaris 1.0 because I wanted to see if the digital speedo would read in three digits as Toyota said it'd only do 96.

95 in a Dolomite 1850, easily the scariest car to drive fast in. Keeping it in a straight line was a challenge and the crash damaged, multi-coloured Clio in my rear view mirror didn't vanish...

83 in a Dolomite 1300, quite literally the end of the world.

All speeds given are as indicated by the speedo so are probably way off and all driving was carried out on a private race track.

I've done about 80 mph on skis, which is more than I ever managed to get out of my old Lightweight Land Rover. Used less fuel too.

Like I said earlier, that's the scary thing about big bikes, you really don't have to try, you genuinely can do those speeds by accident if you keep it pinned.

The zzr just seems to get more and more stable the faster it goes, guess the blackbird is the same as the fairings start to do their job.

Wheelspin north of 80mph is allegedly very scary too....

unfortunately the LDV speed records are rather higher thanks to the  ESV spec  Sherpa 300 / Daf 400  with 3.5 or 3.9 RV8 ...

I seem to remember the speed perked up on the motorway when the early Peugeot diesel engined ones started to burn their own engine oil through the breathers. Not for long though.

I hear ya, but for me the point is that other drivers on the Autobahn are expecting to see cars at intergalactic speeds and drive accordingly.

And she was 13 anyway (I'm not superstitious)

In dream i had i was going at 130 in a Primera GT 4 up with a boot full of suitcases from Teesside airport in around 1999.

I also had a dream about 150+ in my Jaguar S-type R on my way to work on nightshift.

74mph  was all i could get out of a Peugeot ION on the way back from a hospital run during the night.

I really must stop eating cheese before bed.

^ never mind it won't play, nothing particularly interesting, drove a friend's porsche somewhere on a de restricted autobahn in nordreinwestphalia.

Once managed an indicated 100mph (so probably about 78 then)  in an Opel Rekord estate. At this speed it consumed as much oil as petrol & it died a horrible seizure related death not long after.
