New motor

Thought I'd best get some pics for you fine folk to view of the new motor to replace saxo after clutch failure. Ford focus ghia auto. Saloon no less! 2001 but on a private plate which I think I will keep. Cd multichanger, dark wood effect on doors and dashboard, traction control etc. Think the only options not fitted was the trip computer and electric rear windows. Drives lovely too. Paid £430 for it. Has a broken mirror on passenger side and some flat paint on passenger doors and bonnet. Lady owner but before her was a old couple and old fella passed away and originally started as a motability car. Only issue that's annoying me is the central locking is a pain in the arse. Buttons work fine on back doors and passenger door but not on drivers door. Sometimes it will unlock straight away after locking with button too. If you lock the door with the key it occasionally locks all doors but more often than not only drivers door and passenger door lock only locks that door.

Very nice looking car. Bargain.

No ideas on the C/L, sorry :(

Ghia?  There's posh!

Looks like a very good buy.  I'm thinking these have aged better looks-wise in saloon form than hatch, but maybe that's just me.

Posted

I was never a fan of the focus but a friend bought a hatch back one and I like the interior. This popped up for sale local to me and being an auto I had to look at it. Even has dark wood and a ghia badge on the gear shifter surround.

I don't know why but it seems slightly longer than hers too and she says boot looks larger on this than hers

I think the saloon variant of these looks pleasingly weird. Seems to be in pretty good condition too.

I had a 1.8 diseasel hatch as my first car (well, first car I could actually drive, I had a couple of abortive first cars before it) and I was very fond of it. Handled pretty nicely, very precise steering. The central locking was very bad tempered on mine also. I killed it by skidding it into the central barrier on the a-somethingorother. Poor thing, I'd only had it a month.

Saloon is longer than the hatch - has more overhang. One passed me on the motorway the other day and I had to rethink my views on them. Was never keen when they were new, but compared to what has followed, I reckon they're borderline stylish.

Nice motor

Don't vandalise the speaker grilles in this one!

Posted

Wasn't so much the speaker grilles, more the speakers! There certainly isn't many saloons about Mr wobbler but the few I've seen, mine included seem to have a forward raked stance, high arse. This is the car I mentioned in grin thread, stylish 4 door saloon with ghia badge and auto box. Not many folk would think of a focus!

That looks like a good buy.  We had a hatch for a while in 2004-5.  You do see quite a few saloons in the US, they seem to prefer them over the hatch.  I'm in agreement, I think it's the best shape Focus.

Boot is bigger on the Saloon. Neighbours had a saloon on Mobility a few years back. They could not have the hatchback as the wheel chair would not fit, but went in easily on the saloon.

Currently the wife has an Auto Focus as well, and is really nice to drive, If a little slower off the mark than her previous Scenic.

Ours does a similar thing with the central locking, but its the drivers door affected.

If you use the remote it just opens the doors and then locks them again (as the drivers door does not open). Use the key and the drivers door opens, after driving about 5 mins the car realises that all the doors need to be open and you get the "clunk" as all the doors operate. Central locking then works as it should on all doors.

Have been meaning to get a replacement motor for a while, but other things keep cropping up.......

There is a central locking reset process that I did try on ours with no success, I'll google it in a second.

Cheers

Give this a try, might work for you.

Insert key into ignition and turn to ignition and back 4 times in quick succession.
You will then hear a chime which indicates you are in the central locking programming mode.
remove key and press the lock and unlock (although I only needed to press the lock) button on the remote.
You will then here another chime and it should be done.

Thank you mate but already tried that. Sometimes it will lock all doors on key,but often not. When it locks and unlocks on key and you press buttons it locks then unlocks again. I disconnected drivers door module and tried locking it with buttons and worked on other doors ok. That would mean drivers door faulty? I disconnected passenger door too and tried it and only back doors locked.

Very nice! Will it last until christmas though? Least its an auto, should help you out if it doesnt shit its clutch through a spark plug or something! Leave the flat paibt, you know what happens when you fix something non critical...

Don't normally like black cars, nor the saloon Focus, but that looks the dogs danglers, well trousered sir.

Always fancied a 2 litre ST estate one of these, rare as hens teeth mind.

I hope it does mate. I've had a real bad run of luck. This has mot til April and I've done 400 mile since buying it a couple of days ago and had no issues. It even towed the saxo from matlock with no issues. Want to find someone who will do a cambelt, waterpump and atf change on it. Can't really do major jobs at shared house!

Thanks. It could do with paint tarting up in places and some rust on th inside bottom edges of a couple of doors.

I had a 2001 Ghia Saloon in Tddi flavour. Bought for £460 with 6 months T&T and 110,000 on the clock. Ran faultlessly for 18 months and another 16,000 miles. Sold it on and as far as I know it survived for another few years as an "isles car". Up here if you live on an outer island (i.e. not mainland Shetland) then your car is exempt from having to have an MoT.

I went kind of mad with the interior colour coding and even went as far as getting a Focus RS steering wheel and gearknob, a plastic welded single DIN centre console and blue leds everywhere.

I have a friend in California who sent me over some US spec parts hence the Focus Central aluminium heater controls and US front grille

That interior is a bit much!

That's a lot of blue! Wouldn't mind a diesel but prefer an auto. Do like the heater controls but doubt they would suit the "classy" interior!

Jesus, that interior shot should come with a content warning.

IIRC the saloons were only ever avaliable in Ghia flavour as they reconned such buyers to be more discerning/ richer than yeaow. Top purchasing!

Good knowledge there, I never ever noticed that but now you mention it I think all saloons are Ghia's

I know of a x plate ghia 1.6 saloon, also know a 1.6 hatch on a x plate and a w plate hatch ghia too. Also a friend used have a diesel estate ghia so they do all shapes and flavours. Thanks all for the nice comments. Whoever coming to looms on Saturday can have a play if they like. Saxo is a 1.4 furio. Tu3 I think. 8 valve engine that's basically the same 1360 lump from 80s?

Sorry, misread the post about ghia saloons. I thought it said all ghia where saloons not all saloons where ghia!

Buying unknown quantity car after unknown quantity car doesn't work, stick with one car!
