^^ WHS ^^ Mind you I visit the house version of this all the time; i mean I'm fully prepared to live in a certain amount of squalor, but the stuff i see would make your hair curl.

Some people are either dirty or lazy fuckers. Or both.

Just looking at the photies, am I the only one who'd relish a go at doing a full on clean up job....apart from Mr Vulgarlounge? You know, little toothbrushes, get inside the airvents.....

I need to get out moar.

The before and afters would be good. That carpet would be hard work, took me hours on mine and no way was it like that when i got it.

I think it'll be a carpet out job to clean them properly, luckily it's not a daily and has been moved nearer the local workshop so it'll make life easier.

Need to investigate a knocking noise at the front too.

I used to be a dealership valeter and I've just some a similar job on my dads manky taxi with 125K miles of crap in it, it was minging and I thought I'd relish cleaning it and get a sense of achievement from it, I did, but I also got the urge to sleep for 3 days as I was so fucked from doing it. That said that ZT made it look showroom condition before I started.

I've seen a lot of properly filthy cars in my time but that has to bee one of if not the worst I've ever seen.

The rubber is in the door card, the 75's have an issue with clutch master cylinders leaking, causing the pedal rubbers to slip off!

From UrbanDictionary:

TOP DEFINITION

bucket shot

A clear view of a womans vagina(her bucket), whether clothed or not, you may or may not be able to see her Moose Knuckle (Can.)or Camel Toe(U.S.) you have a ¡^full bucket shot^^.

You can fuck right off, she's mad enough about me buying this car!

Aaah, Vulgavelour does a much classier take on the bucket shot involving, well, buckets. Of dirty water. And nobody's minge.

Probably that puppy stuck in the front axle.

Unsurprisingly, he was selling it to pay for rent, hence the low price. As I saw it, it's a good motor that's just been run into the ground, but not unsaveable. May take some time, but it will get there, and be more satisfying for it at the end.

Surprisingly, the car was blue underneath.

However, this weird grainy, gritty brown stuff would not come off the rear bumper, so it'll have to be clayed off.

5GwJXqw.jpg

The dirt hid a manner of all defects, most notably this:

NtGhuPn.jpg

How the hell I missed it, I'll never know.

5TUf6Cq.jpg

Did come up pretty clean though, HermanTheGerman in the background.

5JI7U1F.jpg

xVaqnWV.jpg

Moderately shiny.

OGgYLIQ.jpg

Another minor scrape, this time on the N/S/R arch. Not sure if I'll bother doing anything major to it.

7LryMvv.jpg

Once cleaned, it was time to get rooting through the boot, it was one of the areas I didn't get a chance to inspect at all, on account of all the crap in there. All the stuff behind was what was in there, the boot carpet had to be binned because a massive hole was cut out for a subwoofer. There was also a used diesel pump in there, which raised suspicions.

With the main bits of crap out, the smaller bits of gash could be removed, including a now-empty punctured can of Fosters, a bottle of what I can only assume to be piss and various other bits of debris.

EpS7I8z.jpg

....but wait, what's this?

VcMGYUG.jpg

Surely somebody can't be that stupid to leave a flapping wire conn....

Oeg0RxO.jpg

.....oh.

The answer was simple, any waste wiring gets pulled and binned.

VrOKZM2.jpg

Which leads to this little fella, he wasn't connected to anything behind the dash and ran to under the rear window, any ideas?

Answers on a postcard.

Next job was to tidy up the tow bar wiring, which had been haphazardly unrestrained.

KTzw3ix.jpg

Some wax string to tie it up, some efwrap to prevent it from chafing, et voila:

Dirty:

Clean:

IEILwN8.jpg

The seals were a pain in the arse.

dKpBD0r.jpg

BXUofLr.jpg

The baked on crap came off the wheel badges well enough, have a half/half comparison.

YoB5tai.jpg

Crap under the rear bench

Drivers' footwell carpet:

Halfway through:

BGjYl98.jpg

Done. There's a hole so I'll look into sourcing a decent 2nd hand replacement.

Passenger footwell:

iMa1Ahi.jpg

And after, the carpet will either need to be removed for pressure washing or replaced.

vgIVnBn.jpg

On the plus side, there was no hesitation or stalling today, the airbag light turned itself off, and the car tipped me for a fine days' work:

This thread will probably turn into a project thread. Given the rough as balls nature of this particular motor and the probable likelihood of this seeing the crusher if I hadn't bought it, I think I'll call it Project Last Chance Saloon.

Cheers.

How can anyone let a car get in such a mess? I'd hate to see what the previous owner's house looks like.

PCV valve chock full o'shite. Good clean before parting with any ££££.

Posted

Never understood why people seem to treat a car like a skip. It looks like the local binmen have been making deliveries.

As others have said - would hate to see the P/O's house!

Still, I reckon the car has potential though a good used interior might be a start once the thing is running right.

The shot of the PCB with the obviously DIY soldered non-SM resistor on it - that's not one of those famous OMGTuningResistors that you get off ebay for £1 that magically transform your car into a super-speed machine is it?

I should have taken a picture of the other end - Two spade connectors and two one-band 3.5mm male headphone connectors. All the DAB connectors I've seen are small threaded connectors.

I would have run away from this example as fast as possible, but it's looking much better already, GR8 work.

Today, a ramp became available:

All hail hovercar.

22Ax6BN.jpg

Purpose of this was to check for the knocking noise when steering and check the brakes. Offside looked fine...

PknqsDw.jpg

The nearside....oh dear oh dear.

sAlb2G2.jpg

That'll need replacing then.

There's definitely been something scrubbing on the shock though

c3ZIlSG.jpg

And the ARB link was ballbagged. Also found the lower balljoint is shagged too, but I think I can only change the wishbone.

YZnVnc7.jpg

Bit of chafing on the wiring, added to the to-do list.

JzvjQJQ.jpg

As are replacing the wheel arch trims and sourcing an undertray.

KMWYHA5.jpg

With the shopping list growing, I tackled the dent in the OSF wing. Surprised the wing hadn't rotted out with this dirt/moisture trap behind the liner.

KMWYHA5.jpg

Sound deadening consisting of a sponge in a plastic bag. As the bag had ripped at the bottom where all the moisture collects, I reinstalled it upside down so no moisture can get in.

hzynyNd.jpg

The dirt pile, excluding the handfuls I lobbed outside.

Cy77koS.jpg

Cleaned out!

thtj6sp.jpg

Wing off, showing a dirty cavity (oo-er!)

After:

A clean crevice is a happy crevice!

I did take a picture of the dent, but it hasn't shown up well, it's shown elsewhere in the topic.

gJjS5ty.jpg

Trim edge removed, taken outside and cleaned:

sPE9SDr.jpg

E0hB8YA.jpg

After a bit of twatting about, this was the best I could get, gone from a big dent to a little supermarket dink

VWW8G6j.jpg

Wing back on and lined up properly to stop the edge meeting the bonnet.

WqIIqWI.jpg

And parked up for the night, the silver 220D is MrsHarris' :D

Sorry it's a small update, but work has been manic!

Holy shit. Errrm, well. It's a nice blue isn't it.

Please take the carpet out and fumigate the fucker.

All of that wiring scared me very badly.

Hat off to you for taking such a beastie on. At least you have access to a workshop and mechanical skillz.

At least one positive thing has occurred out of all this. It makes me realise how little is needed on the Oldsmobile.

Great thread, keep going!

Posted

that is a nice  motor, now you have removed the 2 metric tonnes of shit from the interior, and 3 miles of redundant diy* wiring.

the wires behind the radio would give me nightmares too.

its nice to see this getting some love, trophy blue is a bonny colour, just a shame the drivers seat is such a mess.

Gotta get yourself a crash damaged saloon from the scrapyard and swap the whole interior, save time and limit the infection risk.
