Bentley Turbo R total shite! Now, Brooklands 'R' turbo shite....

While I appreciate this will never be a "daily", it may be useful to keep a record of the running costs to compare to having a modern.

Apart from fuel, I suspect this may be a bit of a bargain.

I too must doff my cap to you with the rest of the masses here for what looks like a super purchase, and as so many others have said a car I would love to one day own!!

You might find friends you haven't seen in ages saying.... Can you take my kid to the prom, my sisters getting married and.... My granny's died and the funeral company is expensive etc....

I saw one like THIS >>

... going north on the A1 yesterday, near Morpeth.

Just spotting the 'Derby Dustbin' had me thinking of you.... I was more taken with why anyone would want to have a car painted like a Simca 1100

I thought that was Land Rovers?!

That's a thought - maybe Ruffgeezer could knock up a "I say, chaps: OLLI, what what?" sticker for sir's turbocharged gentlemen's club...

Excellent buy.

A mate of mine has had one for a few years. He's spent a lot on maintenance but it's served him well. He's now considering splashing out on an expensive paint job (apparently it's not perfect but I've never noticed).

I helped him out by driving it to Wales the other weekend. That was a fun road trip...

Autoshite has just moved up a gear!

Fear not - the clutch still slips and the body's full of structural wob.

Think I'll forget the private plate then seeing as you lot are against it and seem to be talking sense (what happened?).  The wheels on the BTR above are the ones I really like and I wouldn't mind a set of those in the slightest! Tyres are cheaper apparently if justification is needed...

Got a slight case of 'buyers remorse' this morning having spent all night dreaming of all things Bentley, this morning I'm thinking of all the things that can go wrong with all things Bentley! But, fuck it, you're a long time dead and I'd rather regret having the car and being skint than forever dreaming that I could have actually had one.

Struggling to find a garage though. I have asked everyone I know and have the grand sum of two leads. Waiting on news from them but I'm not hopeful. I really don't want it to live out on the road (not least because of the size of the bastard!) as parking here is horrid and while I get on with most folk round here (now that the miserable cunt next door has fucked off) there's bound to be some cock faced bastard that takes exception to a Bentley even if it did cost less than the repmobile parked behind it!

I shall keep on looking...

I take it these weren't modelled around when Leech Homes calculated the size of garages...

Dream come true. And I even have a spare garage. Free...and I will even take it for a run occasionally for you. DAMN....why don't you live near me  :-(

Do these even fit in a garage? I would have thought an aircraft hangar would just about do it. Have you tried putting a card in the loacl newsagent's window asking if anyone has a heated motorhouse to rent.

That is the next option to explore. I am currently canvassing my rich friends to see if any of them can be persuaded... but they don't need the money so got to love me!

When I had mine , my stuck up sister in law was more than happy to have it in her garage over winter, every other car we've ever had has been looked down upon by her, but it was quite amusing how often her garage door was left open with just a glimpse of Bentley grille visible to the village idiots.

EFA

Joking apart, it's good to see that a fellow 'shitter has finally bought his dream car. But I can't help thinking that the AS way of spending £9K on luxury motoring would be to buy 20 Rover 75s (5 K-series with HGF, 5 diesels with a borked clutch slave cylinder, 5 KV6s with overdue timing belts and 5 others with an unknown, "lucky dip" fault that may or may not lead to catastrophic failure) !

Your grace, i have a guaranteed solution to buyers remorse with regard to the bentley........

take it out for a drive even if its just to get a pint of milk.

end result - 1 mile down the road a big mile on your face and a feeling of enormous well being that will stay with you for the rest of the day.

My FE Victor barely fits in my lockup, and by modern standards that's not even a big car. It's so tight it was a right PITA reversing in, and of course I clipped the bumper corner on the garage door frame. I think anything bigger than a Montego or Cavalier is pushing it a bit in most of them.

A private plate should only be considered if it's a seriously good dateless one (something like 1 ABC) and if you get some plates made up in the pre-2001 font for that old money look. That would be fantastic.

my kid sister bought a new house with a detached garage, a few years ago, she at the time had a mark 1 ford focus.

she could hardly get that through the garage door never mind get the car into the garage, and then open the door and then get out....

the chances of a proper bentley fitting in a normal garage, is nigh on impossible.

It's true, domestic garages won't accommodate this beauty.  You're going to need some kind of industrial unit.

The garage problem is the reason I didn't get one a few years ago. Merc SL only fitted if the nose was rubbing on the end wall, Bentley is 3 feet longer!

This is the problem I have with the Mercury. There's no chance it'll fit in any sort of garage unless it's an exceptionally large one. Sadly it's got to live outside but I keep it regularly washed and polished then covered under a good quality weatherproof car cover. It's the best I can do and better than leaving it out in the rain.

There's no way in hell I'd ever leave it out in the street anywhere though, even outside my own house. Cars like these will attract tossers and unwanted attention.

My garage at home accommodates the Mk3 Granada fine, but a brown S2 XJ6 will struggle to fit (which is why I'm being a fanny and haven't bought it, yet). So yes, you'll definitely need a double garage/aircraft hangar to house the Bentley!

Posted

Years ago I used to rent a larger than average council lockup in Norwich which would just fit a '76 Cadillac Seville - back bumper against the wall, there was about an inch between the front bumper and the door, and just about room to squeeze out the driver's door.  Would imagine a Bentley might be slightly larger though, so probably not a lot of help.

Two solutions; a) move, b ) respray

Do you live anywhere near Cardington?

My Rolls fits in our garage just fine. It is a double but fits in one side no problem. These are standard garages on a new build estate. Every house got one but very few actually use them to keep a car in. They all park on the fucking road which annoys the hell out of me.
