Taff Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I can't be the only one who's shite has to live from payday to payday, especially as I have two projects and one daily. "adopts a Jesse fro the Fast Show accent" This month I have mostly been buying X1/9 rear brakes, two tyres for an MGF and a carb damper for the Galaxie all three cars need loads, but priorities... How about you? eddyramrod 1

mercrocker Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I probably buy something for one of the fleet every month. This month it will be a new dizzy cap for the 190E, last month I got off lightly but next month I will probably have to investigate getting the Pooburg carb on the T25 sorted out. That means nothing done on the Minor or the Cowley which are together clocking up more miles than the other two. So something will no doubt break on one of those soon....Oh and the barn space rent is due (six monthly in advance). Which reminds me there is a complete interior for the Cowley up there but I need some floor covering before that goes in.
beko1987 Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Yep! The meriva desperatly needs a new exhaust and drop links for the mot. Was going to do that this month but no chance now. Should get it 2 new tyres soon, if we get no snow theyll be fine until feb (their on the back, ones had a tiny nail in for well over a year, the other is a bit bald right on the outer edge from when it was on the front before we got the tracking done) Should be able to get some work done on the zx, mainly because I can pay the chap with a slab of strongbow...
dollywobbler Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I'm quite keen to actually buy some parts for the Dyane, rather than keep robbing bits from the poor 2CV. The XM's spheres took many paydays to actually get purchased. About eight months in fact.
mouseflakes Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I needed to replace the front wheel bearings on my Delica so 'spread the cost' by buying them one side at a time over a couple of months. Sad isn't it?
vulgalour Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 hahaha, payday. I don't have a payday. Self-employed income really keeps you on your toes. Bren and Skizzer 2
Christine Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 hahaha, payday. I don't have a payday. Self-employed income really keeps you on your toes.Me too , but good sailors sail close to the wind.. ya muddle through tho..
Six-cylinder Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 We all have to pace ourselves, I have a list as long as my arm of things to do but can only afford to do a certain amount in any month.
captain_70s Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 My pay just switched from weekly to monthly, so I now have one weeks wages to live off this month. Good think I phoned the bank and extended my overdraft, thankfully TESCO Value noodles are 25p so I might be able to afford to rehang the 1300's exhaust... eddyramrod and Bren 2
vulgalour Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Morrison's value noodles are 9p. Or at least they used to be not so very long ago. Very useful knowing that at the time too.
Taff Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 I needed to replace the front wheel bearings on my Delica so 'spread the cost' by buying them one side at a time over a couple of months. Sad isn't it? my front tyres were the same, shoved £40 into my sock draw last ,month and another £40 this month.
purplebargeken Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Same as everyone, sigh. Come on you Lotto bastard. LabRat, beko1987 and eddyramrod 3

fordperv Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Everyone is in a similar boat one way or another, but imagine if you had to pay arnie clarkes every month on top chaseracer, Uncle Jimmy and Richard 3
babydriver Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 My Herald project has seen another summer come and go without a kiss from a spanner or welding torch, No funds=no fun. Yes roll on the Lottery win
gm Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I celebrated pay weekend by purchasing 3 x 5l of 10w40 semi synthetic oil off carparts4less, a snip at £30 delivered. check me out living the high life ! oldcars 1
John F Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 This month has cost me £520 in thieving bastard road tax (Disco & MX5), plus a fairly reasonable £26 for two new Disco tyres fitting & balancing at the local taxi tyre fitters. Disco & MX5 both have MOT this month, the weldathon on the MX's chassis rails starts tomorrow
anonymous user Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Everyone is in a similar boat one way or another,I just wish mine was a luxury ocean going yacht in the Seychelles instead of a leaky pedalo on a shopping trolley riddled polluted canal chaseracer 1
4wheeledstool Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 If there's any cash left the day before payday, it WILL be spunked on my chod.
Lord Sterling Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I don't often get a payday. When I do, it gets spunked on bills so my cars always lose out. There will be a time when I can use cash to get them on the road, but when, I have no idea.
Bear Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I'm self employed, freelance, and disorganised. Payday and bills both catch me by surprise. In fairness though, because I have covered storage, good tools and don't need to commute to work, the car spending can be well controlled. It's worth remembering that whilst the SLK has had a lot done since it first developed a misfire, it has taken me a year to do all the bits - when if I needed it to be transport, I would have found it hard to find the probably around £500 or so of parts and the whole-day-doing-nothing-else to fix it. I used to be of the mindset that for my daily, the best value was to run a lease car. After all the time with the SLK, and knowing that mileage aside, the car would quite happily have done 20-30,000 miles with the maintenance I give it without any problems, I'm less attached to that idea. Doesn't mean I've gone off finance for cars, it's just that yes, I can lease a £32,000 SLK for just £214/month (and 6x deposit) for 3 years, but I would rather finance the whole £32K and get a Morgan 4/4 or Plus 4 to last me 30 years, and for the day-to-day hacking about a £500 "whatever" will do.And now I'm just figuring a couple of hundred a month flung at the XJS without any pressure will get me a car which is the equal - may even be technically superior - of a Bentley Continental T, a car I always held as a dream car.Whilst I have the MGF too, even the SLK gets to retain the 'never driven in winter/on salted roads/if it's raining when I leave' luxury that has allowed it to remain fairly static in condition. Aside, though - if I had paid a specialist to work on the SLK, I'd be looking at £2K in repairs I reckon. Cam solenoid diagnosis and replacement, repair K40 relay, replace cam sensor, 3 full services, rear dampers, front coils, steering damper, new radio, PCV system rebuild with new inlet manifold gaskets, fuel filter and hoses, various rubber body seals... anonymous user and Vince70 2
Bear Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 two tyres for an MGF Sounds like a fair swap. Jim Bell 1
beko1987 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Ive worked out the plan of action for the meriva... Tyres first. The exhaust next (although it may squeak through as an advisory), them the front clonking can be an advisory and ill fix it another day... Hopefully this year, as it wont be pissing oil all over the workshop floor with me running around after it with a roll of blue towel it may help its pass.. Ive got until november the 24th. Means ill have to take it to work, I fugging hate driving it... Wonder if amy will meet me at mums and drive it for me, is that a bit crap though?
chaseracer Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I'm self employed, freelance, and disorganised. Payday and bills both catch me by surprise... Couldn't you just disconnect the speedo cable on one of Keef's motors and use that? Bear 1
Uncle Jimmy Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Pay day is better than no pay day! With my job, I sometimes do quite well but it can go quiet and then I'm back at square one selling my possessions on ebay.Just done cambelt, oil, fuel, air filters on T4....All good but found out that the inner drive shaft gaiters are non existent and most of the front suspension bushes are shot, goes in to have it all done tomorrow.😨
Bear Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Couldn't you just disconnect the speedo cable on one of Keef's motors and use that? Delta's not MOTd at present - when it is MOTd, and the weather is good, it does get the occasional run because that's better than it just sitting. Twingo needs a head gasket. The Rover 214 isn't for driving - it's waiting to go overseas, and it only has 30-odd thousand on the clock - I wouldn't want to use it and put miles on it, it's much too clean. He has offered the use of cars when mine have played up though, like belting about in the Avantime. Nearly bought it, I liked it so much. Really need to thin the collection a bit. The A-class is just scrap almost, yet it's still MOTd and it has nice things like the full-length sunroof. Keep thinking I'll have another go at attacking the front strut/driveshaft to get the ABS ring replaced.
Tetleysmooth Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I bought a new (for new, see secondhand, ebay) doorlock/catch for my V70 this month. Don't know whether it's any good or not, haven't fitted the fecker yet.
New POD Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 hahaha, payday. I don't have a payday. Self-employed income really keeps you on your toes. Last but one contract was paying weekly 4 weeks in arrears as long as the invoice was undisputed, and I went straight into a contract paying weekly 1 week in arrears, so for 4 weeks I had double money coming in, Yeah hey then I went into a contract where I waited 8 weeks to start (issues with security clearance and Christmas) and then they accept invoices monthly, and pay a month in arrears, so it was 16 weeks between pay, and just before you get paid you know that if the customer goes tits up that's 8 weeks money lost forever.
