What do you keep in your car, for emergencies?

In the i10 there is as follows:

A spray bottle of demon Shine, cotton buds, a pair of reading glasses and a book.

There is also a space saver tyre thingy and sufficient shite to change wheel.

Small bottle of water

In the jaguar nothing but a stiff upper lip.

In the Mgf some pre mixed oat antifreeze.

Both cars covered on recovery so mobile phones taken with us.

In the C4 VTS a jack & spare wheel, also a time expired self breathaliser left over from French trip.

In the XM nothing as if anything goes wrong I won't be able to fix it by the roadside.

I note that nobody has admitted to carrying a small, pearl-handled, revolver.

One essential that I forgot, as it's not in the car but in my wallet, is my "get out of jail free" card.

After reading this thread earlier today, I've upgraded my broken torch to one that game free with a Junior Bank Account.

Blasting out 1 candle power or so. I've also cobbled together a first aid kit comprising of two sticky plasters, a roll of gauze  and a razor blade.

The only thing in the Cherry that's there for emergencies is a phone charger.

The Disco still contains a gallon of water and a few tools from before the radiator was fixed but will be back down to just wheel changing stuff when I get round to clearing it out.

Austin will carry a few tools if I ever get it back on the road

You joke, but sadly many of my neighbours carry exactly that.

I have a soft sided tool bag with tape, cable ties, fuses, bulbs, hi viz, screwdrivers and pliers.   If going on a long journey i will throw in oil, ATF and water.

A wig, false beard and sunglasses, SMALL WHITE DOG in case I have to TAKE PHOTOGRAPH.

Actually, I've got a can of diesel and a can of petrol in the Vectra. The petrol is for when I view a cheap shit car with hardly any fuel in it, so I can tip it in, then go home for my bike.

On top of that I have jump leads, one of those towing poles with a  shock absorber thing on it, some tow rope and various bunjee cords to tie cycles to the rack.

I carry a spare engine, just in case.

Neil's phone number- he was bastard enough to wake me up for collecshun so what comes around can go around!

Posted

A bag of chips and a Kebab.

A bag of spare marbles in case I lose mine.

Some cardboard.

tow rope

jump leads

glow sticks

survival blankets

gas stove, tea, water, sugar, powdered milk

rac card

Apart from the obvious jack and wheel brace I only tend to carry jump leads a blanket and ratchet straps. Providing I've got plenty of bacca I can cope with a lot.

Nothing, I don't even know if the spare wheel/toolkit is present or usable. Used to carry all sorts for the first 4 or 5 cars, but it would get bundled together and dumped in a bag, when trading in and forgotten about for months.

Full complement of carpenters tools, well I am going to work, no room for spanners and all that car crap.

Gaffer tape, prostiute, hammer, shovel  Sorry, mis-understood the thread. I used to carry loads of bits & pieces in a huge tool box, together with a hydraulic jack, stands etc. When petrol prices when stratospheric a year or so ago I cleared it all out & saved a fair bit in fule costs. I've never needed it since and now carry a fire extinguiser, a box containing bulbs, fuses & relays, a spare fan belt & a litre of 10W/40 GTX Magnetec.

Carrying the fan belt's a waste of time as I don't carry the tools to fit it!

I did actually find a belt in the seat pocket; for the alternator I think. I'll let the AA man fit it.

I wasn't going to reply to this thread as it reminds me that I have become rather OCD about it. Each car has a basic tool roll, socket set, spare fanbelts, bulbs, hoses, gaffer tape, cable ties, wire, voltmeter, full set of ignition components (the last good set - I replace stuff regularly and keep the proven old stuff rather than carry potentially dodgy new stuff), jack and good wheel brace (in neither case do I rely on the factory shit), bottles of water, oil, coolant, brake fluid, window cleaner, de-icer, latex gloves. Etc. I also really hate shit rolling and rattling around so its packed with towels round it and bungee tied (or cable tied in the case of rarely needed items). Some of it is stored in the spare wheel..

The trouble is it doesn't help the luggage accommodation space (especially in the Minor).....

Mrs Rocker also sees fit to ensure that there is a shopping basket, umbrella and spare girly shoes in each car.

I recently drove the Minor back about 40 miles from the bodyshop completely stripped out and worried all the way back that something would happen that required an article of the shite that was still in the shed at home.

This thread has reminded me to chuck the locking wheel nut key into my box of assorted rammel in the boot. It would have been embarrassing/frustrating had I picked up a puncture and not been able to get the wheel off! I'll put this down to the recent novelty of having wheels worth stealing!

Apart from that I have a foot pump, extinguisher which is permanently right on the cusp of being overpressurised (and will probably rupture one hot day), a small socket set, 10/13mm spanner, tow rope, hi-vis vest, bottle of water and jump leads.

I'm pleased to report that most of that stuff has been used at least once in the last 2 years. Always on other peoples (much newer) cars, but its good being the guy who had all the useful stuff in his 'shit old car'.
