Driving to work today I saw one of these....

Now despite or because of its reputation I quite like Freelanders especially the 3 doors but in yellow yeuch just wrong wrong wrong ..... What cars would you like if only it wasn't "that" colour???

I quite like that freelander in yellow (runs away and hides behind the sofa)

Just tell people it's Eddie Jordan's car from the Jordan F1 Benson & Hedges years for KUDOS.

Say it with a straight face and people will believe anything. My colleague at work still believes I was the Evening Standard young comedian of the year 1994.

I like the yellow Freelander. However, I always thought solid red was a ridiculous colour for a Jaguar XJ40.

I don't find that offensive. Nor do I this:

In fact, for an inappropriate colour, I think it suits it.

Any car.

Any colour.

Im really not arsed. Except pink.

I wear pink shirts, but wont drive a pink car, it would be too much like sitting inside a penis.

Pretty much any modern car in a solid (non-metallic) colour.

I used to dislike white on any car. After a couple of white 'uns its really grown on me. A pet hate used to be a white porsche 928 or late 80s supra, but now I think they look period perfect.

Some late 90's funky at the time hues seem not to have aged well though. Eg a sort of metallic urine vauxhall colour

White on white is for WINNERS

Silver is vile on almost everything.

But 1st choice for a mk2 Cortina.

It's not silver.  These are all silver except for the black ones and this single turquoise one.

It's not red or white, that's just weird.

I like cars in the wrong* colour, it makes them more interesting.

Carlton excepted, all of the above cars are entirely to my taste :)

Actually, your red Volvo looks the wrong colour.  It's a nice looking car and a great colour, no doubt, but it's not a very Volvo look, if you follow?

They should be khaki, with POLIZIA or CARABINIERI down the sides.

I'm not sure there is a wrong colour if it's the right car, even pink, (says the man who seriously considered a Suzuki Vitara Rossini). If I was lucky enough to find a usable Bristol 407 at a price I could afford I wouldn't give a damn about the colour.

Us Shiters by our very nature tend to be lumbered with whatever colour the only car we want is available at the time is in, so like many others I'm not arsed. I'd quite like to try a Peugeot in a colour that's not red as I've had 4 red uns thus far.

Only car I think ever looks wrong in a certain colour is ferraris in the boring unimaginative red they all get lumbered with. They should be any other colour, especially pale metallic blue (mainly for the proper classic ones). Thankfully I don't have the money or interest in the marque to ever worry about trying to find one in the right hue

I know what you mean; I imagine most 1990 model year 740s made around the same time as The Volvo are/were silver, dark grey or dark blue.

All colours are wrong for every car, except one. The one you like on a specific car. And that depends on your personal perception.

So you will naturally develop a track record of driving the right cars in the wrong colours.

Well, yeah OK, if someone pitched up with a nice useable Austin 1300 or Triumph Stag in pink, for the right price, then yes Id buy it. But I'd probably rattle can it before I drove it.

Apart from pink, and perhaps boring silver, I'm not too bothered. However, a car can look loads better in the right colour, or combination of colours. I'm a sucker for nice two tone paintwork like this

And it's a moving target. The colours you liked in your 20's are not what you'll like in your 40's, 50's or 60's. Years ago I lusted after a 1998ish Mazda 323 in metallic green. Now that's the last colour I'd choose. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-323-4-Door-1-5-Petrol-7-months-MOT-/121696516017?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1c55ad77b1

Apologies, but that Freelander is the best looking Freelander I've ever seen. Perfect for a sunny climate. Very jolly. A friend had a bright red convertible FL in a hot country and that looked epic.

Edit - Actually the Freelander looks great on my phone but a bit yeuch on my laptop. Will check on a calibrated screen tomorrow and report back.

I think yellow works on any car really because it's such an absurd colour to put on a car there's no point taking it as a serious choice so you might as well point and laugh regardless of what it's been sprayed onto. Mind you this is coming from someone that wants a multicoloured Volkswagen so pinch of salt all-round I reckon.

I'd happily drive a pink car, but it has to be the right kind of pink.  I don't want to look like a chaffeur for shitty hen nights and proms when I'm just off to the shops for tea and biscuits.
