How's your car coping with the weather?

My Alfa has reminded me why I'm not keen on leather seats. Very sweaty. Also my aircon is not up to the task. I persevered for a while until I felt like I was suffocating so then had all the windows down which was much nicer. Also nice to see the temp up to the 90 or so it should be as it usually runs at 75ish. Tomorrow is likely to be the hottest day ever recorded in the UK according to the news. How's your chod holding up?

My Suzuki Baleno GSR doesn't have aircon, although it was an option when it was new.  The temperature gauge is absolutely steady at just under halfway, that's when zipping up the motorway or stuck in traffic.

In fact it's just like a normal car, which is what it is to me, in fact a pretty new one.  But to everyone else in work where it's the oldest car by some margin (15 years old) it's a daily miracle that I arrive at all.

The ka seems to be creaking more, the engine sounds as rough as ever, although hopefully it's rusting less.

Rover 214 is doing absolutely spot on. Running really well and windows down to keep me cool!

It's done 170 miles today in the heat.

Took the 75 to the shops earlier hoping for some AC respite, but it's suddenly decided not to blow cold anymore. It was ice cold a few weeks back, so thanks for that, just when i need it! And note to self, don't grab a chrome interior door handle in mega hot weather.

Fine, mums Volvo was having an alarm based hissy fit to itself earlier though.

We've just returned from a week in France; 1,000 miles in just over a week in temperatures hotter then we have here today and the Citroën coped faultlessly! Mind you, driving it is like sitting in your favourite arm chair while the delightful French countryside whizzed by at speeds averaging 90-100 mph. MPG was 36-38 overall.

Dinard IS a lovely place, as is the area around Rennes & Le Mans....... We brought back "quite a lot" of wine! (and a good suntan!)

The LT managed an 1100-mile trip to Germany and back over the weekend without any running issues.

The big windscreen made the interior a bit like a greenhouse though.

The Stellar, Peugeot 205 and Tipo are untroubled by the heat.  The 205 is the most pleasant to drive though, because it has a sliding glass sunroof and electric front windows - all wide open.  My Reliant Regal MKVI is another matter.  It will only run for about 15 miles with the ambient temperature >22degC, then it says 'stuff this' and the engine stops.  Persuading it to go again involves taking the internal engine cowling off, putting a mole wrench on the ignition key to keep  the starter churning - meanwhile, I pressurise the fuel tank by blowing on the filler through a large diameter rubber pipe which I carry for the  purpose.  These activities are viewed as a weird perversion by other motorists, and homeowners draw their curtains to indicate that I'm on my own with this one :-D .  If it does start (usually does after 10 minutes of fiddling), the inside of the car gets even hotter than usual, thanks to the puny ventilation offered by two small sliding windows and a distinct lack of speed.

Amazing, is it not, how quickly one can go off people...?  ;)  :)

The one car in the list below that would be absolutely ideal in this weather is the only one not currently on the road...

The mx5 roof handles are bit warm when you open them and the tyres seem to be leaving long black marks behind them for some weird reason, especially coming out of my favourite roundabout.

My Merc seems to like the sun, but the leather seats get baking hot so it's I have to make sure I put up the sunscreen.

Dull blue delaminting paintwork is slightly hotter.

Engine with no temp gauge has not illuminated the carefully designed warning lamp  - the one that tells you it's already boiled so beloved of the French.

Driver is hot.

Cassette player very hot.

Disco is dripping oil faster, which I didn't think was possible but there you go.

Axle still rotten. Axle, I mean, a bloody axle. Seriously - spoilt by Fronterrors me...

Filthy modern rageinducingInsignia cool on the inside. A/c and privacy glass ftw ftwife...:-)

Exactly the same as normal just a bit warmer in the cabin, black cars attract the heat so much, the engine temperature is as normal as ever though

Bini's a/c is making loud noises. It works, but it's concerning.

Brian copes well as Head has been done ,However Full Black Leather and no air con ..May as well be wearing a gimp suit TBH

Fine, I think... there's no temp gauge to watch like a hawk. Normally I'd be turning off the A/C in traffic and putting the blowers on to aid with cooling with driving things known for cooking but I'm going for ignorance is bliss.

Posted

Had two corsa's and one astra in the last few days all have their ignition locks jam,it seems the high temp in their cabins does for a tired lock.

So far cooling brake cleaner or compressed air blown thru the lock has got them freed off again.

Rover coupé taking the great in its stride, Targa roof coming off is a good idea, it may catch on.

A/C is a very distant dream.

It's tough out there. Only just put the roof up - it's been down all day.

Taken through BIL's bathroom window mid piss hence odd reflections.

I love £300 cars.

Cowley just did 75 mile caravan tow on motorway on hottest day of year so far. Gauge crept up a bit but when I felt the rad cap once home it was no warmer than usual neither were the hoses. Feck me it was 'ot inside the black bugger, though...

Aircon working perfectly so I feel like a right smug git at the moment as I drive around with the windows closed

Porsche is like sitting inside a black plastic dustbin, but it coped with lane closures and slow moving traffic on the M1 tonight.

The T2 will never overheat.

Jag operating as normal. The interior smells great when its warm - a mix of leather and the slight sweet smell of wood. Cools down quickly inside though. Oddly, the door handles seem to get really really hot.
