I like how it says "TFT display" on the TFT display.

I hate these. I’ve ranted about the reasons before so won’t repeat them. But…. For a grand, and in seemingly useable condition, they make for a solid shite choice. Watching with interest.

Great isn’t it - they still have this by 2019. Reminds me of early 00s tech where more printed words meant more advanced

The Scenic 3 has the same TFT text (maybe parts binned from it?).

Presumably it's to stop any doubt that you might think it's the unreliable VFD display that you might have had in a previous Scenic 2 before upgrading because the instrument cluster inevitably packed up again.

Check whether the SD card hasn’t just popped out a bit. Had that on one after a valet.

If not you can get a genuine SD card for £24 on eBay.

It's there and I've took it out/in and reset the unit so who knows.

Would be cool if someone was offering a downgrade to something like a DOT MATRIX DISPLAY

Yes this looks 100% like the same display.

Back now and at work, all very undramatic. 32 miles range left and the scores on the doors were 4.1miles/kWh overall for the trip, significantly assisted by the fact the whole bastard M1 from Derby to about Barnsley is 50mph roadworks. I actually gained a few miles on the way back into Huddersfield from Flockton as it's mostly downhill.

The charge at Tesco cost £4.75 and took 48 mins.

Some relative running costs, 45p/unit was the cost at Tesco, 22p is the rate at work, 8p is the current overnight Octopus rate.

As you can see, Diesel Reply Guys are in with a shout if  you only ever charge at Tesco but otherwise no chance.

C'mon man, don't do hauf a job...

What's the payback period for you to be ahead in total cost (i.e. savings from running EV Vs derv covering the cost of the Zoe purchase)

At the minute I estimate 190 miles a week I would use it for and a saving on fuel of £36-43 a week depending if charging at home or work, so I would need to run it for 25-30 weeks to be in profit. Probably a bit less as I already pay the electric bill at home and it will barely make a dent.

To be honest, I have been using the Golf for uber eats deliveries recently and I was hoping to use the Zoe for that but hilariously their hourly insurance provider categorically won't cover write-offs, so I need to do some even bigger maths to see if it's worth the effort of paying out lots for delivery insurance on the Zoe vs keeping using the Golf.

In a few weeks I probably will have even less time to do deliveries so this could end up moot.

This looks to be an absolute steal at the price you paid.

Ref. that Esc*rt van at work, can't you get them sacked?

Yep, looks like you've done bloody well there.  If I'd spotted the price had dropped that low I would have been tempted myself, despite the distance.

I spent most of the way back being slightly paranoid about the noise it was making. A high pitch whine that I couldn't tell if it was normal EV noise or an unhappy gearbox.

I had a Google and obviously people have reported bad noises and the conclusion was to try a gearbox oil change, then if not probably dead motor or summat.

It's just normal 75w90 gearbox oil so I had some in stock.

This is what came out, looks fairly normal, no forbidden sparkles or lumps, doesn't seem especially short on the either 0.6 or 0.9l it's meant to be. Please disregard the grass seeds my helper added.

IMG_20240730_175354943.jpg.0cdffc6773d7719de55a38307aa839ba.jpg

Banged some fresh in and took it up the road. It might be a bit quieter but it might be my imagination.

As you know there is another Zoe in the house I could try for a baseline but I'm not going to ask because SITUATION.

Anyway I reckon I might just be being paranoid, not much I can do but keep driving it and see.

I also managed to plug the flap actuator back in and reattach one side of the bumper so a success overall?

Has it got a name yet? HuGgY Bear from the number plate?

At that price I’d drive and not worry about the noise -at least you know it’s not the timing chain 😉

Yeah that's absolutely the plan, was just worth doing the oil anyway seeing as I had some.

I don't do names for cars.

Is there not a radio you can turn up?

Seriously,  though, there's not much worse than TE FEAR when you buy a 'new' car and something gets in your head about it. If a motor was dead though, then wouldn't it have just not charged up, or driven in some sort e-limp mode?

Whatever happens, as long as it runs then I'd be fairly confident you aren't going to lose out if you ended up whanging it round the block at your local auction.  Hopefully it's not an actual problem with the car, obvs.

The only bit of the M1 between Barnsley and East Mids Airport that isn't 50mph is the section between J28 and J25. It does though mean my diesel shit box returns around 150mpg coming back from holiday...

Yeeer, like fuck, looks a decent purchase for the money Dave.

Yeah I'm just going to file it firmly under "ignore" for now and get some miles done in it.

I always delete the scrap value from the cost as that’s in the bank.

Anyone say dibs yet when you fix everything?

Looks like you're first in line. TBF I may move it on sooner rather than later and get a bigger battery one if I decide I like it.

I've long said the actual value of these early leafs and Zoes should be about £1500 due to the limited range, maybe the market is slowly catching up. Although there are still plenty of people trying to sell them for £5k+.

Do you think they are dropping off the end of the 'decent' motor price band?  Since Christmas a lot of the tat quality motors I peruse seems to have started a sudden slide in price - they're mostly around the 2013 date on your Zoe - maybe they're dropping into the 'unknown liability' zone and the average punter is not willing to make a leap of faith and buy one?

Manufacturers finance contributions and rates have been falling recently which means the drip has returned to the finance tap and the buyers of shallow end motors are now back on payments mode.

This inevitably feeds up and down the supply and demand food chain so the shite end becomes cheaper and more disposable as its market diminishes.

Long live dealer/manufacturer funded finance to keep a steady supply of shite on my driveway.

Doesn't have the odometer reading on it?

That extra 4% charge takes me a long way

Alright then Billy Big Battery.

No, it's not come up with the mileage yet, the very helpful woman on the phone did say it's meant to take up to 72 hours to activate so will see if it pops up later.

Cheapest functional over here is 8500€, and they can keep it at that price. For 2000€, I’d be very tempted.

I know that the UK has no secondary market to keep the prices up, but fivefold difference in price is just crazy.
