FFS, if you're going to bankrupt yourself, do it with fucking style!

having gone through shipping a few times, I've set £1300 on one side and settled on a £4200 budget. Which according to my good friends at XE Conversion, gets you roughly 6220 yankee dollars

These cars are all currently cheaper than $6220. Pheaton? Kiss my speckled eggs

Some people don't like yankee motors, and wouldn't mind what is basically a Bentley with less desirable badge.

I'll park it next to my Cosworth Sierra. The one I fitted with a 1.6 pinto for insurance reasons

I don't get cars like this. It's just an overweight Passat, with a few more luxuries and a bigger engine. It's just modern bilge, that is (surprise surprise) now fucked and not really worth repairing, proven by the fact that nobody, like the current owner, has bothered to fix it.

The best place for this is having a Ford V6 shoved in and taken for a few laps of the oval! Bonus points for it being (probably) the first of its type to be bangered.

Sorry, but that's my opinion!

There's a place just off the A1 at Wyboston that seems to specialise in big high mileage barges, they've got a yard full of Mercs,Audi and a lot of big Jap 4x4s. They export a lot of em ,but advertise some in the Trader.

Anyway, last year I went to look at a couple of A8s, sitting in the yard were 2 collapsed Phaetons, both with miles of wiring hanging out of the dash. As we walked past I asked the owner about them.

" I never learn, they're so cheap I think I can't lose on them " he said " they should be as good as A8s, but I've never made a penny out of one"

On the other hand I've got 2 customers who've had Phaeton company cars and reckon they're the best cars they've ever had and that I should get one.

I'm thinking that engine would be good in a old audi TT (Perhaps in between the rear wheels)

Park it in a field for 3 years then flog it for $$$ as BARN FIND CLASSIC DUB because PINEAPPLEOLDSKOOLVAGMONGS will be queing up for it. That's what happens to most  old Volkswagens, is it not?

Fixed that for you.

Phaetons are great just not this one .

Google phaeton 10 parameters to see how anal they got and how much they spent developing it .

Phaeton as a company car would be ace! A phaeton as a car where you have to pay for repairs would be terrifying, however.

That fuel tank reminds me of the one on my Ducati only more complicated . Just no fucking need . Typical German over designed and under engineered shit

I've no doubt a w12 or v10 tdi would be massive fun to drive, if anyone is daft enough to take it on can I have a go?

Read today that these have a 20 wire loom for the boot lid, all grey colour coded that gets chopped by the hinges over time.

Is that before or after the boot lid has powered itself through the back window? Apparently another little party trick of the Netto Bentley.

More likely a trader who picked it up at an auction, has the V5 slip and knows nowt about cars allegedly (for the purposes of ignorance when it fails MOT in spectacular fashion due to emissions) lol

That fuel tank is astonishing. I bet changing that makes the Beamer one we spotted last week look like childs play

The tycoon up the road has one of these with 240k miles on it and it sounds amazing when you give it some welly.

"The seatbelt has to be separated from the seat in order to remove the seats. This is done by detaching the insertion tongue's plastic covering and the subsequent removal of the metal pin which is secured with a sheet metal lock. As seen in the illustration, the insertion tongue's housing is sawn open at the two joints with a little hacksaw. The topside can then be removed. Once the pin has been removed, the belt can be separated from the insertion tongue and the seat can be removed."

Don't think you can whip the Recarros out of your XR2 and bang them in here.

And there's two batteries - one for the starter and the other for "infotainment" - from the illustration they are both about the same size!

The frightening thing about that is that it will have gulped its way through £50k worth of petrol!

It's a very nice, sumptuous but also very frightening car to own. The example in the for over £5k definitely isn't worth it, certainly not in that condition. There are better ones out there for less money. Seemingly the trader of that particular example has no idea of tye real-world prices for them so stuck what first came to his head.

Phaetons may not appeal to everyone, but they certainly do to some. I personally like them and one day I would like to try one. They are a little too over complicated as per the Bentley Complicentinal (as I found out last week :() and yes they do look like a Passat on steriods but then the Peugeot 605 looked like a 405 that did some wieght training aswell but it still has it's fans/enthusiasts

Posted

I like them, but I can't think of a car with less enthusiast following than the Peugeot 605, they're totally off the radar and almost extinct in the UK.

Posted

I'd love a 605, last one I saw for sale he wanted £800 for it. Realistically of say £400 more like it given the grief you will have getting spares etc for it.
