The best bit hasn't happened yet. Tomorrow morning you'll wake up and remember you have a matt red Umm on your driveway.

Tomorrow morning your neighbours will also notice that you have a matt red Umm on your driveway.

This forum makes me proud.

SHMBO has just seen this vehicle & wants to know "what the f&&k IS it" and "how much did you pay for it and (perhaps more importantly) why???" But then again, she doesn't quote "get" Autoshite!

Please, please, please try to get replacement bulbs from Halfords, just for shits & giggles :)

Not the beige one?

I'm still enjoying the name, although the collection of an almost unknown vehicle over a long distance into the night with dodgy lights and mystery fuel gauge has been most thrilling :)

This car is so ugly I half expect it and Chunk to help the Goonies find One Eyed Willies treasure. Its absolutely brilliant.

I've been on a collection mission myself all day so I missed this, but what a superb purchase.  Glad it got you home safely too.

The got home safely is the boring bit. But everything else is ubershitetastic.

May I herewith politely request to book a test drive at an upcoming shitefest?

(Rover V8 testage in return is not entirely ruled out.)

This is just so much better than any OLLI or CJ could possibly be.

Bring a Munga if you want to come close.

If you can make Mr Bickle say that, you have won Autoshite forever.  Someone bring him the beige trophy!

Fantastic, I am well jealous.

Sodding those Super Centipede Squasher XXL tyres off for virtually any other tyre will improve the driving experience massively.  Look forward to more close up and personal shots!!

Umm reality:

MOT due in 3 weeks.

Bulbs - a few, osr position light had also failed by the time I got home. It might be an idea to replace them all.

Windscreen washer - inoperable, but 3 wipers do work and look rather good in action - FIXED, blocked pipe.

It runs well, see 250 miles covered yesterday, brakes seem ok, handbrake works but not fantastic, hopefully just needs tightening.

Not sure of anything else for the MOT ... hole in bed probably not testable, but need to get it on a ramp and check anything else.

To do - not MOT

Dash lights

Door check-straps, broken, replace with link chain or something.

Heater - possibly broken, need to read manual to try and understand it.

3 switches of mystery - are they attached to anything? investigate.

Tilt/canvas back - no rush, but would be nice, suggestion of galvanised conduit for frame a possibility.

Wheels - some with less nobbly tyres would be nice. Does anyone know what wheels will fit? I have no idea of pcd.

Get spare keys cut - 3 keys for vehicle, one for doors, another for ignition, and third for fuel flap.

Possibly fit a radio and speakers, I do have an old CB somewhere as well.

I have decided against fitting carpet.

Repair bed - 2mm sheet steel, maybe I can learn a bit of welding on this.

Paint - don't be silly, red oxide if/where needed. I will probably schutz the bed though.

I'll get some interior pics and other stuff up after I've had another coffee and bacon sandwich.

Umm, that looks brilliant! How was the blue one?

Nice work Sir!

For check straps, I'd use a bit of webbing, or a chopped up seat belt. If you play around with it, it'll behave nicely when you shut the door.

Don't forget to photograph the fuel pump.

You can buy a PCD checker from eBay for £4.95, or any decent tyre company should have a tool and check for you. Once you have the measurements and the centre bore/offset, you could try somewhere like Carl Salter on the web and see what else might suit it. I've had a scan this morning but not found anything yet, will keep trying and let you know if I find anything.

A search for UMM wheels on CustoJusto suggests that Japanese wheels might fit iepost-17481-0-17095300-1425805306_thumb.png

Vitara 15" wheels fit on old Renaults, I had them on my last fregate so could be a fair chance they will fit.

Completely brilliant purchase. So glad this is in the fold!

Stand to be corrected, but I don't Rover seats had that piping.

Posted

The seats appear to be different, passenger with headrest and no piping, driver's side piping no headrest.

Drivers seat Bentley, passenger Rover?

looks good - and the blue one?

The actor Jeremy Irons had one.

You're not going to turn into a luvvie are you?

That is a fabulous piece of kit, I want one to upset the neighbours !!!!!

90s vintage Jaguar/Daimler for the driver's seat I thought, while the passenger one does look more Rover.  I guess we'll never know.

I am sooooooo full of envy this end.  Cracking purchase. Plenty of Peugeot parts out there to keep her running. I may have a workshop manual kicking about if you give me time to look for it.

It's not very thick, lol.
