Such negativity……completely correct and factual in everything you say……but so negative. If the custodian of the Fuel pump wants to drain if from its diesel bath, we can reinstall it and see if that has brought it back into life before doing anything else. I suspect any sober assessment will render that unviable for restoration, but if it started and move, it could move stuff around the field. Assuming my addiction to lemsip has worn off by the weekend, we need to take another gander at that Carlton and put together a plan of attack……bring back the GL…….Bring back the GL…….being back the GL….i hear the AS community chant Floatylight, Wibble, beko1987 and 1 other 3 1

It was not your Cavalier CDi I popped into a ditch 30+ years ago and lost my freedom to choose my own company car. ianbmw Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Thing is, I used to drive that Royale and like the Carlton’s, I feel a little sorry for it. It is also, 6 cylinder, RWD and MOT and Tax exempt……so it’s time is now! But I think a day of planning is required to establish what order things need to be done. If the GL needs major engine surgery, then I’m inclined ti focus on the Royale until the weather warms up/ I have source in my garage Shite Ron, chaseracer, Wibble and 1 other 4

Six-cylinder Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Today another new fuel pump was fitted to the Citroen DS and this time it was successful with no leaks. I guessed the fuel was low but had no idea how low. I decided to test run the car aiming for Tesco petrol 3 miles away. Luckily I did not get off the drive when the engine stopped and the pump run loud and fast so I guess it is out of petrol. I did not have time to add petrol so that is a job for tomorrow. @ianbmw volunteered to meet me at the FoD to discuss a plan for the Vauxhalls. First success to Ian because with the Citroen out of action I had to jump in the Carlton estate which he fixed. Next he suspected the fuel leak I had reported from the carburetor was I was using an auxiliary electric pump that was pushing in petrol at too high a pressure so he reconnected the mechanical pump. The fuel line under the car is hanging down and broken. The fuel tank has not been used for many years so he rigged up a bottle. It started, did not leak petrol but roared from the blown exhaust. Next was a plugs out and compression test on the blue Carlton saloon. No.3 plug was sooted up but the compression was good on all four cylinders. We started it and it still smokes. Ian did an inspection of the Bedford CF but never reported the result! The other win for the day is while Ian won't sell me his car washing daughter she did volunteered to wash another couple of cars today. The blue Carlton saloon got a good going over as it was so bad last time and it needed a second wash. The white Sigma also got a wash in preparation for it returning to the road. ianbmw Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Thing is, I used to drive that Royale and like the Carlton’s, I feel a little sorry for it. It is also, 6 cylinder, RWD and MOT and Tax exempt……so it’s time is now! When it came off the road, there wasn’t anything wrong with it bar a bit crunchy on the back sill. So it’s really a case of reassembling, finding the missing bits and seeing what it does. I will slide under it, address the exhaust and plumb it’s fuel lines back up and let’s go from there. We can certainly promote it from….shed, to ………drivable shed! Before conquering the heights of…..road legal! It’s a massive blow to my Carlton domination plans. 1,2,4 have a beautiful burn on the plug, all cylinders have good compression when cold, but plug 3 was wet with oil, so somethings not right and that’s a cylinder head off job, that will need to wait until I can get it back to mine really or warmer weathered……it will be fixed @Mrs6C!!! I’m not giving up! Bedford CF……I am in no way suggesting any form of restoration, but it’s not as bad as the ones I see now getting done. The front wings , steps are holy, but it’s actually better than i remember……it still slower than a snail and a monster task……I’d still be interested to see what it does with the fuel pump back on, I wouldn’t want to spend any money on it! car washing duties, it’s the Astra next I’m told! When she runs out of blue Vauxhalls, she may venture into others Wibble, Mrs6C, timolloyd and 6 others 9
Minimad5 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 That Disco 1 looks pretty clean, hope she's on the save list. Well done @ianbmw for getting that Carlton back on the road.

ianbmw Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Look @Six-cylinder, you can buy the repair panels now for a CF!! just imagine coughing those 4 aging cylinders into life, before building up the RPMs for a snail pace start, creating your own smoke screen so the pedestrians and passing traffic are left in utter disbelief and questioning if they have time travelled back to the 80s.
