Fantastic!  I really miss my old E3 - sadly they've gone out of my price range now.

That is my favourite colour.

My friend had several classic BMWs including a blue 3.0S , but I bought the brown 2500 Auto from him.

I had an E12 525 in that colour.

I have never had an E12. I have had a couple of E28 's.

My first BMW was an E28, 528i with a dogleg gearbox.

Was that standard?

I only remember the 535i M spec having a dogleg gearbox. My 535i was an SE so a standard shift Patten.

My other E28 was an early 525i 5 speed manual.

As far as I know it might have been specced from new. It was a barn find (almost) I am trying to find the mag it got featured in, its in the loft somewhere.

My grandad had an E21 323i (OYM145Y) which had a normal 5-speeder, but the owner’s manual showed a dog-leg ‘box as an option on some models. I know there were options for standard and close ratio 5-speeders on some of these earlier series Beemers.

Todays car activity was about colleting my BX with its new MOT.

My garage said it was one of my better cars!

Found some of the details.  E28  BMW 528 Ci, 2788cc Reg number, B214RLM, Alpine white, first registered March 1985.  Pleased to say it is still taxed and MOTd, to July this year.  Still looking for the mag. The car was left unused for several years. The person I bought it from was a journalist, or friend of one, and wrote an article about re-commissioning it that was published in late 1990s. It was from that article I put an offer in, and it was accepted. I had it for 3 -4 years, and enjoyed it.  I was informed by a BMW specialist that where the bulkhead and front of floor joins it had rotted out across the width of the car, as well as other areas, and repair was "not practical" . Obviously that was not the case, as more than 10 years on, it is still on the road.  I know that mag is somewhere!

I used the BX again today and one minor niggle is the plip is not working. I have changed the 3 batteries but it is still not working. The central locking works fine from the key. Is there anything that can be done to make them work again?

Are the contacts all clean ? Battery and button?

It looks like the one I had in my 1986 CX. That worked fine as long as the batteries were ok snd the contacts clean. I don’t think it’s s complex circuit. Could just be a joint needing a bit of solder.

Batteries are new, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're good - I've had a couple of dudd button cells lately new out the packet.

I'll happily take a look if it's helpful, there's not really much to it, doesn't look like there's much there by way of components which are prone to just randomly dying while on the shelf either.

If you look at the output (infra-red) LED with a phone camera, you should be able to see this flicker when the button is pressed. If so, the problem is with the receiver unit which can sometimes get a bit furry from aerial leaks.

Don't suppose anyone going to FoD has a code reader that will talk to a 2006 E90 3 Series? I'm wondering if anything will come up to explain a slow battery drain when left locked up...

@Longbridge Apologist, I will bring mine on Sunday. (not Saturday, dentist appointment, UGH)  Check the boot light goes off when it is closed. @Six-cylinder, I also have a little battery tester. Where is the IR receiver on the car? Is it on the windscreen by the mirror,  make sure it is clean, not blocking the signal.

No flicker can be seen.☹️

That means there is no signal out of the led. Could be batteries.  I will look at it on Sunday.

26/27 March First FoD of 2022

All are expected to attend and no more fake notes from parents to say Johnny is excused FoD!

What we are doing.

  • Triumph Toledo - fit the parts I have and check what else I need to buy.
  • Take the cylinder head off the Carlton 2.0i Club estate to check the damage.
  • Start Carlton 1.8 GLi.
  • Make a couple of the mopeds run.
  • Cut the grass.
  • Check tyres on Mk1 Cavalier bound for Zel.
  • Change Drivers seat base on 230TE.
  • If you have a project you would like to tackle please let me know.
  • Work on you own car/stuff
  • Drink tea and chat.

Weather looks like it will be great.

how long do you think it would take @Mrs6C to notice if Dolly's carburettor mysteriously went missing and mysteriously reappeared in Red5's workshop

and which shitter do you think is best bribed to make this mysteriously happen?

on a more serious note!

just incase anyones expecting me, (I doubt it! LOL) I sadly wont be able to make it as I dont have any accommodation to go to at the end of the days activities, as sadly my usual premier inn is all booked up!

but I hope everyone else has a good time! :)

I'll hopefully be able to put in an appearance on one of the days.

I'll bring over a battery and couple of cans of fuel to go in the Cavalier.  As I recall the tyres all looked in decent shape aside from the NSF one which had a huge bulge in it.  I can't remember if there was a spare with the car or not.

Target for me if nobody's already done it: get that bloody Bedford started... we'd got pretty much everything sussed out as I remember, just ran out of electricity and time.  Will make sure to bring my decent jump leads.

not that I dont want to see the bedford started, but I really want to be there when it does! so I dont want to miss it! LOL

no ones got a spare room I can stay in for a night? :)

If anything needs to head up to @red5 I'm happy to help.

I can also take something somewhat bigger than a carb as it looks like I'm coming in a van.

Unfortunately not, it wouldn't be any good for Saturday's job if it did work.
