The Vauxhall collection is shrinking!

I have sold the Manta grass track car, no surprise there.

The odd one is I have sold the brown Cavalier 1.6GL MK1, the enquiry came from  seeing it in the background of a picture of my red Manta for sale. I had not looked at the car and told the buyer "I can't tell you anything other than it rolls. I don't have a V5C for this car, which is why I have not hurried to do anything with it." He just asked if it had an interior and I said "yes but condition unknown". Deal done, paid for and off to North Wales next week.

Presumably the proceeds of sale from the two Cavs and Manta will go some way to balancing what you paid for all eight? Any possibility that we might get to the point where the remaining cars are effectively free of charge? That must be a win!

You've not seen how much work the car they want to keep needs! The cash from selling the 3 for sale/sold might get it through the door of the welders 😂

With moving into the bigger workshop, came the ability to do other things an the VP was left to chill out for a while. But it really needs to be hitting the mean streets again so up we go

Where did we leave off? Well the front was welded and in need of painting. The rear needs plenty of welding but after hunting for some 2mm steel sheet in the workshop the other day i was reminded id used it on the carlton spring mount. Doh. So fresh steel was ordered and hopefully that arrives asap.

With the wagon on the lift i got the seam sealer out and stippled it to match the original stonechip.  Then a splash of upol guard over the top then when dry a splash of supertrol wax.  The wing was rust treated and given the same.

The wing went back on whilst the wax dried out.

Fingers crossed for metal before the weekend.

The kids asked to sit in it... We hastily said no, their utterly fucking minging😂 I only left them on as they protected the original fabric incase they say for a while...

It should survive a trip through the washing machine though, if the new owner decides

I'm hoping to get along to this, but not sure what to bring. Stellar is out of MOT and I'm not sure it'll be tested in time :-( Either way I hope to be there.

When two become one,

Whilst waiting for the metal i decided to address the front corner light, the old one had corroded away and a fellow shiter had donated a slightly better unit.

Old unit

Marginally less older unit. Seems the studs have snapped off and some point so some self tappers have been used to mount it. Ill probably just do the same. The bulbs however were and issue.

Hmmmmmm

20210905_145454.thumb.jpg.a386787cc9f0a1cbc446fab19de9fa14.jpg

I didnt take any pics but i peeled the old bulb holder from the old light. Pulled what was left of the crusty bit out the new one and opened up the hole so i could bond in the other one in with some chemical metal.

With the side light unit also fubard i popped the old one out, gently folded the tabs up one the other unit and fed that into the hole. I then needed to fold the tabs back so i placed a socket in the vice to support the housing and peened the tabs back over

The unit is the earth for the side light and with the indicator being bonded i  the connection was lost so i made a wee cable and earth point through the backing.

And the result?

Thats about 3 hours but im happy with the result.

Popped back to collect some rubbish. Whilst i was here i chucked the light unit is after managing to get two of the original mounts to sercure it, i didnt like the seft tapper approach.  I filled the old holes with some chemical metal and with that the wing is on and done. Lashing of wax up the inside to boot.

With the wing now one the bumper went back on too, lovely.

Anyone heading to the FoD from the Chichester area able to collect some Dyane bits for me?  One's a HRW and the seller's understandably not keen to trust it to a courier...

Cheers chaps.

How about I give them directly to @Fumbler and Dave can have a nice pair of drive on ramps instead? Isn't that easier for everyone? 😁

Yesterday my New Mercedes E320 Coupe has been taken to a Mercedes specialist for the rear subframe bushes to be changed and a body mounting point welded. I am looking forward to one of the finest looking coupes ever to be made to grace my drive.

not a surprise :D

when are you buying a ponton :D

It would be Fantail for me please.

My dad had a 4 year old 1965 220Sb as a company car when I was a child and I have never forgotten it. Yes the textured vinyl seats did leave an impression on my legs traveling to Austria in shorts.

Mrs6C decide she wanted to queue jump and get her Chrysler Sebring MOTed so today we got it out of storage. One flat tyre and 2 low tyres was no problem as I had remembered to take an electric pump. Looking at the tyres there is some cracking which is a worry for the MOT.

It had a flat battery which is not a surprise and a simple jump from my jump pack got it going easily, trouble was it cut out after we had moved it outside. I quizzed Mrs6C as to why she had turned it off and she assured me it had just cut out. It was then difficult to restart even with the jump pack reconnected, Mrs6C fiddled with it and moved the gear selector and thinks it was the inhibitor switch being sticky, but whatever it was it started again.

After a mile of driving the battery warning light came on and I thought I would peter to a halt but it carried on just fine. A short distance more and the car cut out, but we were still rolling and it cut back in. I then drove 5 miles home with no problems.

It still had a flat battery so we put it on charge and two hours later tried another start, this time a good cranking speed and seemed to even cough but would not start.

We have left it on charge but tomorrow I am supposed to take it for MOT so in the morning it is going to be will it, won’t it start game.

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode………………

I had those as a child, my mother was Austrian.

When you are small they still do not stop the back of your legs coming into contact with a hot textured vinyl giant back seat.
