Six-cylinder Posted May 3, 2021 Author Posted May 3, 2021 Thanks @Andyrew the Carlton now smells like a well disinfected public toilet in spite of your claims of a new car smell! OK, ok it is now safe to sit inside I will give you that. Shite Ron, LightBulbFun, Floatylight and 8 others 10 1
Six-cylinder Posted May 3, 2021 Author Posted May 3, 2021 While clearing up at the FoD last night we found this thermo mug crying, saying it had lost its daddy!

In isolation ( from other cars to compare size) it could be a long wheelbase hatchback mini. Did issigonis have a hand in the design?
chaseracer Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 It was his last design. They managed to change the locks to the Amalgamated Drawing Office soon afterwards... 😉 wuvvum, HMC, adw1977 and 4 others 2 5
Six-cylinder Posted May 4, 2021 Author Posted May 4, 2021 Our Mercedes 200TE heater is stuck on max, it did it before and I replaced the duo value and then the control unit that has the temp control dials and it was still on max. I sent it to a Mercedes specialist who after a huge amount of time had a rare customer W124 and swapped the control unit and it worked fine. This proved the second hand unit I bought was duff and they bought a second-hand control unit and it all worked fine for 2 years. I decided to buy another second-hand control unit and fit that in the hope it would solve the problem. At the FoD we tried to get the plug out of the replacement unit with its cut off wires, but we were defeated as we couldn't release the tabs that were hidden. Today I have got the plug out even if I have damaged the casing a bit. Next is round two to get the plug out of the one in the car. @Slowsilver RobT, richardmorris, LightBulbFun and 2 others 5

Issigonis designed Mini and Maxi, but Roy Haynes came across from Ford to restyle the Maxi's snout and the Mini Clubman, which is why their grilles look quite a lot like MK2 Cortinas... richardmorris and chaseracer 1 1

Except the original design had a flat bonnet, and rather predictably, TR7-esque scallops. So whoever is really responsible for the Allegro is a production engineer who couldn't grasp the idea of a canted-back E-Series. richardmorris and Heidel_Kakao 2

Bear Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 It's like the Maxi/Landcrab vs Peugeot 204/304 sort of designs. Somehow, and I have no idea how, the originals (are they Pininfarina) make the cow-hipped/short tapering boot look good then BMC/BL do it and it looks frumpy/dumpy. HOW?! Did the British stylists not have eyes? Though if we're going to argue aesthetics the Triumph SD2 is one of the bizarrest things ever, and LC88 as 'a euro style hatch' (pre-Metro) is just weird. Proportions worthy of a Geely Beauty Leopard vs a Supra. loserone 1

Six-cylinder Posted May 6, 2021 Author Posted May 6, 2021 I have been to vote in the council election today, another excuse to swan around in the Daimler if just to our local village 2 miles away. Floatylight Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 Bit of minor tinkering has taken place with 6c's 306 Convertible, stereo now saves settings and doesn't light up like a drug induced disco experience on startup and knackered speakers replaced..
