Slowsilver Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Quicksilver & I can come on Sunday, weather permitting. See my PM. Six-cylinder and BorniteIdentity 2
Six-cylinder Posted April 1, 2021 Author Posted April 1, 2021 There is still plenty of room for more visitors if anybody wants to visit. Friday - I am hoping IanBMW will fit a coil to the green Range Rover. I also have to move some cars in storage off site. Saturday - Heidel_Kakao Sunday - Slowsilver, Quicksilver and hopefully Andyrew if the MX5 works. Monday - I now think it will be too cold to want to be at the FoD LightBulbFun and BorniteIdentity 2
Talbot Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 There is also the consideration of course that you could have up to 6 people in one area of the FoD, and another 6 people some 200m away in another bit of the FoD. ... and I don't mean that in a "here's a handy loophole to exploit", just that the FoD is plenty large enough that there could easily be more than one group there. I did run the numbers though my calculator and without the rule of 6 we could accommodate 12,000 people all 2m apart in all directions! wuvvum, puddlethumper, BorniteIdentity and 1 other 2 2
Talbot Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Was that with a square grid of people or a triangular grid?

Six-cylinder Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 What started Quiz! Answers at 10PM Today I had to move some cars around that were in storage and there were 3 not mine that had to be moved. These cars have all been unmoved since last December. The question is what started on the turn off a key, what needed a jump, what was a pain and what never started? 1984 Range Rover Citroen Visa Cabriolet E36 BMW 323i Coupe Peugeot 306 Cabriolet MGF Lancia Trevi Citroen ZX Lotus Elam M100 BlankFrank, LightBulbFun, Bear and 1 other 4

Six-cylinder Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 Answers to what started today 1984 Range Rover – was parked battery disconnected and started with some churning when reconnected Citroen Visa Cabriolet - started easily with a jump – one flat tyre E36 BMW 323i Coupe - started easily with a jump Peugeot 306 Cabriolet - started easily with a jump – two flat tyres MGF - started easily with a jump Lancia Trevi – was parked battery disconnected and no amount of churning would get it going and we had to push it around Citroen ZX – Flat battery and the jump pack was low so would not start. It had upset the alarm and was not keen to jump from a Land Rover. It could have been the alarm we reset that got it going although the immobiliser is keypad and showed green when the number was entered. Lotus Elan M100 – broken when it went in and still broken 4 months later. Mrs6C 1

Six-cylinder Posted April 4, 2021 Author Posted April 4, 2021 Today was mainly about the Carlton and it started very well. We added antifreeze, did a few test laps of the field and it drove just fine. Unfortunately it then stated to get hot and pushed water out of the radiator overflow pipe. Checking it had added water to the oil so probably a blown head gasket. @Andyrew also checked for rust on the driver’s side rear chassis as this was an advisory at the last MOT. The bad news is there is rust the good news it is accessible to repair it. So this is how it rewarded us for washing it! Floatylight, Craig the Princess, timolloyd and 3 others 3 3
beko1987 Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Surely @Andyrewcan have that changed tomorrow? I'll hold the umbrella (2m away...) Hope you had the excellent weather there as I did here!
High Jetter Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Any history on the Carlton? It was reg in my area, might be able to flesh it out for you.
AnthonyG Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I don’t want to be rude, but are Carltons now that rare that the one above is worth fixing? It’s got HGF, chassis rust and the paintwork’s looks like it’s had it. Normally I try to see the best in old sheds, but it just seems to define the words End of Life Vehicle to me. Surely money would be better spent on something like the Trevi or Guilietta?

Ghosty Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Head gaskets aren't that hard on the old 8v engines, the head bolts are on the outside for one. Mrs6C 1

Surely money would be better spent on something like the Trevi or Guilietta? You are missing the point!!!🙂 It is about fixing something that is broken, no matter if it makes sense or not! When I faltered at the thought of paying a garage to do a head gasket @Andyrew interjected with “all you need is a bunch of gullible ****** and pay them in tea and biscuits”. So we are back on track looking for the lowest cost parts to do the head gasket change. Carltons are now quite rare with only 173 taxed, saloons and estates of all years. There are also 51 Lotus Carltons. While I like Carltons a 2.0 manual would not be my choice, let’s get it back on the road and give it chance. The previous late owner loved it. Talbot Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 HGF on that old 8V engine is not common at all. I've known them overheated to hell and back and still in good order. They're a really robust design. Even non-interference, so you can cambelt roulette as long as you like. When it snaps, the engine just stops and it's about 2hrs work to put a new on one. Maybe even less on a longitudinal arrangement like that in an engine bay designed for an inline 6.

Yes. @RichardK has it on trial and says it is good to drive. Me - I think it is ugly and creates absolutely zero desire to own one. Shite Ron, richardmorris, BeEP and 2 others 5
