I imagine you've checked all sorts, but just wondering if it's a dodgy condensor. I've got a spare NOS one you can have. I have had a go with new points and condenser today but I think I may have stretched the clip that holds the points in so have not been able to try it. Ours has a Ducellier distributor.
RobT Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Do you still have the old points? I replaced mine a few years back, thinking I'd be good and do some maintenance, but I couldn't get it to start. Put the old ones back in that are at least 20 years old and it's still fine! Maybe that can be my job for Saturday. No guarantees of success though...
RobT Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I should say my car was laid up for years and is low millage, so when I got it all the points needed were a clean and remain in OK condition.
Six-cylinder Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 I do have the old points but I went to change mine as it would not start after I retarded the distributor a couple of degrees because it was pinking badly.
RobT Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Must admit mine was prone to pinking too. Trial and error with tweaking the timing, plus only using decent super plus unleaded with Castrol additive seems to have created a happy situation. It does 40mpg+ so the extra expense doesn't matter!
Six-cylinder Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 I had been using premium fuel and an octane booster but it still pinked. It felt lively and good to drive, but in the end I just needed to cure the pinking so like you a bit of trial and error a 5 minute job of backing the timing off a fraction. It has never run since and has lost its spark. I had removed the distributor cap and rotor arm while I was marking the dist position and I have replaced them as they did not look great but still no spark. This is all particularly annoying as I have just had the gas in the spheres redone and have not even driven it yet.
RobT Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 That is odd. I'm running out of ideas but as a random thought is it worth tweaking it to the original position? Obviously doesn't solve the pinking but I imagine you just want it to start now!

egg Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 If you ever want to sell that twin pot Visa....?.... I expect there is a queue.

Six-cylinder Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 When I told the headmaster of the Visa forum I had found a Visa Twin pot I particularly liked because it was the updated front with the satellite switch gear he told me there were only three left in the UK like that and I had better get it bought! I am not planning to sell it. 500tops, Mrs6C and egg 3
egg Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Quite right. French ones with CT seem to be between €750-€2000.
Mrs6C Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 This twin-pot has a stylised outline of Concorde down each side as well, which is an unusual decal. I would like to find out more about that. Citroen and Air France had a special tie-in with Concorde for the CX and started to build a special edition of the GTi Turbo to commemorate 10 years of supersonic flight... but the order was cancelled part-way through and only a few were completed... https://www.artebellum.com/en/articles/6929-citroen-cx-gti-turbo-concorde-auction-highlight LightBulbFun, egg and richardmorris 3
