Six-cylinder Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 I have done a brim to brim mpg check on the XM. 60.57 ltr for 328.5 miles gives 24.6 mpg. I guess this is about right for a heavy under powered 2.0i Auto that has only been used locally. The fuel gauge was giving me false hope saying I had only used a little under half when I had used three quarters of the 80 Ltr tank, so it was going to plunge if I keep going or dump me still showing fuel on the gauge!
dean36014 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I managed to get about 34mpg on a run in it so thats not bad.
NorfolkNWeigh Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I'm pleased to read about the XM, I noticed it last Friday, when passing Chez6C , but didn't recall any mention of it here. Didn't want to post anything in case one of you had an XM driving secret admirer...Incidentally sorry if the pair of Golf R s passing your house last Friday caused any disturbance, I was really trying to be sensible . From what I remember of 2.0 auto XMs is they were much worse than Carltons and Granadas when it came to all running costs, including fuel ( also the brakes fade to nothing quite easily) Six-cylinder and Mrs6C 2
beko1987 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 My old 2.0tct auto did 28mpg at utter best, which was 55 with the wagons. 70/80/one time at 110 on the m1 it was 23/24mpg... I couldn't afford that sadly

DSdriver Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Mine told me it did 32mpg on a trip down to SW France with a week of dithering and buying wine when we were there. Parked in France by Jean-Pierre Declemy, on Flickr Return journey was fully loaded
Six-cylinder Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 I'm pleased to read about the XM, I noticed it last Friday, when passing Chez6C , but didn't recall any mention of it here. Didn't want to post anything in case one of you had an XM driving secret admirer... I have had the XM since 10th Feb and announced its arrival in post 3475. My Mercedes 200TE is broken and Mrs6C told me she needed priority on our 156 V6 Sports wagon so I bought another 156 V6 for myself. 10 days later the S-Type Jaguar came up and I had always wanted one. Then careless talk on this forum mentioned a XM might be available! I did sell the S Type but we still have 2 working 156 V6s! I sold XMs new and later I used to drive my friends regularly first a CT Auto saloon then a 2.1 TD Auto Estate, I was getting withdrawal symptoms! chaseracer, mrbenn, Royale80 and 3 others 6
beko1987 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I do miss mine. Doubt I'll ever be able to afford another though now, their on the up Six-cylinder 1
Six-cylinder Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 I do miss mine. Doubt I'll ever be able to afford another though now, their on the up Not if its only a 2.0i with badly peeling lacquer!
beko1987 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 That's the issue, I'd need a 2.1td to be able to afford to drive it to work and back every day at the very least Six-cylinder 1
dean36014 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I still miss that XM. It's a good car under its scruffy appearance. A respray is out my budget unfortunately and the reality is it's not worth the expenditure. After the X rally this weekend work will start on the XM estate as want it on the road in may.
Zelandeth Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I don't have an XM, but do have a TCT engined Xantia. I see mid 30s on a long motorway run, but low to mid 20s are the norm around town - granted I do tend to have a rather heavy right foot driving it though - C'mon...the Activa wasn't built to be driven gently...
beko1987 Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 I saw the x rally stuff on a zx Facebook group. I'm at my dad's this week and only up the road from Grantham... Wonder if I'd get my cambelt sorted if I popped over?
Six-cylinder Posted April 15, 2019 Author Posted April 15, 2019 Sunshine today for a Convertible with a fresh MOT and service. I have owned my MX5 for a little over 6 years and done just over 4,000 miles in that time. The report from the garage who serviced it, is it has surface rust underneath particularly on the suspension components but nothing horrid. 1st time MOT pass with no advisories. Nothing to do now except enjoy it! Mrs6C, Exiled_Tat_Gatherer, brownnova and 13 others 16
Six-cylinder Posted April 16, 2019 Author Posted April 16, 2019 I renewed my classic car insurance yesterday and got myself confused with the number plates. I had never noticed that I had two car with the same 3 digit number in the plate and even the same letters in a different order, this in spite of having had the Visa Special for 3 1/2 years and the 2CV 4 years! Six-cylinder Posted April 16, 2019 Author Posted April 16, 2019 A friend popped round to show me his Elf! This was bought new by friends Granddad and has been of the road for many years, it has just returned to the road last week. New steering wheel is on the way. spike60, Sudsprint, NorfolkNWeigh and 13 others 16
richardmorris Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 When I was little ( in the 1970s) one of the old dears in the local area had an elf in the same colour. I always thought it very posh with two tone paint and leather. Six-cylinder and Sudsprint 2
Ben_O Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 looks very nice does that A friend of mine has tasked me with the job of selling his Hornet which is the same colour scheme as this. Not as pristine but still very good.

Marm Toastsmith Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I can smell that Elf from here. Mum had a Hornet when I was a boy. Same colour, automatic. Nice car. mercrocker 1
Bfg Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 .I'd love to find a pair of seats (that I could afford) with that patina. - superb !
Stinkwheel Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 Where's my visa going ?post-4787-0-17102100-1554553082.jpg To me (at long last now I've actually got my finger out) It is now in my dry and secure workshop and will be reunited with its engine at the end of this month when I have a week off work. Now all I have to do is sort the Nova, despite having some proof of the fact that Hairnet did all the required, HMRC are telling me its never been declared on nova (no matter how many times I read out the VIN number over the phone) so I was told to fill it all out again and go from there, that was 10 days ago, no word back yet. I may have to risk trying to call them again. chaseracer, RayMK, Mrs6C and 1 other 4
anonymous user Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 Perhaps the DVLA did not understand Hairnet's declaration and have somehow recorded it as Yellow Fever on board, so cancel my visa. Mrs6C, Stinkwheel, SiC and 1 other 4

GoGently Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 Did this Visa have a working engine ? Nice to see it on the move
Six-cylinder Posted April 18, 2019 Author Posted April 18, 2019 Did this Visa have a working engine ? Nice to see it on the move The blue LHD Visa broken engine was taken away for repair some time ago by Stinkwheel and is now ready to be reunited with the car, which he now also has collected. Stinkwheel Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 Update to the Visa NOVA saga.......
