Heres one from when I picked it up. The guy had DIY-repaired the Ferrari 360 Modena in the background after it was written off in a front end smash!

This is excellent work. I noticed this in the Ebay thread and saw that Alf Bollox was circling. I knew deep down he would do what had to be done...This is sterling work :-D :-D 8) 8)

It's good to see the first thing you did was lob the wheel trims over a hedge.

I guess the pony got him well used to the high octane world if performance vehicles.

This mutha flippa is parked out the front of my gaff now!!!! THE PONY HAS LANDED!

I am a lodger where I live, so nuff respeck to my landlady who OK'd me dumping it in our yard till i can get some tyres sorted and whizz it away up the workshop. I suspect she might get a bit of a surprise when she clocks its full horror though

If anyone is wondering I offered £300 for this over the phone without seeing it, which was accepted after 24h deliberation!!! Then the lad charged another 50 notes to bring it to my house.

Might have overpaid, as it is ROUGH. But then again what is the right price for a Mk1 Pony? I am chuffed to own it still.

If it makes you happy then it's worth it.

It can't be worse than SambaS Alpine can it?

Posted

I would say its competitive with that car in terms of overall shiteness actually.

Posted

I don't think 350 quid is too bad given it's rarity and the fact you had a massive lob on for one.

Posted

I do like it's shape, those sweeping rear quarters are very Marina Coupeish, stylish.

It does look like a lot of work though, what's going to happen to the Masarati now?

Posted

The only fail here is that thanks to Skattrd, I've got Sheryl flippin' Crow songs going round in my head.

£350 delivered doesn't seem bad, I'd be fuming if I paid that for a Vectra and it turned up in that state but it's a ruddy Pony Coupe. Not like you'd just stumble across another one next week.

Posted

Well I just have to carry on with the Maser, its not in any state to go out into the weather ATM (loads of bare metal) so I just have to crack on with it until its in a state where it can go outside for a while!!! I only have one 'permanent' indoor spot for fixing up these shite heaps.

Brilliant stuff Bollox!

£350 buys and delivers to you your 'dream' motor, and you query if you overpaid... where else but Autoshite?!

It looks proper like a Marina coupe doesnt it. The proportions are identical with the heavy arse end and the strangely short front doors.

I think the 4-dr Mk1 Pony looks better TBH but thats like saying Rachel Riley is better looking than Kristen Scott Thomas, whats the flipping point in worrying about that?

Posted

Actually the doors are alright, not as wonky as the Marina efforts.

Might have overpaid

I don't think so. I reckon, if you wanted the car (and clearly you do) that's pretty much the minimum you could have offered to ensure you got it. Too little and it would've stayed on ebay, gone past that amount then the new owner would be trying to flip it at double the price and it would disappear into the never ending whirlpool of sellers chasing profits and sales falling through while it rots away. Instead, you'll be fixing it up and using it.

The A frame is ready for action when you are, Boll.

Didn't Jon Cedric have a Pony at one point too? I'm sure it had 7k on the clock and all the door handles broke off.

Ahmen to that. The rarity aspect makes it 300 quid well spent I reckon, even if it does need a shocking amount of welding doing.

What is the interior like? Like most rare stuff I'd imagine finding missing or knackered trim bits could be a challenge.

Posted

Interior is pretty nice if slightly foosty. Got an ace HYUNDAI blanking plate instead of a radio. And I have the V5 that says no previous keepers!!!

I remember that about JonCedrics Pony, think he found some Ford door handles that did the job in the end

+2. I'd imagine the chances of finding another one are pretty minimal too, so for a few nights on the piss you've had something decent* instead.

Posted

Well thats kind of how i justified it to myself. I made an agreement with myself to pay more than I usually like to pay for knackered old shit heaps, on the basis that I might never get another chance on one of these. £350 is a sum I can just about stomach in such a circumstance. And I have wanted one for years and years.

It doesn't sound overly expensive to me and buying blind is always fun :-D its like a lucky dip sometimes you win.

I would much rather weld this up than that the bloody transhit I am half way through.

what's your time scale or is it being shelved until your finished your other projects ?

And you'll only need to find half as many.
