This photo was shared elsewhere on the forum by @junkyarddog and I was intrigued to find out more. It turns out that it's an Austin A90 Atlantic estate - a one off build based on an Atlantic convertible. 

I wonder where the photo was taken and what became of the car? 

@Angrydicky Have you ever seen the photos before?  As an aside, do you still own your 1952 Atlantic? I hadn't seen it before but a search on Atlantics also showed your old thread. What an amazing car.

Great work! That  makes sense now as the article mentions the conversion was done for a 'Frensham estate manager'. I guess the conversion was done locally too as Abbotts were listed as being located in Farnham in Wrecclesham Road, 4 miles away.

That picture is from 1925 according to the Frances Frith site. The trellis work must have been removed shortly after the picture of teh Atlantic was taken as there are further shots of the hotel from 1955 and the trellis has been removed.

Yes. Seen them shared on the Counties group on Fb. 
My Atlantic is long gone, sold over 10 years ago to the Automobile mag who then sold it on again to someone in London. Unfortunately, it seems to have disappeared as I’ve never seen any pictures pop up of it anywhere at shows or parked on the street.

The Atlantic is a nice car but over the last few years they’ve really started becoming a lot more ‘aspirational’ with the kind of people who would never touch any Austin with a barge pole normally, buying them and lavishing expensive restorations on them. Lots have been imported from Oz etc. They’re becoming mainstream and I don’t like that.

The Hampshire on the other hand, is effectively the same car but a stodgy four door saloon variant with a smaller engine and single carb etc. Much rarer and more unusual, I suppose it’s like a cross between a Devon and an Atlantic. I personally prefer them.
From memory, Austin made circa 7900 Atlantics and 35000 Hampshires. But, while the Atlantic was seen as a bit special back in the 1960s, and people hung onto them, the Hampshires, with their dated, stodgy styling and poor fuel economy, ended up consigned to the crusher.

The counties club managed ten Atlantics and only one Hampshire at their national rally last year, that probably shows you how the survival rates compare.

Wouldn’t kick another Atlantic out of bed, but it would have to be a convertible, and I won’t pay the prices asked nowadays.

What a waste of some probably quite clever/advanced engineering. If they had done it on something pretty like a TR4, it might have got somewhere…
