The Leopard, 700 of these were built in Rhodesia in the 1970s.  Designed to allow the occupants to survive driving over a land mine!

Reminds me of the armoured cars used by those evil apartheid buggers in South Africa when clearing the townships. I'm sure those of a certain age will remember the Casspir and Buffel.

Holy ducking shit!

Not only them two, Wikipedia tells me of there other 'advantures', including using the late 2000's Holden Caprice , which you have to read to believe how much that re-styleing job apparently cost.

But my personal favorite is...

I'm more interested in this part about the Bitter SC.

Along with the introduction of the convertible in 1981, a four-wheel-drive version of the coupé was also added.[2] The four-wheel-drive system was developed by Ferguson Research who also offered it for installation into the Opel Senator/Vauxhall Royale.[3]

One of the cars is preserved at the RAF Museum at Cosford.

And it looks like we've been here before, a long time ago!

I didn't know the Chrysler 300c got a facelift, why wasn't it available here ?

6.4 Hemi!

The facelifted one was available in the U.K., but only for a short period before they dropped the Chrysler brand - also see the short lived Delta.
Don’t know about the 6.4 Hemi though!

I can say from personal experience that the facelifted Chrysler 300 goes rather well even with the 3.8 V6. Corners surprisingly well too.

At least it felt like it somewhere outside Banff AB back in 2017. Nothing goes like a hire car.

How did they get around Ford owning the rights to the Mercury name?

This has been bugging me for a while, anyone know what my airport taxi was? I can't work it out from googling. No exterior badges but a Chevy one on the steering wheel, three rows of three bench seats (and I'm guessing running gear from some sort of Soviet truck)

There were only two SCs made with the Ferguson 4x4, both were three litre RHDs made in 1982. I don't think either have been taxed since about 1994, and in '99 they were both known to be almost beyond saving. I believe one (an ex-Patrick Collection car) may still just about exist.

The Marajo looks like one of those generic cars from an insurance advert.

It's like a Nova nose grafted on a Chevette.

Weird.

I don't know what market the Astra badged as Ipanema was sold in, but the name sounds like an unpleasant medical procedure.

It's Brazilian named after a beach fronting district of Rio and, more importantly, it's where the girl came from.

Factoid; 'The girl from Ipanema' is the lift musak at the end of the Blues Brothers.

And many, many other lifts and on crap radio on stations near you. (Ooh on the 7th!)

I think the director John Landis used it in a few films for scenes in a lift.

Airplane II: The Sequel uses similar verisons of Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head & McArthur Park.

The Family guy Star Wars spoof Blue Harvest has a muzak version of the Imperial March in a lift onboard the Death Star.
