Chrysler Cruiser....... thoughts please.

I actively look for shiteness in a car but I would rather get pushed naked down a sandpaper slide with my nuts tucked under my ass than drive one of these. I think for me the problem is mainly the image, all those chromed-up horrors and confederate flags, FUCK OFF!!!! I could not bear the association even if it existed only in my mind.

Because the friend who owned one found it broke down constantly - and she wasn't alone.

Who was with her each time? Her husband? It would have been helpful if he hsd some mechanical skills eh?

The sole reason I would not buy one of these purely on the basis that I would not want to be associated it the usual mouth breather that normally drives these.

Its only one step away from wearing a Jim'll Fix It badge and hanging out at hospitals in my book.

I've been reading this topic, thinking to myself "Come on guys ! Surely, they can't be THAT bad !"

A most dangerous thought, considering that last time I said that I ended up buying an Allegro...

I like the look of them when they are in good, bright colours. Not as much as I like the look of the Chrysler Crossfire however. At least they tried with the styling. Which is more than they did with their next models, the Dodge Caliber, that Jeep badged thing that looks like a skip and as for the mutant Lancias......

I don't suppose they are any worse to drive or sit in than other hatchback front drivers of a similar age.

The worst thing is that they look like they have a pushrod V8 engine and a live rear axle. And they don't.

Is weird how these cars evoke such hatred. I was amused when they put them into production, but it really does seem a case of quirky styling and everything is crap. Bit like the Nissan Figaro. A lot like the Nissan Figaro.

She had a neighbour who bought a petrol automatic Loser at the same time she bought her CRD - and its reliability record was appalling.

Hang on, I thought this was the place where cheap, crap cars that nobody loves can come and feel safe and warm?  What's got into (nearly) everyone?  I'm starting to feel sorry for PT Cruisers now.

Can't imagine myself actually buying one, mind.

Autoshite banned motors:

Vauxhalls

VAG

Chrysler

Iveco

If you'll add G-Wiz, Prius and Bentley GTs  to that list then I promise to pipe down about PT Cruisers.

I think it is partly the type of person who owns them but also the fact that they cost a fortune to keep on the road. I had only just moved when my sister bought one that was due a cam belt. I sent her to a mate of mine to get it done. He still hasn't forgiven me for that. Says he will never work on one again. I needed a battery for a voyager and guess what it is a special shaped battery over £300 from chrysler as you have to change the battery tray for a normal one. Finally just look at them !!!!! Fucking hideous !!!! at least Allegro's are slightly cute in a weird way (I had a 1750 sport many years ago)

crap cars that nobody loves.

For me, thats the issue. Some people do love these cars, its the kind of people that love the cars that put me right off it.

TBH, when they first came out I quite liked them. I don't think they are too gopping and seemed quite popular with the middle managment family man who wanted a family car but wasn't quite ready to but a Scenic or Picasso and wanted to pretend (erroneously) that he was still hip.

Sadly as they have become cheaper they have become the car of choice for line dancing, overweight 'biker gang' wannabies. They dress like bikers, they have fat tatooed peroxide wives like bikers and they have the same level of (non) education as bikers. The diference is that they are not bikers, they are overweight ex-factory workers who are off due to 'injury' who have never ridden a bike in their lives and they listen to Garth Brooks rather than Steppenwolf.

This is basically what they all are trying to look like:

Quite frankly they are welcome to them.

Okay, okay. Enough already otherwise nuns and kittens will die. They will!

I've seen a PT "Bruiser" at Santa Pod, 1200 bhp, 0-100 in 2.5 seconds. I quite liked that one!

Speaking as someone who once touched Garth Brooks, if I had to choose at gunpoint between one of these and a Vauxhall Zafira I'd choose the Zafira, bearing in mind I'd rather die than own a Zafira.

A mate has a silver 02 plater with chrome alloys. Looks nice but he has had some shit. 500 quid for a clutch to be fitted then the other night we was coming back through Chatsworth and it lost tail lights and dash lights. Changed fuse on it then it blew again. He said its got no power and is shite on fuel.

I like how our 'tell me about' threads always end up with the person asking buying something completely different to what they were asking about.  I know of no other place where advice on a PT Cruiser would result in the purchase of a Triumph 1500.

Plus the Triumph 1500 is a far superior vehicle.

I can't remember ever trying to look like Dog, or even Beth, but if you know my life better than I do you're welcome to post your evidence.

The sheer quantity of vitriol is drowning my sense of humour here.

It's not personal, Eddy. There's loads of erm 'uncomplimentary' remarks about all manner of cars on here (see VW and Vauxhall, for example) and stereotyping, but you have to wade past it really and try and ignore it. I'm absolutely certain none of the comments in this thread were levelled at you personally. It's just that PMT Losers are fucking horrible. And mostly (but not entirely) driven by stick-on-tat-jockeys.
