Below are photos taken of the car when purchased in August. The car is being used for a commute of 114 miles a day to work.

A close up shot of the OSF wing showing corrosion around the arch.

The following weekend in for wing replacement and repair to drivers door.

Quite surprising how crusty the wing was when seen off the car, actually quite surprised to find corrosion like this but the purchase price did reflect this.

On inspection this was found on the inner side of the wing, obviously accident damage from early in its life. The bodyshop that did the repair had not even painted the inner side.

Usual condition gearstick and gaiter.

Finally managed to source a set of mud flaps, used though.

Secondhand lower fog lamp valence found.

Fitted R line badge to front grill and tailgate where the SDI badge was. I added a stripe to the side with a Gt decal, this is from a Peugeot 205.

That's a lucky little car!

If the coin had landed other way up it would be slammed, stripped and pineappled by now.

A fine example of spending a grand and ending up with a car worth 500!

Nice work btw.

Will the shiny new tailpipes be spouting the sweet smell of veg for your fellow commuters?

I think I will keep burning the expensive diesel.

Nice job! Esepcially with what looks like 205 GT stripes!

Normally I'm not a fan of VAG stuff, but I really like that. I'd hapilly roll in that myself.

Good choice for a cheap commute I would imagine. Turned out pretty too.

I think quite a bit of rot you see on moderns can be attributed to poor accident repairs......

It is the same decals I used on my 205 Automatic which were reproductions of an original. £200 a year less to tax than any of my 205's.

Are you not keen on modern PSA stuff?

I owned a Skoda Fabia 1.9 SDI til recently, dull as fuck but an acceptable commuter car, 60+mpg easily. These Lupos are a bit more interesting, they remind me of the 2 door 104 for some reason.

Nice work. It looks like a combo of tasteful mods and stuff that'll make it nicer to live with.

Are the 1.9?

Having seen this car in the flesh I can confirm it's a really nice little car!

Very nice. Reminds me of my younger days with my 1.1 popular Fiesta, scouring the scrappies for a higher spec car and "upgrading" it.

Cant be arsed these days, but Im an older fart now.

That's lovely. Never seen anyone polish their exhaust before; perhaps I've led a sheltered life.

I'm running round in my sister-in-law's 52 plate 1.4l pez Lupo at the minute. I must admit I like it a lot, I'd forgotten what fun can be had chucking a short-wheelbased fwd car around. Goes alright with about 75bhp I think.

No rot on the wings of hers, although it looks like someone's been touching up the door bottoms with black Hammerite or summert (not looked closely) so maybe that's a weak spot for rust. Does your high level brake light work? Mine's been left inop as several attempts by garages to repair it have apparently failed in short order.

The Lupo was always pick of the modern VWs and reminds me of the original Polo. How they replaced it with the ghastly Fox I do not know.

Good work!

Presumably you mean 114 miles a day to and from work?

This is a 1.7 SDi, right?  So £30 road tax.  Mega mpg.  Simple mechanicals (no turbo to blow). But lightweight, so probably not under-powered like other SDi's. Only a 2003 so years of life left in it. Negligible depreciation. Comfortable interior that will last years.  Looks good. This is a really well thought out plan. Well done.

Even I'm forced to admit that looks tidy - but I think I'm more impressed with your workmanship than the car.

Still, it should see you right for a wee while.

Good work!

I think the Lupo never sold in big enough numbers considering the investment and design that went into it, the Fox was a nasty Brazilian or Mexican thing that sold in big numbers in South America,so for VW Europe - barely any investment to fill a gap in the model range.

Thankfully the Up! seems to have some thought put into it again, although it is a considerably cheaper design than the Lupo, Aygo style with the window rear hatch etc.

I replaced my raggy gear gaiter with a CV boot - on here somewhere.

My s/s tail is central exit (they are all like that, Sir) and is not shiney.. sort of 'unloved pewter' finish ;)

i don't trust newer PSA group HDI engines. Never thought about the Lupo looking like the Z 104's but you are right they do

have a similar profile at the rear.

So far no problems with the high level brake lamp.

I really like the GT stripe and the red stripe on the grille, nicely done mate. I need a Volkswagen again.

Unfortunately I did not like the body roll in corners and they say French cars lean! I decided to do something I have never

fitted to any car I have owned before.I must remember to wear my baseball cap back to front while driving this car.

Surprisingly around £80 cheaper from Germany including the postage.

A few photos with the 30mm lowering springs fitted.
