A stitch in inadequate car security saves nine,,err thefts

Sorry in advance abit of a pointless thread although it may serve as another miserable reminder

On this very friday just gone my trusty metro 5 door was taken from my parents street and taken on a joyride around the estate before being dumped and burnt out, this was certainly annoying as 3 years prior i had a nearly mint skoda estelle go the same way and at the time never wanted to see this kind of sheer audacity and waste etc again but in the intervening years standards of security have dropped and complacency taken place,,ie just locked doors etc

The moral of the story is that old cars that arent £1k plus are a primarily targeted by youth who just want to have a laugh, gain alpha male points and create a sort of do what we want f**k everyone untouchable facade so its always worth any kind of basic security virtually anywhere anytime

i went on a search to see if i could discover it before the police and sure enough of the places that are within easy running distance to the estate and out of the way enough to have a window of ragging it about i spotted it on a sort of nature reserve/playing field a mile away from where it was taken

They did a fooking mint job of ensuring that nothing remained as literally even the carb and inlet manifold was a pool of dirty alloy on the grass

as is typical there is no cctv in the area, no one knows anything about anything, no evidence was salvagable (hence i pre emptively called a skip hire company to take it rather than wait for a recovery and storage bill prior to a pointless insurance claim to cover the costs and pay out effectively nothing so all i now have is a pile of upgrade parts which thankfully didnt make it onto the car

i think i might just buy another metro !

If there's any Karma then these scrotes will eventually loose control of a car and hopefully kill themselves then the local papers will be full of story's about how they were loveable rogues or aspiring footballers.

Back in the early 90s when you couldn't own a hot hatch without it getting nicked my father was lucky enough to catch someone in the act trying to steal my XR3 but a piece of 4x2 timber and a big German shepherd put pay to that.

It worked better than any probation officer as my car never got touched again.

I know it's old school but I always found the best method if it's an old motor with a distributor is remove the rotor arm if you can't afford an immobiliser.

Scum.

I have always taken comfort that no-one would want to pinch any of my cars, but if they just want a joy-ride they'll take anything. Sorry for your loss- hope the insurance pays out appropriately,

I know how that hurts and the insurance makes little difference to the hurt but may just opens a big can of worms.

Laugh?...when they tried to take my Seat Ibiza.....which they had loaded with swag from broken in garages..at Christmas...they didn't notice...I'd taken the gearbox out to change the clutch...didn't get very far.

This is the reason i splashed out £80, (in Halfrauds) for a massive steering wheel lock, when i was using the Lada as my daily.
Always felt at unease leaving it anywhere too.

Ive left the insurance out of it simply because the payout would be less than the excess by £50.

In previous times we were notified of the discovery of our last burnt out car 2 weeks after when a letter arrived requesting £640 for recovery and storage which turned out to be a legitimate line of business working for the police/council clearing stolen cars and charging the owners due to them being responsible for the clear up

Very much Dailymail esque it could be said but after the insurance picked up that cost we didn't get a payout because the excess overreached their 'valuation' as we couldn't prove that the Estelle was a maintained and decent condition car with value rather than a shitter due to its burntoutness which ultimately means my parents insurance is still double what I pay 3 years on!

Lots of swear words. Don't think I will ever understand what goes in some some scum twats head to steal someones car then burn it out. I'm all up for attaching a battery to the bodywork :-)

Part of me wants to say, its a K series Metrover, so no sad loss.

Its only a very small part of me however. The overwhelming part of me wants to say "I hope their bollocks fester and never drop off and their willy turns to rubber" as it infuriates me the disregard for other peoples property.

Amazing how you cannot park illegally without it being caught on camera, yet some little twat can do this and walk.   And then you get robbed again by the insurers.   Sometimes it seems everything is stacked against normal people....

A holes indeed. Hopefully they got tettanus from breaking in and will slowly die.

I think if you have a breakdown recovery contract in place for one of your shitters you can refuse to pay if someone else recovers it and tries to charge you. Ive seen loads of lorries about with stickers on to that effect.

BASTDARDS

I really understand your frustration and anger (if that's how you feel) One of my cars, an E-reg 825 Sterling was targeted here, the door was bent back when suddenly the horribly loud alarm sounded alerting me. As soon as I knew, I went outside to shut the alarm off when a neighbour came running down and claimed to have seen someone running from the car.

I called the cops and they were there within minutes (which surprised me) and the next day a copper came down to inspect the damage and give some advice. He said that although my car had an alarm, some opportunist thieves might see my car as "fair game" so a visual deterrent would be a good idea. That day I purchased a big Yellow steering lock and I had no more problems.

I'd say a visual deterrent such as a steering lock is a good investment, particularly if your car is stored outside on road or driveway or within sight of a public way.

Whilst car thefts have gone down due to newer cars being harder to steal, sadly cars like ours are still "fair game" for wanker teens who wanna have a laugh at the expense of your property. Certainly if you live in an area like mine, people have no respect for others property, whether that be by stealing or simply bashing/scraping your car whilst the carry out whatever it is they are doing. I personally feel that that respect has gone, I'm kind of glad that my Coupe isn't great as these arsehole kids still play football right next to my car probably using it as a fence to stop thier ball going in the road, plus, I kmkw thier parents know, but they don't give a toss or even find it funny.

Pop on your local Gumtree and get a Disklok ready for the next one.  :-)

There's one on the Sheffield site for £8.00... one from 9 days ago was a fiver...  even at £30 or £40 they are worth it.

How could they burn that cute little Metro?

People who do these things would rape your dog if they had the chance.

These aspiring rappers and vicars will get what's coming to them - eventually.

Fuckers, hopefully they get caught out eventually. There is no way they haven't done it before or that they won't do it again.  There is only two cures for the 'Oh, theres no CCTV around here' issue; either take it with the council and get some friends/neighbours to help campaign with you or install your own system facing your cars outside.  The only thing stopping me having an array of cameras and infrared floodlights on my house is the granite construction, I wouldn't know how to mount anything.

Shame for the wee Metro. I always like to think justice will be served to these no-hope fucktards with a life full of shit, hate, pain and and an early death.

Posted

Fucking bastards, it really pees me off that these Jeremy kyle contestants take pride in stealing someones motor and destroying it, i really hope you can catch the little scrotes and dish out some just desserts

Posted

That's sickening. Of course, the thieves will never have any kind of decent, meaningful life and when they die, few people will care.

Sad, very sad.

I guess I'm liable for this type of stuff too, as I've numerous old motors scattered around the local environs. Some might not move for several weeks.

I always (now) disconnect the battery, and tuck the relevant lead out of sight. I tend to leave the passenger door unlocked too, since I'd prefer that to a smashed lock or broken window.

I've had my fair share of 'attempts', most recently my Renault 21 t had its remote stereo control ripped off the column last week whilst my local 'experts' grappled unsuccessfully with the ignition, but nothing has moved.

Seems that, if it doesn't quickly start, their bottle goes. If they can't get ignition lights, they bottle out.

So, no need for rotor arm hassle, in my experience. Just disconnect the batt,

Corse, that knackers the stereo presets, but hey, small price to pay!,

Disklocks are very good, impossible to remove and a big yellow fuck off to these arseholes.

Can't we scrap these oxygen theives, break them for parts for the NHS and cube the rest?

Proper immobilisers or at least cut-out switches are a start, then a big-ass steering wheel lock such as Stop-lok etc, the ones that actually get tested properly, is the way to go. The scum-sucking, brain-dead loser vermin will move on to another car if they see these.

On a different note, can I please urge caution in the attitude of 'My car is shite and no-one will bother nicking it'? Yes, you may have a point but there's a basic flaw in this logic.

First, Older stuff is easier for fuckwits to nick unlike newer stuff so always lock it down as your car may be the only choice they have.

Secondly, as a cop I used to live next door to told me, there's a lot of nondescript stuff gets nicked late at night/early hours and is found a few miles away (often not that damaged), reason? People who've drunk their taxi fare and need to get home, so they steal an 'easy' car and use it as a taxi then dump it round the corner from their place - this happens a good deal apparantly. An inconvenience you don't need.

Above all, don't let this vermin have your car, why should we? We've paid for it, fixed it, so fuck 'em, let the useless thick, fat wankers walk or take the bus.
