Sorry chaps no photos of hearty breakfasts and random bus stops in the middle of no where...

I have bought this 1989 Granada Scorpio 2.9i Auto from a guy a mile down the road, I wanted something cheap and comfy to bum about in and knowing this Granada was a mile down the road for sale I couldn't resist, especially as I managed to get classic insurance for £155 a year fully comp! (Thanks Micrashed)

It has electric everything and amazingly everything still works, electric seats front and rear, windows, mirrors, sunroof, c/locking etc also the old antenna phone is still in the car for extra shiteness...The car has just had the speedo sensor, rocker cover gaskets, battery and alternator replaced, it has MOT to Feb 2015 and 2 months tax left in the screen, I paid £450.

This photo flatters it somewhat but its not a bad looking old granny overall.

Interior is ok, a little tired but very comfy. Check out the dog and bone.

Doesn't appear to be using any oil or water, its starts, pulls and drives pretty well, auto box changes up and down with no fuss.

I will see how it goes but this will just be my weekend run around for the foreseeable.

Couple of my mates have had a bunch of these between them, 2.0 and 2.9.  They seem to wear quite well.  That one certainly looks like it has, well bought.

I've always had a bit of a thing for Granadas, especially these early Mk3 (or is it 4?) hatchbacks, but they mostly look a bit f*cked.  Apart from that one, you jammy git.  Well bought indeed!

Great money shot!

I love the colours and the carphone too. Very well bought.

Lets see some more pics, there ace motors. Has it got them seats with a pump that requires manual labour for lumbar support?

Unbeatable!

8)  Yes it does have those pumps attached to the front seats. Will get some more pics out soon as...

I am not much of a one for Fords, large or small, but even I could see myself knocking one out over this one.  Fine chodding, chap.

That is smashing. Back of the net, sir.

I always loved these... the late 80s were the days I'd pester poor salesmen for brochures, or hit the Earls Court motor show and come back with carrier bags full of them.

My mum, she had an Escort. 1.4LX flavour in Rosso Red. My uncle's company car was a Sapphire 1.8GL in Burgandy.

So I could cruise through the brochure, look at what options they didn't go for and silently curse them for not upping their game to maybe a Ghia, or something sporty. However, if you went all the way to the back of the book, just before fabric swatches and boring stuff about warranties, you got the Granada Scorpio. This was the top of the range, no blanking plates, every box ticked model.

I used to like the way the wheeltrims on the Escort were like the Scorpio alloys, but with more double-square holes. I didn't get out much as a child.

That looks great. My Grandad had one in the late 80's remember many journeys with him. And only a mile away from you!!!

I've had a few 2.9's. Brilliant things. Well jealous!

Love, love, love that, nicely done!

+1 on for more pics please.

Nice old bus, I used to buy a lot of these from auctions to sell on about 20 years ago. The 2.0s always sold as cabs , the V6s invariably to a caravan owning lorry driver.

Posted

That looks awesome! I'll be sure to keep a look out for it if I'm Volvoing locally at the weekends :)

Nice one - the 2.9 is the one to have as it goes pretty well.

I had one 15 years ago but it had to go as even back then it was costing me £40 a week in fuel.

Remember the petrol shortage of 2000? The queues? I drove to the front and filled up with leaded as everbody else was waiting for unleaded.

Check the back of the sills - rot here is MOT failure as it is very close to the rear subframe. I have had to repair my M-I-L's - hers is 2.4 flavour - pretty rare now.

It appears to have had new sills at some point Bren, not sure how along ago though :?

I love these. Couldnt put up with that V6 myself though. My ideal one would look identical to ths but have a scorpio 2.5TD engine.

It might be the angle of the piccie but is she sitting a little low at the back?

Excellent purchase, These Scorpios are lovely to drive, I can't see them being £450 for much longer.

When they were more common, they all seemed to sag at the back.

hmmm possibly, its parked on a slight slope and I dumped loads of crap in the boot earlier lol!!

Posted

That would explain it lol.

Bloody good car for the price!

They tend to sag at the back because there are usually a couple of dead hookers in the boot.  It's easy to miss these when buying, but it's a known fault.

my bro-in-law had the 2.5 td (indenor) it was not unheard of to thump the towbar on the floor with all his shit tools in the boot lol

My dad had one just like the one shown below and used it as a truck, lugging vast amounts of tools and paint and shiz.  Ace car, he should never have sold it.
