"Here we have..."

...the ex-Wobbler Merc W124 300E, as seen in CCW on occasion.

1990 G-plate, 180K; MOT Feb 2015, currently on SORN (garaged).

Indestructible 4-speed auto, recently serviced by the bloke who built Red Victor 3.  Four new Avons 6000 miles ago.  New driveshaft (OUCH!) a bit before that.  Straight-six runs well, needs new idle-control valve (obtained, not yet fitted).

Body good; front floor lightly tickled for MOT, slight bleb on rear arch.  Good cloth interior, very comfortable. Sunroof and driver's window currently u/s.  On steels at the mo (with RAIR silver-edge trimz!) but alloys as above available.

FOR SALE: £695 ono

How will you decide who won? Pick a Mercedes vin number then wait by the roadside for the next merc to go past?

Posted

Is this like one of those charity raffle prizes you hope you won't win?

Posted

This raffle is undoubtedly better value money than the Volvo. If you win it you 'should' have a pretty good car............however who is going to be drunk enough to bid on it on a Monday night? I am getting there but I have a problem and as such I am saving my £25 for another box of Heldenbrau Super before I start playing gabba techno at full volume at 1am and start shouting at people who aren't there, until the police turn up and I wake up in a cell again covered in vomit and self pity.

Or even worse I might have bought the winning ticket for this... ;-)

A Friday or Saturday night is defo the way forward for this kind of shizzle methinks.

Yeah, build the suspense and do it Friday/Saturday night. I'd buy a thingy.

3 pedals or 2. Can't remember

Posted

3, but possibly not in the way you might think.... ;)

I've been following this old Merc's progress on here since the early Dollywobbler days and it I wasn't such a lazy bastard when it comes to travelling to view a car or it wasn't so far away I'd probably have had a shot of it myself by now, it looks like a really nice old bus.

Posted

Having travelled in it for a few miles I can concur that it really is a sorted solid old tub and well worthy of being used properly. Too juicy for my linings but for those with the means, you won't get better.

Posted

I may well be drunk this weekend so this could be £25 well spent*

Posted

So what do we do then? Pick a model number and PayPal you £25?

What happens if you don't get enough offers, do you refund the money back?

Posted

I would be up for a punt on this at £25. Facts man, give me facts!

I suspect this is suffering from following on too soon after the Volvo. It was a great idea, but not necessarily one that stands up to a decent sequel. You may have to wait a bit and try again. Personally, I find £25 too much to risk. But then I'm not a fan of gambling really.

I agree DW it needs a "teaser trailer" for the viewing public and then build it up. Having said that, I was thinking about it.

Posted

I would also chuck a bid in but having read Vulgalors tombola thread............. I have to make a decision.

Can you afford to hang on a bit? A bid would be forthcoming.

Posted

Bernie_Shitpipe played a blinder coming up with this idea, having one every week is never gonna work though, there's just not enough of us on here to sustain 'em all

Posted

It remains for sale at £695 or nearest amusingly insulting offer.

Can't help feeling the raffle format won't work too often. You need a unique edge.... How about renting out a large quarry, filling it with props and running a Takeshi's Castle style endurance test where the winner gets a Merc? I'd pay £25 to enter that.

You've got to think of something different, as Pillock has alluded to. I might need to offload the BX in a week or two, already have a plan for that should it come to it.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone.

Would you turn it back in a FS thread please, Billy? Cheers.
