Toy commie cars at Poundland

There seemed to be at least one example of each this morning in Poundland St. James Centre, Edinburgh, (bin near the entrance, not with the rest of the toys and model cars); none of the other Edinburgh Poundlands I've looked in have them. Hope that's of interest/use to somebody.

Dave, there's been no sign of them in Leith, Meadowbank, Nicolson Street, or Musselburgh - I've been looking since the thread started and because my self-imposed exclusion from the city centre from the pre-Christmas torture to January sales period was lifted today, (to coincide with the publication of the new Argos catalogue, which I take as the first hint of Spring being around a few corners), this was my first visit to the St James Centre in ages. The bin is sort of centre aisle front at the start of the shelves; nobody else was showing any interest, though a woman did push her pram in to me, which I first took to mean she wanted to get them all, but she just apologised and moved on. Poundland in Hemel Hempstead today delivered the goods, still have them on the shelves because all inhabitants of Hemel have OMG town centre exclusion drunk and disorderly shoplifting innit ASBOs imposed.

Was in Poundland on Saturday, all they had were shitty cheap cars that are clearly knock off BMW's with Paramedic branding. Bumboils! It's a huge store too is my local Poundland, but they seem to be running it down slightly as they are going to be moving to another store soon to get away from Yipee It's 99p which is right next door, and 99p Stores who are directly over the road

Wandered up from work and bought these two at the St James branch in Edinburgh

 

 

They still have a decent selection although in my brief rummage I only found one other yellow Lada, and it had a broken light.

 

Bought the van thing just because it seemed to be one of the nicer models - anyone know what it is actually a model of though?

I don't think they have the CE stamp on them, is this a prerequisite for being sold in the EU or is it just desirable?

 

Manufacturers of anything can test something in-house and say "yes it's safe", but it kills or hurts someone, they get their arse hauled to court. 

If it's been compliance tested by an outside company, then kills or hurts someone, the company the tested it get sued.

 

So quite often, products tested in-house won't have a CE mark so it can be hard to know if they have been tested or not. They may have passed the Russian standard, but seeming as most Russians grow up eating concrete and trying not to get tortured, I'd take their safety standards with a pinch of salt.

The definition of a scale model - as opposed to a toy - is that the scale they are made to is clearly stated.

Collecting scale models is legally considered to be motivated by the same appreciation of form and function as is collecting art or artifacts,

for which also no standards whatsoever exist.

As scary as this may sound, but I'm afraid you are actually responsible for your deeds in this case, folks.

Here in Czech they're still KC69 (£2.20). Still a reasonable price I recon though.

It was last knockings in the shop for them, but I was happy today to pick up the Volga ambulance.

I found these in Livingston Poundland today and may have decimated the stock slightly... I now have 19 of them. How many different ones are out there?

Whoever's on the till at Poundland takes great pains to tell me that these are "collectors' models" rather than "toys"... every time!  Surely they know my face by now and associate it with these purchases?  I mean, this is pretty much all I ever buy in there!  And I'm usually wearing a hi-viz vest, so I'm not exactly inconspicuous...
