Poundland in Hemel Hempstead today delivered the goods, still have them on the shelves because all inhabitants of Hemel have OMG town centre exclusion drunk and disorderly shoplifting innit ASBOs imposed.

Here is the Volga ambulance.

Probably my favourite of all of them. I didn't notice it before so it must've been buried in the pile in the shop.

 

 

So my haul looks like this

 

 

The yellow police van was the only undamged one in the shop so naturally I knocked it off the table when I got it home and some of the lights broke off. Hopefully repairable when I finally open them up.

The red fire van has lots of bits missing but it was the only one so I went for it anyway.

The Crewe branch allegedly had tons of the little sods. although you appear to have different ones to me. I have a few left that I want to sell. I'll be listing them in my OMGBROCHUREANDMODELATHON thread in a bit. 
 

 

The 2nd Volga taxi is reserved for retrogeezer, I'm afraid. 

The Crewe branch had taken to hiding their stock. I'll ask the Altrincham branch if that's their game too and probably end up spending another £2 buying film.

I asked 2 staff members today and they both said all the stock was out but there was only a handful of cars on the shelf.

I get that they were from unsold copies of a partwork magazine but there seems to be a hell of a lot of them. Maybe they just grossly overestimated how popular the series would be.

The green Lada is a 1500 and the Police one is a 1200.

Like you I didn't realise there were 2 versions - the 1500 was a slightly different body style, more similar to the FSO 125p.

I'll do some digging to get the exact story but I suspect it is as follows .....

 

When they were first offered to the trade the quality was in general very poor. You could expect that around 75% would be faulty in some way. I saw boxes and boxes and boxes of faulty ones so I suspect the uk supplier kicked them back to wherever they came from. They in turn sold them cheap just to get rid hence poundland got them.

 

The quantity isn't unusual though. With a lot of the part work stuff it's not at all unusual for there to be well into six figure quantities available. Have a search for 'Joe Bar Team' - in that series there were over 100,000of some of them available when we were first offered them but most are sold out now. The part work stuff is a bit odd like that, sometimes we can get thousands of one item and sometimes only a dozen of another from the same series come into the country.

I guess the Czech distributors rejected them too. I buy mine in one of those cheap shops that sell mainly redundant stocks of books and assorted other tat.

I should mention that I bought the green Lada here in Czech. I haven't seen anyone in the UK get hold of one yet.

I was going to ask if anyone had got one over here,as I haven't seen one,or the 2 RAF vans at Poundland.I've seen all 3 at a toyfair,but being skint wanted to get them from Poundland.

I got two each of the green Lada, Volga ambulance and the red RAF fire van.  I keep an eye on Barrow Poundland in the hope of some more of the green Ladas, and anything else that hasn't appeared here yet.  I'd really love a Chaika!
