bangers and mash - introducing me

Hello!

When I first came across a link to this forum I became an instant fan. I was truly gawd thankingly grateful I'd found out that it wasn't a rare abnormality of mine, other folks also like this stuff :)

So, what makes me realise this, perhaps a quick run down of the vehicles I've owned - some not so shite, but some pretty well there.

First car, base model 1981 Mini City, shared wiv my mum cos I earned bugger all while I was at college. Now I think about it college also introduced me to auto-shite. I did my City & Guilds in Motor Vehicle Technology. In the workshops I was strangely drawn to a Triumph Herald chassis, said to have been given to the college after use for several years as a driveable demo chassis for shows. Loved working on the engine.

In the workshop there was also a Renault 12, a Maxi, a Granada, Mk2 Escort, Datsun - can't remember the model, Metro, and no doubt several other old unassuming motors now drooled over.

After this I had a Maxi - usual BL shite brown colour, then a lovely low mileage Triumph Acclaim. Sadly wheel arch rust was well advanced it failed the next MOT. Replaced by another Mini, but this time a 1960 Austin Seven in Farina Grey.

After this, 1956,66 and 67 Hillman Minxes in my bid to have an everyday classic. Then a 1968 Cambridge, sold on to fund a lovely restored 1963 Morris Oxford I used everyday for 7 yrs as a commuter car. At the time I also had a crusty Thames 300E van with sidevalve engine and 3 speed box. Bringing me crashing to earth was marriage then daughter, no money for a big fleet so ran a Mk3 Golf and bought a Model T Ford as a once in a lifetime opportunity came up. Reality of the costs of these dictated sale 2 yrs later! LoL.

Now I have a '88 Skoda 120L, an '87 Zastava Yugo 311 and an '02 Megane to runabout.

Looking forward to seeing more of other peoples shite ;)

Welcome.  Sounds like your'e already a certifiable shiter.  Well, certifiable at least.

What made you join so late?

A true Autoshiteist presumably?

Kept the desire to join under a plastic sheet in the garden until he/she could be arsed?

:-)

Welcome!

Funny, the Skoda is under a plastic sheet in front of the garage as it happens ;)

Thanks for the welcome folks. Minol as some weird fans of eastern european cars will know was the de rigeur oil brand if you owned a Wartburg or Trabant etc ;) and its summat I'm liking more and more!

I'll work out the pics, I hope!

Yeah, and less than a 1000 on the road now according to how many left! I'd love a low mileage Favorit estate ;)

SNAP!

IMP_Nomore.jpg

..... my 'C'reg 130LSE got 'whammed' up the backend, with me in it, and looked EXACTLY like that  :-(

Engine still running >> when the cassette cases stopped flying around, as the glove box burst open!!

Written Off.

As an Ex IMP Nutter, I love ReRWD

Had a black Rapid, with the 8 port head, and it was Cool at the Ton!!

Ahh!! takes me back.....

Ooh, 130LSE - top of the range ;) I had a half share in one, but took pity on my mate with the fact I wasn't able to spend anywhere near so much time on it as him, so donated my half back.

... I could bore for England on SKODA! but I won't  :-)

Throttle Cables...hmm, they snap >> really?

Mine frayed, to the point of breaking, just where it went into the outer sleeve by the carb. I got an IMP [pattern copy] inner... which was twice the thickness of original... and threaded it through from the pedal end and secured it, at the carb, with a brass electrical bullet. Good bodge - 100% bomb proof  ;)

Excellent -welcome.

Interested in your chod as it mirrors some of mine, a Yugo 313 & Favorit van. (My 313 is still snagging ,and being a real pain in the ass, and the Fav is laid up -awaiting a little tickle)

You're going to fit in splendidly here

Welcome!  Cracking history, you and AS were clearly made for each other!

welcome. some awesome shite there and much respect for running a T

Cheers Oman5. I loved the T, one car I would have another of. Mine was 1926 Canadian built. I used to use it to nip down to Morrisons for a bit of shopping if the weather wasn't too drastic, any excuse really LoL. I should have sheeted it over and just kept it in a garage, but storage would have probably made it worse, it went to a wedding car firm.

My Yugo is awaiting a gearbox swap, got a spare one, need time to do the job.

Thanks all :)

F*** me - TooSavvy has posted three times in this thread, and I understood all of them.  What's wrong with me? :?

Also - welcome Minolman.  Liking the Skoda and Yugo, and admire your bravery for running an 02-plate Renault as a daily - I tried to do that recently, and it ended quite badly.

Some first-rate shite there. Welcome and may your tyres never wear out.

Posted

You're scaring me with the Renault! Is there something I need to be aware of lol. Never bought one before.

Posted

If your Renault is petrol and manual, you might be OK.  If it's diesel or automatic, be afraid.  Be very afraid.

Posted

Well, half right, its petrol, but automatic, its 'only' done 112k.

Realised I had been completely remiss in not posting a pic of the Skoda 120LE that I got last year! It was on the drive most of the winter as the Megane carried on the struggle until I sold it in the spring. The Skoda has been in everyday use since :)

I think I was at a wedding last February with that car. I drove a red 120LE in convoy with a yellow one. EDIT - was that you driving it?
