Cart sprung Ford with boat anchor four pot and massive rally heritage= £30,000

Cart sprung American Ford with boat anchor V8 and equally massive racing heritage = £30,000.

House deposit = £30,000.

Fuck me, a tough one, that.

Posted

£30k for a house deposit... well the house I currently rent is valued at between £45-60k depending on the location of Jupiter and the phase of the moon (apparently), but then I do live in the North on an estate with a less than desirable reputation which parts of it deserve.

Still know if I had £30k I'd buy some awesome shoes, get the shitters painted, have a modest little wine buying spree and then get myself a lovely short little mortgage. I wouldn't blow it on an archaic Ford with a plastic nose, that's for sure.

Cannot believe Aston Martin put their name to THAT.

I am sure that it is an EU scam. as a manufacturer they need to have clean cars on the books or something like that. :?

I saw one pulling out of the AM stealers in Amersham and shouted to my boys "Ohhhhhh an Aston Martin" the salesman looked most put out as he sunk down in the drivers seat.

Aston don't sell enough cars to fall under the average emissions regulations, it's purely a marketing "brand expansion" thing. Which makes it even more tragic

Jeez. that Escort is just crazy money. I Just don't get how stuff like this is worth so much money. scene tax like those godawful old VW transporters?

Posted

I can understand why Escorts have the reputation they do, though. They're fantastic to drive.

But VW campers? No fucking idea. Perhaps some people need to spend a fortune pretending to be 1960s seppo hippies, and are oblivious to the irony of what they're doing?

Posted

I'm sorry but £30k is just ridiculous for a Mk2 Escort no matter what spec, mileage or condition. The prices have spiralled out of all proportion, they've become inaccessible to anyone who might like to try one. Ok so they hold their value but what would you do with it after you've shelled out that kind of money? Lock it away and look at it?

The other point is - are they actually THAT good that the prices need to be so high or is it just a false set of figures pumped up by nostalgia? I really like them but I'd have to think twice even at north of something like £6k.

How to make ebay megabuckz:

1. Buy, or fabricate from plywood or sheet metal, your own canteen box trailer (don't forget to NOT kit it out though).

2. Paint green.

3. Add white period stencils.

4. List for £12000.

I couldn't understand how silly the prices for campers were getting until I got involved in restoring one. You could easily spend 10 grand doing up a tired bay window if you had to get other people to do the work for you. Understandably there are plenty of people who would rather spend thier 10k on a freshly restored camper rather than a battered camper which they won't get to use for a year or more.

If a 'restored to mint' camper is worth 10k, then surely a low milage 'still mint from new' camper is worth a bit more than that?

In some ways it's heathy as it encourages you to restore something. Just a shame that rather a lot of our motoring heritage is not covered by the big scenes and is therefore at risk of slipping away through having no financial value. I bet I couldn't have bought the 72 1100 2 door for £640 if it had been a Ford rather than an Austin.

This is 4 grand - but if you want it with an MOT, then that'll be 9 grand...

If we finish the car for you, 6-10 weeks fitted between our other commitments. If you do it, will the

missus allow you 20 full weekends in the garage? This is a very easy finish, however, when you see the body,

you will not want to rush the rest

Yeah, ok then...

vw t25 porsche engine quick sale

£2,950

http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-moto ... e/98949936

the engine is original from vw, but this engine was made by porsche, and really sound like a porsche, run much better than a swis watch

No. No no no. no. no. No it wasn't. I suppose your mate just "put a Porsche engine in his beetle, they bolt straight in" too.

It's more or less the same pile of shit flat four that's in my van, only it's carbed so does even worse MPG. They sound more like a narrowboat than any Porsche I've ever heard especially since it's bound to be blowing from at least 3 points in the exhaust. And every one of them runs slightly shit in one way or another, because they are a crap design to start with and parts for them are insane money

Some more big Humber action, this recently recommissioned Mills-o-matic Hawk belongs to a friend of a friend who stored it in a council lockup for 30 odd years after one of the rad hoses blew and now expects to get the money he wasted in rent back.:lol: It's supposed to be a right wob fest too and the lower half was hand painted red until recently. He also came out with some story about how the "leather" front seat was worth £500 on it's own...:roll:

£300.00 start, no bids

That van is a couple of miles up the road from me. I saw it in the showroom while looking at another van in there. The first thing I did was put my hand under and behind the wheel arches and as I thought, full of filler, so how much more filler is there in that van. It's clean but definitely not worth that kind of money!
